i ate a fig newton 
then went to an antique store
but it was closed down every sunday 
just like all antique stores are
so i sat in the parking lot
and warmed up in the sun 
and i aired out my sweat-soaked shirt
and wasn’t seen by anyone 

i went on a hiking trail
though it really wasn’t much of a trail at all
because the path had been covered
up by leaves last fall
so i waded through the oranges, 
the yellows, and the reds
and for once in my entire life 
i felt more alive than dead 

last night i drank a glass of syrup
then another one, then another one 
till suddenly i couldn’t feel my face
the bug man came to kill the bugs
but i didn’t like his suit 
so i said he should probably just go away 

so last night i slept next to the bugs 
the cockroaches, the spiders, and the ants 
they finished off my syrup
and they finished off my sandwich 
but i guess i can’t complain about
my friends as black and buggy as they are
because at least now i have friends

it’s nosebleed season, and i’m bleeding out my nose. 
guess it goes like this every year, but i’m still caught off guard cus i still don’t know how to know when i can’t take anymore. 
i make the same mistakes every year, and i never learn.

"Elephant", a Tame Impala cover, as performed by Jordan B. Grubbs (me). This was recorded at my studio using only a Vanguard V13 and a Ribbon mic and 2 channels of Looptrotter SATurAMP 500 Series preamps on each instrument. The Bass guitar and electric guitars were DI'd through the preamp.
