The Egyptian Lover is a stone-cold legend. The LA producer and vocalist was one of the key creators of the electro sound in the early ‘80s, and his influence has been felt in the music of everyone from Dr. Dre and NWA to electronic producers like Jimmy Edgar. His contribution to this track elevates it to another level, adding a mystical, sensual tone to Aiwaska’s bold melodies. 

Tribal percussion laces the rolling beat as brooding bass swathes pass through the track’s undercurrent and the breathy vocal emerges. The first half of the track lets the vocal breath and the mood build, and it’s left to the breakdown to let the spine-tingling lead riff emerge in all its rasping glory. Old skool snare patterns give a nod to The Egyptian Lover’s heritage. There’s also an instrumental version for those scenarios when you just need to keep those heads down and focused. 

The Elektro Dub strips things down to a vocoder-infused, sparse arrangement where the mood is allowed to really infuse and percolate. The slow-burning vibe sucks you in, with heavy bass drops punctuating the head-bobbing beat, and the melodic elements sounding even bigger thanks to the space around them.

First one is Outline, produced along with Swiss knife SEVERAL DEFINITIONS. This dark groovy deep techno gem leads us to an epic breakdown with some trancy synths. Taken over by the legendary BOOKA SHADE, the track enters a new dimension, with the trademark bass line from the german duo and additional synths to make the original elements even more complex.

On the flip side, Pontias teams up with his buddy ALBANØ, with who he's used to hang out a lot in the studio. Ralax is a groove monster with some minimal techno elements. Remix for this one is courtesy of the one and only KIKO. Since 3 decades, the French stalwart has been at the forefront of the electronic French scene, while his latest releases on Afterlife and his perfect dosage between Indie-Disco & Melodic Techno raised him on the top of the underground hype.

When We Dip XYZ presents the ‘Swim In Memories' EP from producers Presia and Roo. Presia has released on respected imprints such as Isolate, microCastle & Moodmusic, crafting high-quality cuts under his very own ‘Grunge House' sub-genre. Roo stormed the scene recently with a collaboration on Samer Soltan's Sanctuary Music, which was remixed by Marcus Worgull. He's also brought some of the most interesting artists in the scene to his hometown of Amman, Jordan, under the Vudu and U Roof brands.

On the eponymous ‘Swim In Memories', subtle chords match the soothing vocals from Presia speaking of healing one's soul through calming the mind. The arp and horn-like pluck rise in intensity as they lead the way through the electronic ballad.

‘Cut' showcases a sharp jump in energy as ethereal vocal chops and the ‘Cut' ad-lib rest on a sharp snare and bulky kick. The table is set for Presia who delivers a spirited guitar solo straight from the hip.

‘Until It Breaks' conveys a melancholic feel as the breakbeat groove and saturated bass is complemented by the evolving pads, arps and textures.

On the final track, the post-rock induced ‘Guelai', a robotic voice narrates its poetry through the industrial textures, watery glitches and risers.

If truth be told, we’ve been pestering James’ Made By Pete’ Edwards to create his own EP for Selador ever since he first appeared on the label last summer on remix duties for Dee Montero’s ‘Fade Into Noir’, so naturally we’re pleased as punch to be charged with the guardianship of this fantastic release.

The burgeoning producer has been taking giant strides over the past few years with releases for such esteemed labels as Crosstown Rebels, Yoshitoshi, Radiant and Gruuv and with his newly built studio now fully operational, 2020 is shaping up to be his most prolific yet.

Here he delivers 3 tracks of equally high calibre, each providing a different twist on the Made By Pete sound. For the title track, the vocal talents of Simon Jinadu are enlisted, who turns in a spellbinding performance that succeeds in full-blown listener entrapment, such is its seductive charm. Sheer, timeless class all round.

Next, ‘Sierra’ brings a more present-day feel to proceedings with a glitchy melody and tight tribal rhythms flaunting its finger-on-the-pulse credentials. And finally, the Afro flavours come further to the fore in ‘Rhythm Fabric’, a carefully woven percussive tapestry that delivers in spades.
