Aiwaska's slamming collaboration with LA electro legend The Egyptian Lover ‘Imagination’ gets two hot and fittingly freaky remixes on Exploited from two big ballers.

Ed Banger Records legend Feadz steps up first, teasing us with snatches of the sultry vocal before unleashing one mother one a squiggly acid line and snappy, authentic electro breakbeat. Slipping by turns into a muted 4/4 rhythm, the track delights with phat snare rolls and endless acidic modulation, while the wide panning on the vocal makes it jump out the speakers. String stab chords add a tense undertone, and the acid line gets sprinkled with a distorted synth mirroring its every twist and turn. This will sound HUGE in the club.

Who else to take things up another notch but Detroit booty bass legend DJ Assault? He goes blow-to-blow with Egyptian Lover, adding his own filthy verses and doubling up on the chorus over one of his trademark stripped back bouncing electro beats. Hilarious vocal sound effects / ad libs add to the madness, and his salacious lyrics take the track into a new level of naughtiness. Topping it all off with a mellifluous G-funk style synth line at the end, he’s delivered as only he can.

Taking his cues from ‘80s new wave and synthpop, Mexican newcomer Levantine has a super-punchy electro sound that has been winning him fans like the legendary DJ Hell. He serves up three hot tracks for Exploited which clearly define what he’s all about.

‘Disco Relaxation’ is a bruiser from the off, with a rugged ascending bassline scale filtering into play on top of a propulsive beat. The push and pull between the percussion and the synth give the track a delightful wiggle, and the drama is built masterfully slowly through an array of bold melodic lines and vintage sounds to a powerful climax.

‘Nuevos Horizontes’ is a bit more of a melodic affair, hazy detuned chord washes punctuate that shoulder-popping bass arpeggio and ride cymbals adding a sense of urgency as the track builds. A tense breakdown ensues, after which the bass groove morphs through a series of different tonalities and pads and FX soar in the background along with a sprightly arp that provides the icing on the cake.

‘The New Wave’ rounds off the package with dramatic drum fills and hits meeting a mutli-layered bass groove that’s drenched in clever atmospheric touches. A haunting melody arrives halfway through to give the track a euphoric edge, but none of the toughness is foregone as a result — making this a track of bold contrasts.

Also making electro, psychedelic and stoner rock with his other project Red Eyes & Tears, Levantine is very much one to watch.

DGTL Records marks its fifth anniversary in style with brand new album ‘5YRS of DGTL Records’. The 14-track long player is released on April 16th as a 4x 12” vinyl set and drops digitally across 4 separate EP releases between February 18 and April 1, of which the fourth and final one features Trikk & Frank Wiedemann, Terr & Daniel Watts, Kino Todo & Danelz and Lucky Done gone.

5YRS of DGTL Records is a perfect reflection of not just of the label itself but also its global event patron: headliners sitting equally alongside local talent and up-and-coming acts. Over the past five years, DGTL Records has grown into its own as a fully-fledged musical arm of the overall DGTL musical experience.

Frank Wiedemann & Trikk join forces for their first ever collab, called ‘Ponto’, a perfect blend of their production styles. Thumping drums and a heavy bassline set a dark mood, balanced out with plucky synths and playful sounds. 
Terr and Daniel Watts follow suit with their track, ‘The Fall’. With an eerie vibe and progressive kicks, the track draws you in immediately. Glitchy sounds are sprayed throughout its layers, as Johann Heyss’ vocals come delayed adding to the mysticism of their track.
‘Monkey Neighbour’, produced by Kino Todo and Danelz, switches things around with an upbeat breakbeat drum pattern that evolves into disgustingly heavy kicks. A powerful track with wobbly acid synths rolled throughout its entirety, and monkey voices sprinkled between its layers. 
Lucky Done Gone provides a soothing finale to our compilation with ‘Signs of Wealth’. Driving percussion, lively synths and groovy bass lines cross each other's path in this track to produce a soundscape full of suspense and bliss.

Kino Todo & Danelz - Monkey Neighbour

Since she'd left the bright lights of the city it had become clear how much of the cosmos was being hidden from her. Pollution seemed to block out the beauty of it all, a thick fog that clung to the air for dear life masking all that lay above it. Out here everything came into focus; the moon and the planets glowed with an intensity she couldn't begin to describe. The map of the cosmos was clear and defined, now she could find her way amongst the stars.

Taking inspiration from Detroit's historic deep house scene, Italian born producer Ràkale - who heads up the label of the same name - makes his debut on Massimiliano Pagliara’s Funnuvojere Records. Like much of the previous outings on the label, Ràkale's Irregular Step concerns itself with cosmic sounds, taking us on a trip through stirring. emotive melodies. Flaunting his deftness at creating crystallised synth lines and buoyant grooves, the EP draws on elements of electro, Italo, Chicago house and synth wave.

Dominik Marz and brothers Radial Gaze team up for this four-track outing on TAU. Both acts have been steadily building their reputations on the underground, maintaining a high level of consistency and captivating dance floors across the planet. The trio have already worked together, dropping ‘Trans’ on Mexican label Duro in 2021. Now they’re back with a full EP, demonstrating the full force of their alliance.

The EP starts with ‘Baren’, where we find a low end percolating alongside crispy beats, with an array of percussive additions to increase the momentum. The bass pumps and vocal clips dip in and out of the background as the trio add more layers. It’s a heady combination of well pro- grammed beats with synth and bassline arrangement.

Then we have ‘Asper’, a dense punchy cut with a simple, hypnotic melody. This cut really benefits from its simplicity, an unfussy foundation which supports a colourful main riff.

Next is ‘Mistral’, a percussion-heavy composition that features an earworm melody, trundling drums, and a warped vocal. This one is a proper dance floor stomper.

Lastly, ‘E-Functions’ is a driving cut with a mysterious aura. The trio keep this one engaging throughout with plenty of progression around the core motifs. It’s ominous yet bouncy and playful, striking the balance perfectly and closing out the EP in style.
