Forever And A Day

Second release of the new Belarusian label Estetika is a deep italo house affair by a young local artist Sergei Zharkov. Four originals are supplemented by two remixes veering off into adjacent musical territories. Schmoltz provides the safari ride version to the mediterranean pastels of the "Parallel Connection" putting aside the classica italia tropes in favor of the almost esoteric landscape of tribal rhythms and psychedelic atmospheres, twists and turns.

Budakid is back on Exploited with a charming 2-tracker that exudes confidence and style. In 'Milestones' - which is the title track, he catched up with the highly talented vocalist 'Bad Actor' whose voice mesmerizes and hijacks your attention. Channeling early ‘80s ‘new pop’ (Simple Minds and the like) in a modern way with its vocal stylings, signature glitching sounds, soaring synths and realistic rolling bass. A sequenced melody descends and ascends in perfect harmony with the indie-ish low end and with some stadium-sized leads coursing through the veins of this expansive-sounding production, it’s like stepping into a time machine.

‘Graph The Jeff’ goes deeper and prettier with a sound that harks back to vintage electro/house flavours. Overflowing the stunning melody, it immediately stuns with its filtering, detuned 8-bit chord riffs fizzing away over thick, deep bass and spacious percussive rhythms. A dreamy melody coated in a gentle film of white noise rises from the depths in the breakdown, rhythmically in step with the chords but bringing a lighter counterpoint texturally. It’s a heavenly track that will leave you feeling more blissed out than a sunset gong-bath.

'Chromium Dioxide brought Leitstrahl’s sound to world. The three man group of Stoff, Paul Raal and Boogaloo Steve return alongside Alberto Melloni with Azimuth. Bordello A Parigi’s own Furór Exotica are drafted in to help with the Dee D. Jackson inspired “Automaton Lover”. Disco infused and bombastic, this powerful piece employs bold synthlines and breathy vocals to devastating effect. The title work follows. An addictive melody is cut by a crisp beat in this bright and inviting instrumental. Thick basslines and a mirrorball groove introduce “Spectral Fantasy”. Featuring the smoky lyrics of Vongold, a tale of unexpected encounters and possibilities unfurl amidst warbling analogue strings. Slung back basslines and a low throb are central in “Light Years”, a smooth longue affair to finish this diverse 12”.'

Urgent: Our agents recently tracked Safe Trip ringleader Young Marco to South Africa, where he was spotted handing out writable compact discs – “CD-Rs” – covered in handwritten text. This text read: “Past Fire – PF99 – Dance Forever”. Upon further investigation we discovered that this CD-R contained two audio recordings of local origin from the 1990s and 2000s rearranged (“re-edited” in street slang) by Young Marco.

The first rearranged recording is by a local recruit called Madlaks. Entitled “Jikovunu” and dated 2006, it is a bright and breezy affair marked out by bold piano riffs, bustling breakbeats and “acid-style” synthesizer bass. This version has become widely known as “We Dance Forever” in reference to its repeated vocal hook. The second audio missive dates back to 1992 and was originally produced by Hot Slot Machine. This new rework from our shadowy nemesis emphasizes a rolling and futuristic electronic bassline, a shuffling hip-house style rhythm track, classic house elements and a soulful vocal. We believe that its positive sound and message will prove popular amongst Safe Trip’s growing network of contacts.
