With the exuberant ‘Hot Inside’ EP still ringing clearly in the consciousness of revellers across the world, Berlin-resident Jimmy Edgar hands over the reigns of his newly-minted Ultramajic imprint for another vivacious outing to launch the ’Metaphysix’ series, a concept that was developed alongside long-time creative partner Pilar Zeta. 
 
As Edgar goes on to explain, “reality is based upon thought systems and this is the core of music and vibration, each chapter of the series we will give these ideas to the artists for them to interpret in any way they choose.” 
 
The inaugural edition finds two producers working around the theme of Mentalism, defined most simply as “The All is Mind, The Mind is All; the Universe is Mental”. The elusive Aden commences proceedings, with two claustrophobic cuts steeped in dub-techno sensibilities that have already garnered support from such established figureheads as Boys Noize and Scuba. 
 
On the flip, credits belong to Creepy Autograph, a rotating group of Detroit natives whose members were once all involved with the enigmatic Dopplereffekt project, as vocalists. Here, they’re on rambunctious form, providing two jacking cuts imbued with salacious intent and oozing chrome-plated cosmic funk. 
 
Featuring collaborative artwork with Pilar Zeta that explores Edgar’s interest in ancient magic and new domains of knowing, it equates to a truly immersive experience, and one that assures a fruitful future for this tantalising concept.

After the success of his debut album ‘Back In Flight School’ on Hot Creations, Miguel Campbell has spent the last three years living in Ibiza, dividing his time between touring and the studio. Since returning to his hometown of Leeds last year, his production output has been prolific, with a slew of original tracks and remixes coming through his own Outcross Records imprint, the same label that will release forthcoming second artist album, ‘Night Drive Without You’ on 11th December in both double pack vinyl and digital formats.

Referencing the style of some of his early work and featuring a variety of both vocal and instrumental cuts, the disco-tinged layers of all 15 tracks make a firm nod towards the French touch scene of the late 90s and early 2000s, but despite the retro influences, Miguel’s skill here lies in creating a body of work that sounds both fresh and futuristic. Rumbling basslines and glossy, electro synths combine perfectly on the future-facing ‘Melody of Love’, while on final track ’Light and Darkness’ he demonstrates a similar balance; incorporating computerised vocal, underpinned by heavy bass licks - the airy vocal countered by the weight of the low end.

Vocal tracks on the album feature the talents of both Benjamin Diamond, who appeared on Stardust’s ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ and frequent collaborator Beccs Lott, who joined Miguel on ‘Not That Kind of Girl’ and more recently on his ‘Free Falling’ EP. ‘Run With Me’ in particular showcases the synergy between the pair on a track full of verve and bounce, while on ‘Interfunk Music’, he joins forces with Diamond to cosmic, spaced-out effect, with Diamond's hazy, hollowed-out tones adding a new dimension to the record.

A natural extension of ‘Back In Flight School’, ‘Night Drive Without You’ is built to take listeners on an abstract, heartfelt journey through a mix of house, funk, jazz and disco - a fluid collection of styles that are now a hallmark of Miguel Campbell records. Bold and exciting, it’s an album ready to make its mark.

Miguel Campbell ft: Beccs Lott - The Night Life

Raised in Detroit, later shaped in Berlin and New York, Rioux's productions are what he describes as "labyrinthine"  – merging the digital with the natural in a surrealist pop form. Following on from a collaborative endeavour with an astrophysicist and a shape-shifting collage video, Rioux's first offering for 2016 comes in the form of "Prime Matter".

~4 minutes of Hallowe'en-esque house music, peppered throughout with echoing steel drums, a slowly blossoming bassline and haunting vocals. This enigmatic track builds on Rioux's notion of "a state of energy in its raw, potential form", and the pre-empted state of being on the cusp of a great transformation, and the "test" that it comes with.

"Prime Matter" drops via Human Pitch on February 5th.

Following on from previous full-length albums, ‘Love Lights Music And More’ and ‘More Music, Lights And Love’, Leeds-based duo MAM – aka Miguel Campbell and Matt Hughes - are back to present their third LP, ‘Garden Of Eternal Summers’. Scheduled for release on via Outcross Records on 4th March and comprised of 14 tracks, it’s an album born out of late night jam sessions with guitars and synthesisers.
 
Leading with dreamy, psychedelic synths is lush opener ‘Digital Emotion’ before second track ‘Memory Touch’ switches things up to tell a lighter, bouncier tale of it’s own.  ‘Street Boutique’ introduces a grittier bassline underneath a crescending old school synth melody, whilst ‘Love Shock’ eases the pressure with a retro guitar riff set against summery keyboard chords. ‘Future Mystery’ continues this sun-kissed theme, with soft, echoey keys complimenting a bass guitar riff, before a harder-hitting bassline and drums add an extra dimension to the breakdown midway through the track.
 
The final two tracks ‘Organic Voyage’ and ‘Double Chance’ act as the sunset on MAM’s summer garden of an album, with evocative saxophone samples and airy synths bringing the album to a hazy, relaxed end.

This outstanding three-track offering follows the Londoner’s acclaimed “Home” release on Exploited last year, and further releases on imprints such as Suara, FCOM, Gruuv, Intec, Alive Records, MadTech plus his very own 2 Swords Records which have helped his music garner support from the electronic music elite including; Laurent Garnier, Moxie, Carl Cox, Annie Mac, Justin Martin, MistaJam, Skream, T. Williams, Modeselektor, Disclosure and Tensnake.
 
As ever, the soul drenched warmth usually found in his productions sit across all three tracks here, as he continues to advance his signature sound that comprises Detroit Techno, US garage and D&B into a left of centre broken sound. Building on his recent “In Focus” on Intec, Copy Paste Soul delves deeper into his techno past with an EP offering up an EP with rave inspired low-end bass goodness.
