Italian master, London based Stefano Ritteri takes centre stage for the latest edition of Shir Khan presents Black Jukebox — number 32 in this illustrious series. This one is a chiefly electro-flavoured affair, joining the dots between the genre’s past, present and future across four slick tracks — with a dash of garage at the end.

‘Slow Tripping’ is a homage to the charismatic boogie sound of the early ‘80s, resplendent with beautiful melancholic melody and a wistful air. As the name suggests, the lazy beat perfectly compliments the array of dreamy sounds, and there’s a definite nod to French disco/electro/hip-hop fusions of days gone by.

‘Donna’ is a collab with Mytron (Bordello A Parigi, Multi Culti)which continues the chuggy theme, its gently swaying synth arpeggios and unhurried beat recalling some of Soulwax’s more pared back material. Its simple arrangement is kept engrossing with synth automation and subtle atmospheric touches.

‘Brutesque’ strips things back to an almost minimalist approach, where twanging, monotone sounds slowly morph over a taut backbeat and a variety of bleeps and blips. With its spoken word sounds and Krautrock-ish mixture of sounds, it recalls the work of Public Service Broadcasting.

‘Robot Love’ takes its cues from the sweeter side of 2-step garage, bubbled down to a more laconic pace. Cute melodic refrains and big reverbs adorn the stuttering rhythm to make for a colourful, atmospheric, reflective track.

Exploited Club welcome in power duo EMJIE and Emma B who bounce out 3 classy club cuts packed with groove, energy and panache.

Hailing from Brussels, EMJIE is catching heavy acclaim off the back of records for Get Physical and True Romance, as well as a recent B2B with Diplo, a radioshow for Keinemusik and bill-sharing with the likes of Dixon, LP Giobbi and Roman Fluegel. Her sound is characterised by stripped, Indie sonics, classic House and sleek, infectious vocals.

Working alongside her is Emma B - a Paris based producer and DJ also firmly on the ascent with releases on Shall Not Fade, BBC’s Sarah Story’s Stories and gigs at Rex Paris, Fabric London, Shelter Amsterdam, and After Caposile.
Highly skilled in the studio, her sound is steeped in dance floor literacy - informed by late 90s and early 2000s Minimal, Trance and Hard House.

'Ace Of Spades' kicks things off with a tight braid of organs and synths that duck and weave over immaculately crafted drums and a buoyant, proggy bass line that locks in a bubbly momentum from the get go. Vocals ring out, snare fills roll and harmonies fuse to form a fizzy, ecstatic vibe that nails a peak-flow tenor.

'My Favourite' follows up with neat, infectious drums that ooze snap and sass while a catchy synth and bass line climb together in lockstep. More vocals are woven in while harmonies thicken and a loose, free-flowing mood unfurls. Energy smoulders subtly shifting up the gears with a nice, mid-set intensity: chic, locked in and effortlessly sexy.

'The Bass You Need' finishes things off with an intricate, bongo-heavy drumtrack that's propelled by more swirling synths and spacious sound design. Deliciously trippy - the groove is heady and slinky recalling labels like Pagan and Swag from UK Tech House hay-day. Drums remain light on their feet - nimble and active whilst packing a satisfying wallop that'll make it an easy draw for DJs.'

Exploited Club welcome in esteemed duo Pig & Dan alongside production buddy Johan Mila. 

26 years in the game, Igor and Dan have covered a lot of ground in Dance music, amassing a venerable list of records, check points and performances as they've grown. Releases on Cocoon, True Soul, Drumcode and their own label ELEVATE, remixes for Basement Jaxx, playing alongside Carl Cox, spinning at Space standing out as jewels in a highly decorated crown.

Pig & Dan alongside Johan Mila ready some dance floor dynamite in the form of 'Living My Best Life' which kicks off with a neatly knitted drum track that sets the stage, punching and snapping in all the right places while a sunken bass line snakes in the sub region.

Filters open out, giving the bass a serrated edge as it charges up a brash, sassy mood alongside bold, zesty vocals before gears shift and the vibe absolutely rockets. Stabs, vocals and drums burst with alacrity across a vibrant, no-nonsense banger that gives an Italo soul a certain hi-def, Electro edge.

Johan Mila steps in with a viciously effective remix. He sets his drum machine pumping out a tight braid of snares, perc and busy hats while synths spread like butter across the groove.

A warped piano line courses into centre stage before ducking behind flexible sweeps and a ripe, nasty bass line. Teeth are bared in the break as things take a slightly sinister turn - low frequencies growling and gathering steam before letting loose in a wild, hedonic buzz.

Claus Casper makes one hell of a return to Exploited Club with a dynamo for the dance floor designed to take the lid clean off the party.

Claus Casper adds to an extensive catalogue with releases for Johannes Albert’s Frank Music and Tensnake’s True Romance to name a few.

Here, he returns with the crystal clear intent to give DJs something to draw for when the party is at its absolute zenith. A snappy, muscular break is rooted to the ground by a tough 4/4 kick. This forms the bone structure of a groove that gradually whips up a frenzy, stacking exultation in layers as it rolls. 

A slick, agile bass line keeps energy pulsing in the low end as the track shifts through chapters that are marked by openings for a hands-in-the-air piano line that as the title suggests, is nothing short of glorious. 

Clever sequencing keeps intensity up as elements are whipped out and slapped back in - somehow feeling more and more jubilant as they return right until the end of a full throttle jam that's got 'tune of the night' written all over it.

We Are Happy Here are Nhar and Jennifer Cardini. His remix of “Whispers” is deep, warm and sexy. Including Jennifer's vocals, dark beats and subtle percussions.
