Following on from his second long player, Romanian artist Mihai Popoviciu’s distinguished 2016 offering ‘Home’ is set to undergo a weighty four-part remix project, with remixes from Steve Bug, Kevin Yost, Sascha Dive, Tuccillo and more.

Mihai Popoviciu: 'The album’s called 'Home' because it is inspired by my experiences from my home city Sibiu in Romania. Home is also the place where the album was produced, in my stripped down studio. It is where I always return to rest and chill after touring the world and the place where I feel most safe and comfortable. The artwork shows an image of the airport lane in Sibiu with surrounding hills and mountains in the back. It is a metaphoric 'gate' to both leave and return home.'

With ‘Home’ gaining the attention and picking up support from the likes of Ryan Crosson, Luciano and Cesar Merveille, the Bondage-Music team now welcome to an array of talent to the label for 2017 as the LP is deconstructed and reworked across four brand new packages, with Part One dropping in early May.

Part One is opened by Poker Flat boss Steve Bug’s hazy interpretation of ‘Focus’, which floats effortlessly amongst precise drum work, subtle vocals and rich chords. 

Next Up, Pornbugs & Dilby serve up a classy rework of ‘Sunshine’ by utilizing the originals dubby atmospherics and laying the focus on a rolling, deep lying groove, before Peter Makto & Gregory S unveil their minimal yet emotive remix of ‘Data On Data’.

Serving as a digital bonus, UK talent James Dexter reworks Popoviciu’s stripped back ‘ACK’ through a combination of intricate organic percussion patterns, deep sub tones and elusive, wavering background nuances, punctuating an excellent package to kick start the series.

Set to feature on Parts Two, Three and Four are: Tuccillo, El Mundo, Sascha Dive, Kevin Yost, André Hommen, Kike Mayor, Toygun, Muui, Pablo Bolivar, Martin Aquino, Schlepp Geist & Krink and Sven Tasnadi.

After appearing on Get Physical with some excellent remixes of Ben Hoo recently, Pezzner is now back with two of his own fantastic originals. 

This acclaimed artist is a long standing talent who writes, composes and teaches electronic music to a consistently high standard. The American has credits on Visionquest and Freerange, amongst many others, and put out his Title Track LP on this label back in 2016, now he is back and as on form as ever. 

The atmospheric ‘Squares’ kicks things off in typically deep and smooth fashion, with warm pads and diffuse chords providing the backdrop as supple drums roll below. The gentle percussion persuades you to lose yourself in the groove and wordless but soulful vocal sounds add to the luxurious feel.

‘Wandering’ is the second superb track and is immediately more upbeat. The kicks set a driving tempo and for the next six minutes Pezzner shows off his studio skills with well crafted and unusual synth sounds darting about the mix. Frazzled basslines and metallic percussion also add meat to the bones and ensure this one will amp up any crowd and get them hooked before lifting them up with ethereal voices. 

Both these tracks are the sort of tasteful and timeless efforts Pezzner is so well known for.

Wandering

Maksim Dark returns to his spiritual home of Senso Sounds - Oliver Huntemann’s much touted imprint for his tougher, technoid leanings. Maksim, born in Serov, Russia, has created an indelible impression over the course of his young career, and 'Movement' is clearly the next step on his road to very great things. 'Attack Disco' is true to form - a lean, mean and tough to the bone piece of techno with a driving, powerful edge. Growling, snarling synths sound like shards of metal ripping through the groove producing an intense vibe. 'Coordinate' is a notch more reserved, but builds a killer, hypnotic groove through stripped back elements, before Maksim’s off-kilter sound design provides the trippy topping. The title track 'Movement' fits its name - the track bursts with energy and atmosphere, propelled by a thick, tactile rhythm and pitched down, demonic vocal by the man himself.

GHEIST return to Exploited after outings on Sasha’s acclaimed Last Night On Earth label and Mobilee Records with more melodic electronic mysticism. The quartet is well known for their dramatic compositions having made Exploited their home since first emerging in 2016.

'Closest Ever' begins with shuffling percussion as a looping synth refrain filters up and shimmies through rapid-fire panning effects. The dreamy indie-dance styled vocal cuts against this incessant melody beautifully, providing the evolving counterpart to its steadfastness. The hovering bass follows the vocal — or vice versa — until we reach a heady breakdown where the synths warp, warble and detune brilliantly to create a dizzying crescenedo. Instead of an explosive climax, everything gets sucked back down when the beat drops, leaving you forever wanting more from this powerful yet restrained beauty. 

'Avalonia' flits between deep hypnotic sections and teasing moments of intensity. Building slowly through unsettling synth and bass arpeggios and deft percussive touches, it truly comes alive once its chord progression unfolds. The undulating bass leads the way as soaring tones bring a triumphant feel, the mood of the track constantly shifting this way and that. It’s a subtle, brooding track that makes for an excellent stepping stone in a set, perfect for when you want to draw focus to a more introspective place.

It doesn’t get much bigger than this: Adam Beyer links up with Green Velvet and Drumcode’s outstanding rising star Layton Giordani for a debut collaboration.

Some musical partnerships feel fated. Both fans of one another’s work, for years Adam Beyer and Green Velvet had discussed writing music together. In turn, Beyer’s protégé Layton Giordani had admired the Chicagoan’s work for as long as he could remember. When the 25-year-old found himself playing alongside the green mohawked legend at Belfast’s Shine, the spark and subsequent friendship was immediate. With the links now set in place, it was only a matter of time before the trio’s creative chemistry would manifest musically.

‘Space Date’ was conceived organically and birthed quickly. Propelled by Green Velvet’s trademark vocal hypnotism, the triumvirate combine to craft a pumping intergalactic slice of techno laced in melody that’s highlighted sets by Beyer at Awakenings, Ushuaia and also EDC Vegas when Green Velvet dropped it to a raucous response. The track is complimented by ‘Rome Future’, the product of a year-long series of productions between Beyer and Giordani.
