What better way to follow up Andy Meecham's (Chicken Lips / Emperor Machine) huge Gino Fontaine originals than a duo of remixes from Balearic chieftains Pete Herbert and Stratus. As one half of Reverso 68 alongside Phil Mison, and in his own right Pete has been behind a ton of mesmerising sunrise and sunset workouts, and he's more than delivered here - crisp and club ready percussion, those stark punk-funkin' guitars and his trademark synth work all conspire to cook up a storm on the floor. Martin Jenkins and Mat Anthony's Stratus outfit (remember their superb "Spring Tide EP" on Aficionado last year?) take a pop at the sublime Konkondo on the flip, and what a masterpiece it is! A ten minute, utterly absorbing and expertly evolving piece, which flips the darker elements of the original into a mesmerising, cinematic, early 90's style Balearic epic.

Shir Khan and the illusive Exploited crew reveal the first compilation of the cultishly adored Black Jukebox series. It includes the sunniest grooves you’ve heard this year. ’Shir Khan Presents Black Jukebox Disco Jam 01’ is a soundsystem-ready disco-house jam which tickles the subwoofers beautifully and seems purpose built for eyes-wide-shut Summer terrace play in big outdoor spaces. Black Jukebox is traversing the wide spectrum of ‘dancefloor’ music.  There’s much to excite: All four tracks are built for rooftop parties with the deep V crew.
From slo-mo housed up boogie-soul, to a loft-party future classic, to a feel-good, sun-blushed, druggy, late night electric jam, to main room filtered disco house and subbass-bugged R&B…it’s all there.  It’s no wonder the Black Jukebox Vinyl series became buy-on-sight and quick to disappear. Launched in late 2011 by Shir Khan, Black Jukebox was mainly focussed on Vinyl Releases. 13 Releases later, this is the first compilation which sums up some of the best moments and features 3 tracks that were digitally never available before.

Hard working editor-turned-producer Rayko has decided to start 2016 in emphatic fashion, delving deep into his alternative 1980s influences to deliver a decidedly Balearic disco shuffler alongside fellow Spaniard Landerground. Built around Achtung Baby era U2 style guitar lines, dubbed-out electronics and hazy vocal samples, "Secret Patch" is arguably one of Rayko's strongest singles for some time. Longtime cohort and pal James "Rod" Rodriguez provides a pair of remixes. There's a chunkier, more obviously dancefloor-friendly "Club Mix", and a "Slow Cosmic Burning" remix, which makes greater use of the trippier elements of Rayko and Landerground's original, while adding some spacey new synth lines.

Inside My Love

Wolf + Lambs' San Fran trio Pillowtalk join the W+L Black edits crew, serving up tastefully housed-up reworks of soul gems. First up they get the scissors out on Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell's late 60s soul anthem "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing", turning it into an extended, chugging disco-soul bomb. Next up is Bobby Hebb's version of the classic "Sunny", this time with the simplest of house beats added, making this an essential for Marcy Hotel nights. Lastly the Festivals' super-slow soul smoocher "You've Got The Makings Of A Lover" gets seriously pepped-up, with BPMs pushed towards peak-time dancefloor action.
