'South African DJ and producer Mr Joe follows up his ‘Jax’ release on connected with another idiosyncratic three-track EP.
Mr Joe is Mbheki Ndlovu and was born and raised in a township in the Kwa-Zulu Natal province of South Africa. Music has been a part of his life since a young age, and as a producer, he has always infused his sounds with elements of his surroundings. Over the last decade, he has released on labels such as Watergate Records, Odd One Inn, and Kazukuta Records, with big names such as Black Coffee, Dixon and Culoe de Song all supporting.
The brilliant 'Beyond' opens up with a groove full of momentum. A vocoder string machine brings a militant atmosphere as ride cymbals shimmer, synth bells cascade, and handclaps spatter like automatic weapons to complete this fine mix of Afro and electro styles. The seductive 'Somuhle' has a bass and synth melody line reminiscent of rollerskating jams. Brash snare drums snap and chop as vocal samples bring a deep sense of joy amidst rolling pianos and tubular bells. Finally, 'Throne' pairs deep bass drums and a wah-wah clavinet style synth with male vocal chants which echo across the groove. Ever in motion and layered with shifting drones, you're led into a spine-tingling breakdown before the groove drops again.

Putting the YOU into unity: Re.You’s Younion returns for the first excursion of 2022 with longstanding friends Eins Tiefer. 
Mainstays on the collective stable since its inaugural 001 VA way back in 2016, the duo have played a role and had a presence on almost every Younion release so far. ‘Sunscreen’, however, is by far their biggest dispatch for the label to date. 
Three fantastical originals and one remix from the label founder, each cut takes us far away from reality, capturing our emotions and imaginations with every startling dynamic. ‘Sunscreen’ takes the lead with cosmic broken beats, sweeping spacey textures and a cult spoken word vocal that’s loaded with so many lines of wisdom it’s almost overwhelming (especially if you’re old enough to remember it the first time around) It’s backed up by a beautiful remix from Re.You himself. Rolling, organic and widescreen – it sets the scene for the two crucial club instrumentals that follow.
‘Care’ is a walloping slab of dancefloor drama that’s strung out with brilliant tension but ballasted by powerful percussive stomp. An epic Q followed by a commanding A; it’s the type of tune you roll your sleeves up to play. And you best keep them rolled up for the finale, too. 
The last piece in this provocative and emotionally rich puzzle, ‘Calculating’ is Eins Tiefer at their darkest and most pensive. A timeless moment of prowling techno, unhurried and full of suspense, there’s a great sense of mystery running throughout… And never giving itself away.

After kicking off the new year with an EP by the duo „Aliot & Bunbeck“, the second EP comes from a Russian DJ & Producer „Mr Morek“.
Already having released on „Sincopat“ & „Moscoman’s“ „Disco Halal“, he’s no stranger to the electronic music scene anymore and we are happy to welcome him with his debut on SOULFOOLED.

The EP is opened with a track called „Immunity“. A word that, these days finds a lot of attention in different political sections - so also the track breaks through any walls and barriers of genres and stereotypes.
On the second track „you can hear a lot of different fractions of electro house and melodic techno.“, claims Morek. „For me, this is something new and therefore I decided to call it „Ampere House“.
To finish off the EP, Mr Morek has chosen to write something more mysterious & magical. „Arcanum“ sticks to it, though not losing any from of energy, that has been built up through out the entire EP.

With previous releases on powerhouse labels like Diynamic and Get Physical Music, Italy’s FreakMe arrives with major pedigree with his first release for Exploited Ghetto. Combining ‘80s pop sensibilities with modern dancefloor power, ‘Precious’ is a serious earworm of a track.
A mysterious, hypnotic synth arpeggio harks back to classic trance as the track begins, with big gated snares taking us back to the 1980s. More cute retro synth licks build the aural tapestry as hi-hats flutter and pads swirl. The first snatches of the laconic vocal hook from Bristol’s Steelyvibe are teased in before the undulating bassline and its tense melodic progression unfolds.
The kick drops out momentarily, and a suddenly a bold Moog-style lead line cuts into the mix with the bassline following its melody. This dramatic moment is soon supplanted by the main groove, with the infectious vocal hook now burrowed deep into your brain. The spooky arp returns for the main break, and then it’s back to that rasping countermelody. A cool, breezy feel surrounds the track throughout, with its dancefloor intentions never overwhelming its lightness of touch.
All in all, it’s a glorious piece of work that marks another step forward for FreakMe’s sound. And there’s an instrumental version for those that like their grooves a little more direct.

With releases on labels like Diynamic & Last Night On Earth, Spanish label-turned-party-turned-production-team Depaart arrive on Exploited Ghetto for the first time with some impressive pedigree.
‘Julian’ is a typically engrossing affair from this talented duo, fusing their house leanings with a heavy nod to ‘80s synth pop. Heavily reverbered drum hits and haunting atmospheres kick the track off in tandem with a nagging synth arpeggio which slowly filters into focus. A pitch-rising synth whirr signals the intensity is about to hit, and in slams a wiggling bass pulse, matching the melody of the synth in pleasingly juicy fashion. Delicate chime notes flit across the stereo field and next a counter melody cuts through the mix, teasing us with its brief appearance. 
The dreamy breakdown comes across like a classic ‘90s ambient record, with a heavily disguised wind instrument sampled and replayed deep in the mix to add a hypnotic, indigenous feel. The track builds up unhurriedly from this moment of calm, the drum hits sounding huge when given more room to breathe. The pay-off is hugely rewarding as an octave-leaping riff slices through as the track drops. Another mini-break brings more tension, and gated synths stutter an old skool feel into the final section.

Depaart - the producers are Guille Marraco and Fran Zaragoza, but they form part of a bigger collective who throw parties in Spain and release music on their own label. 2018 saw them relaunch their production offering, and the output continues to be hugely impressive.

Patience is a virtue, and it’s one that will reward you greatly when listening to Ed Ed’s new stunner for Exploited. Building in a considered and engrossing manner, ‘Love Restraining’ will suck you in, spit you out and leave you a sweaty, elated mess.
A monotone bass groove twangs and rasps over a snappy beat, with a minimal approach to the accompaniments opted for at first. Pitched down vocals add a haunting layer, and deep in the mix a droning techno synth rises and falls. Dashes of scintillating melodic scales work their way into the mix, heavily reverbered into the background. Next, a pizzicato style blip riff passes through the track. Stabs pepper the track with more rhythmic intent, their tails extended here and there to draw them out further and deeper. All the while the shakers shuffle on and the beat and bass keep driving us forward.
A spooky breakdown sees several of these elements fuse and meander into each others paths before we slam headlong back into that bleeping, morse code style riff hammering away over the groove. 7 minutes passes by in a flash; you come to wondering where you are, where you have been, where you’re going, and where the repeat button is.
Berlin-based Ed Ed has also found favour through releases on Watergate Records and Get Physical among others, and last graced Exploited with the massive ‘Riding To Mercury’.

Rising Italian talent Packim is very much one to watch.
He presents an absolute pearler of a debut for Exploited here in the form of ‘Super Future’.

‘Super Future’ is a sleek little plumper of a track, drenched in Italo disco heritage. Its playful offbeat bassline and 8-bit computer game motifs are set against a punchy, authentically old skool beat. The bassline morphs into a buzzing, jittering groove while an analog synth plays out a bittersweet melody that glides beautifully in the upper reaches of the track. The pitter-patter of hi-hats creates the urgency, while FX risers push the energy further, and the arrangement is kept suitably varied to ensure that the track feels like a living, breathing thing that will readily consume any worthy dancefloor. 

You very much get the sense from this track that Packim has really studied his electronic music history to a tee, and that he has a brilliant knack for taking the sounds of yesteryear and updating them with a modern, sophisticated twist. More please!
