Berlin/Panama-based brothers K.E.E.N.E. have been making a name for themselves with their brooding, slow-building afro house / tech chuggers, but on this release for Exploited they show their love for strong vocals and sorrowful melody.

A dizzying flurry of synth arpeggio teases as throbbing monotone bass carves its way between the shuffling shaker patterns. A minor piano chord progression builds an introspective vibe as the atmospheric male vocal paints a picture of a man pining for his departed lover. Cleverly-deployed FX blurs the edges, delayed hits and stuttering white noise adding energy. A rolling conga rhythm laces the heady breakdown as the fizzing synths tingle their way up your spine. You begin to notice other subtle touches like the slightly warped detune effect on the piano chords and hazy synth washes that tease the background of the track. It's a testament to their skills as producers and arrangers, cutting away the fat to produce slick, impactful dancefloor monsters time and time again.

With its relentless beat, impassioned-yet-restrained vocal and gorgeous atmospheric touches, ‘Missing Point’ could just be K.E.E.N.E.’s most impressive work to date, and one that shows they have a very exciting future ahead.

This years compilation has been lovingly curated by our team to present a diverse selection, mixing the underground touch of berlin here and there, the sweet warmth of a vocal track like Alex Dimou’s, ‘This Time’, feat Black Soda, and always maintaining a careful dynamic balance and consistency throughout. Sandeman’s ‘No More Conversations’ weighs one end of the scale with a satisfying peak time thriller, alongside Roland Leesker’s own floor banger, ‘My Warehouse’. Tracks like martínek’s ‘She Bad’ operate a bit more relaxed, or ‘1141’ from George Vala, a fully functional flight into a higher realm. Robbie Akbal and Muk.ti team up and create a stellar low-down-groover, ‘Every Retreat’. Sunny open air tracks like the Daniel Dubb’s mix of ‘Everything You Got’ by m.O.N.R.O.E. are to be found as well. R+R even makes an appearance with another highly charged track, ‘L’essentiell’, keeping the tempo up in a fantastic way. Rogue D makes a return to Crosstown Rebels sister label Rebellion, following up his 2019 collaboration with Memoryman. The ​Burning EP f​ eatures three tracks that demonstrate his penchant for groove and diversity.

Danny Minchella aka ​Rogue D explains ​“the idea behind Burning was to create an EP using disco samples but with a raw house flavour, including killer basslines and captivating vocals. I hope the tracks capture this feeling and will have people moving on the dancefloor!”

Burning o​ pens with high-octane house music, a simple and gripping bassline commands attention, as powerful and direct vocals are injected into an unrelenting rhythm of absorbing energy. The infectiousness continues on ​Coming Home, ​this time the bass has swagger, the groove swings and contrasting elements morph into the track, gliding you towards sunshine days on the terrace. On ​Nights ​the vibe is turned to the romance of disco, a shimmering melody and licks of funked guitars combine with spectacular soaring vocals, one for all the dancefloor lovers.

In recent years Rogue D commenced his solo project to express his forward-thinking vision of the electronic music scene encompassing house, techno, old school garage and deep house. With a nod to his roots and digging into his personal music background of Detroit and old school influences, Rogue D symbolises the past, present and future. Over the past two years, he has released music on household names including Hot Creations, Defected, Snatch!, Pets Recordings and Crosstown Rebels.

As we enter the latter half of a challenging 2020, San Francisco-based DJ, producer and Extrasketch head Andrew Rasse, aka Butane, and regular Italian production partner Riko Forinson are showing no signs of slowing down as they ready yet another string of releases for lovers of quality and consistent house and techno. ‘In Concert’, a play on words of sorts, means both literally ‘acting jointly' (symbolizing Rasse & Forinson’s impressive ongoing collaborative output within the studio), and also the enjoyment and consumption of live music (which we all miss dearly). Here, presented as a home concert of sorts, the duo's two-part project will see the pair combine to showcase a selection of new material within the more ‘musical’ end of their artistic spectrum – beginning with four fresh productions via Volume One this September.

Opening with the slow-burning hooky vocals of the lead track ‘Let Go’, the duo exhibit a combination of influences and sonics from across the electronic sphere to produce a sure-fire post-covid indie festival jam. ‘Connect’ welcomes more blissful stylings as woozy chords and delicate vocals merge with hazy grooves throughout, whilst ‘Something Different’ utilizes expertly programmed organic percussion arrangements alongside meandering melodies and a blossoming core groove. To close, ‘I’m Asking You’ offers up the most up-front production in the package as slick drum licks work beneath warping atmospherics to nail down a driving yet delicate dubby journey and shape up proceedings adeptly.
