@sofa-talk is known for his wide ranging tastes that spans house, funk, neo-soul, jazz, broken beat and downtempo. He’s the founder of Cognitiva Records and has a monthly residency on the ever-growing Universal Rhythms. His sounds can be found on Banoffee Pies Records, Yam, Ini Movement, Tusk Wax, Broken District, Omena, and Anma. Up and coming Italo talent @xlregular hails from Rome, and operates with the dancer firmly in mind. He’s been making a name for himself by skilfully mixing and cleverly blending a myriad of elements of jazz, hip hop, and jungle, all squeezed into broken beat. Together Piero Paolinelli and Alessandro Giacchi have released previously on Omena, ANMA, Cognitiva, INI Movement, Nómada and Monologues.

On the ‘Afro Quarters EP’ Sofatalk & XL Regular cook up a collection of loungey deep house and intricate broken beat, laced with the live instrumentation, the result being this wonderfully jazzy EP. It is comprised of four electronic jazz-funk infused house tracks which make for a perfect testimony of their musicianship. ‘Rumble Strip’ kicks off with broken beats turning into a 4x4 house beat filled with percussion, dreamy keyboard licks and sultry vocals to underline the floaty vibrations. ‘Afro Quarters’ is up next pushing further into their signature jazz infused broken beat house style, with funk bassline and key stabs that make it hard for the dancer not to move! Throw in some tastefully done flute and Rhodes solos for the mature sound they’re known for. Third track is ‘Easy’, and contrary to its name it’s not as chilled as you’ think! It’s incredibly groovy, and is reminiscent of the masterful work of Kaidi Tatham, with its heavy staccato bass and keys, and dreamy jazzy chords balance it all out. ‘On The Run’ closes out the EP while continuing the overall vibe of luscious warm chords and some unbelievably impressive broken house beats.

Six months after their last installment, Shir Khan and Exploited drop another hot to trot collection of disco edits. As usual, there's much to excite, beginning with the familiar guitar solos, Rhodes keys and dub disco pulse of Antilope's "Singing Ghost" rework. Death On The Balcony keep up the reverb and delay-laden dub disco theme on "Addict For Your Love", whose rubbery groove, twinkling pianos and heady vocals have been expertly rearranged to fit house dancefloors. Finally, Matpat go loop crazy on the thumping disco house cut "Only You" which sits somewhere between Rahaan and Soundstream. Excellent stuff all round.

Diz Washington aka Bertha releases his 1st EP on the relaunched MFF with thatmanmonkz Remix
A long time ago them Freaks built a bridge with Chicago. It was a long Freaky bridge that absorbed a whole community of weirdoes. They joined forces and built a fort under the banner of Music for Freaks.

The fort was built to protect them from the normals - but also a place to build an army of as-sociated miscreants that would slowly begin their attack on the offending world of bland dance music. The army grew - and Freaks took to the road - leaving a trail of madness in their wake. Among these weirdoes was a lone man that spent most of his life underground. Known to most as Weaver, the man who lived underground occasionally appeared above ground.

Above ground he was know as 012. He would also travel the world unleashing his funk on common folk. Flying the freak flag. As the years went on the Freaks grew older and spent their time re-gathering. 012 occasionally joined forces with his family and shot disco rays at offending “normal,” - but all the while he was toiling in his lab.

The lab he created was inspired by years of watching Weird Science, formulating a plan, ex-perimenting, but to no avail. Then one day, after returning from the shops with a carton of milk, he accidentally tripped and spilt the carton into his science machine. The machine shook and popped - and then came an all mighty bang. And low and behold BERTHA was born.

Bertha brings you her funk weapon in the form of Huzzah - from Chicago via the Freaky transatlantic bridge - the jam hits you right on the butt, making you do nothing but dance.
The Freaky army enlisted Sheffield's very own funky weirdo, thatmanmonkz to join forces and Double Bang - Music For Freaks does what it does best. Fresh funk for weirdoes.
