Swiss producer and DJ Dachshund makes his Poker Flat debut with Division: a deliciously deep three-tracker with a depth and subtlety of production that envelops you from its opening bars. 

Dachshund began his music love affair twenty years ago, experimenting with the sounds of dub, jungle and drum & bass before becoming enveloped by the house and techno scene. With a style that focuses on the human presence behind the machines, his approach embraces a real sense of creative freedom, something that is expressed on his co-owned label, Clapper, his numerous released on such labels as Rebellion, Gruuv, Bar 25 music, 8Bit, Upon You and Rejected, and throughout his performances in some of the world’s renowned clubs.

His EP for Poker Flat, Division, is quality through and through, with all three tracks delivering the uniquely spellbinding goods. 

The title track opens with warm, steadily rising stabs and stripped-back percussion, with a sidewinding synth line soon taking centre stage. Deep and rich yet with a serious amount of low-end punch, Division is a wonderful, timeless slice of house music from the very top drawer. 

Corruption delights with a trippy, off-kilter rhythm and the interplay between its bubbling synths and warped vocal samples while completing the package is Only, which sits somewhere between classic Chicago and progressive house, combining tough beats and open hats with soaring synth lines and a steadily rising tension to impressively dramatic effect.

Drinking to their tenth year in the game, Hive Audio enter 2022 with a celebratory compilation triptych featuring some of the finest names in the house and techno scenes. For this first salvo of incendiary wares bound to bring dance floors to a steady simmer, HA have gathered a stellar cast of big-guns and longtime affiliates including Seth Troxler, Anja Schneider, Steve Bug, Mathias Kaden, Gorge and Dario D'Attis. 

Anja Schneider's "Aperol Spritz" toasts first with a fuzzy mix of rolling 4x4 dynamics and sleek textured synth arpeggios. A paced-up number both lounge-ready yet lacking no oomph when a solid kickstart move is required, this one's better tasted on the rocks with a mini-umbrella in it. 

Old-school to the core, Dario D'Attis "Tanzstube" loops us in a turn-of-the-millennium filtered-house kind of headspace, replete with the soulful, sample-heavy hooks and end-to-end funky swagger bound to trigger some ravishing memories and create new ones amongst the dancers. 

A smashing, hard-shuffling workout hybridised with a Quadrant Dub type of distant lineage, Gorge's "Azami" goes for the epic-sized rather than the intimately acclimated. Primed for both hi-impact and long-distance use, this is gutsy stuff with enough stamina to withstand the most feverish of nights. 

Mathias Kaden's 303-boosted treat "Acid Trip" does exactly what's written on the tin, so expect a wild deluge of flickering new beat-informed rhythms, untamed drums and lysergic bass ellipses to keep you and your friends on the edge of mental sanity throughout.

Meanwhile, Seth Troxler's contribution "Crypto Slave" pulls out the sturdy bass leads and bouncy keyboard work for some fun roller-coaster action with something of a carefree, early 90s rave vibe to it. Ideal for gym-tonic sessions in your fav neon-coloured, form-hugging outfit. 

A most fitting manifesto of a tune, Steve Bug's overly suave "Let's Go" cuts a path of sense-awakening hedonism in the club with its battery of sizzling-hot bass, love-making-like churn and sensual pep talk oozing guilty pleasures ahead.

Mancunian musician, DJ and artist Danny Ward dons his 'Moodymanc' hat to work vocals he recorded with legendary vocalist and old friend Diane Charlemagne (Goldie, Moby, High Contrast, London Elektricity) to produce a poignant EP of retro futurist deep and soulful music. In his own words:
"I had always known Diane as one of the 'older' musicians and artists we all looked up to when growing up in Manchester. We became fast friends and partners in mischief when working and touring together with Urban Cookie Collective when 'The Key The Secret' became an accidental hit (a semi guilty secret!). When I started my solo production career as 'Dubble D' Di was always a mentor and collaborator, taking time out from working with the likes of Goldie (Inner City Life) and touring and recording with Moby to record with me and also to work on our 2020 Soundsystem project, singing live and recording our cover and homage to the timeless Frankie Knuckles anthem 'Your Love'. We remained close up to her untimely loss in 2015 which, for me as so many, hit really hard.
It was on the tail end of one of these sessions that we recorded the vocals for 'Take Me Back' over some beats I had been working on at the time. They had been sitting on a hard drive, being revisited from time to time without anything solid coming together until lockdown, when the spirit and sentiment of the lyrics seemed to resonate so much on both a personal and global level, and inspiration hit in a big way!
The original mix harks back to soulful breaks and broken beat times but (hopefully) with a forward thinking and futuristic outlook. I revisited the vocal once more when I'd done this to do some deeper versions, with a little more space. It's a release that has a lot of personal meaning and emotion for me. I sincerely hope that you enjoy it."

'From the coziest speakeasy bars to the tastiest late night sandwich counters, New York City is full of delightful secrets that reward those lucky enough to find them. One of Brooklyn’s best kept secrets is Kyle Louis (fka KLM), a talented yet unassuming veteran of the underground house scene who now makes his debut with the Run It Back EP.

The third Fortune Signal label release features Louis’s impeccable original productions, in which he explores a variety of emotions, rhythms, and times of the night. Classic synths, ethereal vocal chops, and subtle dubby effects provide an overall sense of cohesion throughout.The end product is a collection of fresh, contemporary compositions rooted in classic house music language, each track full of the potential to inspire transcendent dancefloor moments.

Run It Back is a culmination of Kyle Louis’s years spent both in the club and the studio. Louis spent nearly a decade DJing and throwing parties in NYC, sharing stages with the likes of Tom Noble, Jacques Renault, and Juan MacLean before taking a break to refocus his energy on production. His past disco edits, beloved by the DJs fortunate enough to get their hands on them, have given him an innate understanding of dance music fundamentals. These experiences have served as the foundation for Kyle Louis’s creative voice as he ushers in this exciting new chapter of his understated but vital musical journey.

“Piano Speed Trap” is the peak time banger of the EP, powered by a pumping house groove and held together by insistent piano chords and wordlessly yearning vocal samples; the EP’s first single is tastefully restrained yet fully equipped for proper dancefloor damage.

The subbiest tune of the bunch, “Run It Back” slots in perfectly during the early part of the night. It’s guided by a pulsating bass line and filtered synth stabs that underscore a mesmerizing, otherworldly lead.

“Further” is a laid-back groover. The track builds energy with crisp live drum samples interplaying with atmospheric textures, and the whimsical synth melody draws inspiration from blog house-era indie bands.

“Should I Go?” begins with classic garage house drums before switching to a broken beat and an echoing, hypnotic arpeggio. Louis then brings the track to its apex with an ecstatic four-to-the-floor groove accentuated by reverberant synth pads.

On remix duties is Will Buck, a producer, DJ, and label boss well-known in the NYC and Miami dance music communities, with releases on such labels as Shall Not Fade, Pleasant Systems, and Whiskey Disco. Buck flips “Should I Go?” into a down and dirty house banger that’s driven by a forceful breakbeat and punctuated with a sinister rhodes melody.
