‘DYR’ is a beautiful, delicate, unhurried gem of a track, dripping in sensuality. Shimmering percussion and delayed claps lay a foundation atop sorrowful sustained organ-esque pads. Subtle bass throbs sorrowfully in tandem with the yearning, melancholic chord progression. Deft stabs and flutters of heavenly melody flicker across the stereo field, while sweet electronic piano motifs tug at the heart strings. Deceptively powerful, this is a truly glorious moment in time, topped off by emotive vocal samples used sparingly but potently.
‘Purple Brain’ is an entirely different but equally delightful kettle of proverbial fish. Tumbling soul breakbeats echo tightly while dubby keys and vocal cuts tickle the surface of the track. Jazzy organ thrusts punctuate the groove as bass rumbles deep beneath. Reminiscent of classic late nineties / early naughties downtempo grooves a la Kid Loco, Aim et al, it’s a light and dreamy piece of work that hypnotises you into a state of willing submission.

AEON is kicking off 2023 with a well known family member returning to the camp: Vhyce. His first songs on the label, released in 2021 sky-rocketed his career. After one EP and several tracks being released on our “Lost Tapes & Versus” compilation, he’s back with a stunning 4- tracker EP, named Suspension of Disbelief.

Vhyce, known for his tracks to create subtle tension and tell stories with no words, has developed his sound a bit further with this EP; though without losing his remark. “The titles“, Vicente explains, “are respectively referring to the structural lateralization of the brain. The feeling of closure and the avoidance of logic in examining something impossible.”

Asymmetric Mind Shift is a song full of summer feel, which could be well needed in the rainy, snowy and cold days of winter. More housey than what we might be use to, but not less catchy this tune comes along, unfolding in a sparkling break with a classic M1 Piano- riff.

Epilogue is most probably the essence of how we would define Vhyce’ sound. Indie dance meets Roland Synths with a touch of progressive. This time, as a cherry on a cake, the main melody is being played by an E-guitar.

Suspension of Disbelief and its beat-less version Out of Disbelief are mixing organic and synthetic sounds, trying to evoke suspense. A hymn-like chord theme, mystic vocals and padsounds guide this track to become a perfect one for a set ending the night, while the sun comes up.

About Yuu Udagawa
Yuu Udagawa, a Tokyo-based DJ, producer, and sound artist. With a broad variety of inspiring sounds like rock, hip-hop, Latin jazz, techno and house having shaped her inimitable style over the years. It comes as no surprise that Yuu’s music is truly captivating. It is both uplifting and soothing; marked by an elegant sophistication that reflects her desire to find harmony according to Golden Mean theory.

Hamburg-Moenchengladbach-London? Probably not your everyday route. Three pillars in their own leagues team up for "Survivor": Boris Dlugosch, Marc Romboy and C.A.R. on vocal duties. Created in times of lockdowns and standstills "Survivor" is a midtempo stomper, slightly dark yet extra moving. Clocking in at 110 BPM a percussive beat is haunted by C.A.R.'s voice and a hypnotic robot bassline. Occuring melodies and pads do the rest. In Chloé Alexandra Raunet's words: "I'm a survivor. I listen more than I talk". Remix time? Oh yes! Spicing and speeding things up a little the Johannes Albert remix arrives with additional chords, gated snare drums and maybe even happiness.

Tel-Aviv-based artist Niv Ast debuts on Get Physical with a new single featuring M Love that gets remixed by Deer Jade.

Niv is inspired by the psychedelic waves of acid, the attitude of punk-rock and the lightheaded groove of disco. He combines these in his mesmeric live show, playing around Europe with distorted guitars, ecstatic percussion and hypnotizing vocals wowing crowds. He has released on Duro, Correspondant and La Dame Noir and plays fabric the week before this single is released.

'Behind The Grace' is a broody mix of dark synths and deep rolling drums lit up by fluttering flute melodies. They bring hope, energy and light as well as the feeling of a new day dawning in spring while the drums keep you locked below.

Swiss-born, Berlin-based remixer Deer Jade is all about the hypnotic melodic. She is an emerging artist on the electronic scene currently touring the world at some of the most important festivals and clubs. Her version is beautifully organic, with loose wooden hits, instrumental rhythms and cosmic synths all adding up to something that warms the heart and brings joy.

This is a cultured two-track package perfectly primed for summer.

'Nebraska makes music about records, and vice-versa. Growing up in a family of avid record collectors, the London-based producer Alistair Gibbs, was home-schooled in everything from jazz, hip hop and dub, crate-digging for vintage breakbeats at just 13. Having made records under various aliases in the early 90s, he made his first release as Nebraska in 2000. Since then, he’s had releases on Rush Hour, Heist, Delusions of Grandeur and Mister Saturday Night, and now helms his own Friends & Relations label. 
 
Here Nebraska brings us ‘Funkbraska’ in both full length and edit versions, available solely on Bandcamp. The track is obviously and unashamedly indebted to that 90s French Touch sound, Chic’s influence on early rap records, and Uncle George’s P-Funk synth-soldier Bernie Worrell. Written and produced by Nebraska, the bass guitar comes courtesy of session ace Dan Hawkins, plus additional keys from Daniel Leseman who we all know and love as one half of the amazing Fouk. Ali shouts out Session Victim for spanking ‘Funkbraska’ early in their sets, proving this this is one late-summer stunner you just don’t wanna miss.'
