Spain’s EdOne & Bodden have featured on some of our favourite DJ-friendly labels (Suara, OFF, Material Series, Viva) and so we were delighted when they remixed Romanthony’s “Testify” for us. And it wasn’t just us, the DJ feedback to that release was incredible with the likes of Chopstick, German Brigante and Philippe Zdar all loving the guys work.

“Different Life” is their first release proper on Glasgow Underground and if you’re into Dusky, Huxley or Illyus & Barrientos the title track is pure 2am fire. Its heavy garage drums, big bouncing bottom end, sweet piano and killer vocals make the perfect record to follow “Yoohoo” (try it out – all in key, rhythms work, easy mix!).

If all that piano and garage bass business is sounding just a bit too much for you then fear not, there’s some deepness here too. “Royal House” still packs a punch but the bassline is deep and brooding, the vocals FX’d out and the sounds tougher and altogether moodier.

MILK & SUGAR - MIAMI SESSIONS 2015

So many stories about Miami have been already told, but one thing is for sure: Miami Winter Music Conference, opening its doors every March together with USA´s Springbreak, serves perfectly as the kick-off event for the upcoming 2015 music trends. The right place for house music lovers from all over the world to join an all-day party with their favorite DJs, at the pool or night-time in the clubs.

Zwischenfall formed in Belgium in 1982 with Michael Sass (synths), Martin Urban (bass/vocals) and Stephan Kraemer (guitar/drums). They were united by their interest in combining  electronic and traditional instruments, which developed the basis for 1982 demo recordings. By chance Patrick Codenys of the Belgian electro pioneers Front 242, heard two songs and decided to record a 4-song EP. The “Heute” EP was released in 1983 after a week of recording in Front 242's private studio under the direction of sound-whiz Daniel B.

In 1984 Martin Urban left the band and was replaced by vocalist Iben Larssen and bassist Thomas Kürsten. They recorded their second 12” single, “Sandy Eyes”,  which contained a remake of their song “Flucht”, sung in the English this time. Some fairly revolutionary techniques were used, including the introduction of sampling (with an Emulator I and Ensoniq Mirage), and ‘gated reverb’, in which the sound of a large reverb room was processed through a Yamaha CS15's envelope  follower. This record was originally released in 1984 on both Les Disques du Crépuscule and Fuzz Dance, packaged in three different covers.  Our reissue EP features two bonus tracks from the 1984 recording sessions previously unreleased on vinyl: the saxophone drenched instrumental “Polar Magazine” and street beat dance track  “Sacred Time”.

All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The record comes housed in a newly designed die-cut jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the magenta and yellow color scheme of the Fuzz Dance release. Each copy includes a double-sided insert with lyrics, notes, and never seen before photos.


Polar Magazine

Ukrainian DJ and producer Lessovsky aka Oleg Lisovsky debuts on Piston with the superb Anytime You Want It EP, which features three top notch deep house cuts for our listening pleasure. Oleg's sound is an impressive fusion of emotional electronic tone with deep flavour and melodics. He's been churning out quality vibes since 2012 on many top labels, and this looks set to continue for many years. His extensive catalogue now contains over 50 productions and some have aired on BBC Radio 1 broadcasts and are found in top playlists on international radio stations on a regular basis. Great to have him on board.

Anytime You Want is a superb, deep and lush cut that will most definitely find its way into many playlists. A smooth and sultry groove is on offer here which is made up of some beautifully deep tones and a soft catchy vocal riff. Warm basses are matched with smooth keys creating a soulful sound that sits perfectly in the deep house groove. A variety of expertly layered instruments add rich textures to the sound making this a definite must have for those late night sexy sessions.

Swimming In Your Hair opens with a smooth multi layered chord, a nice and chunky kick drum comes through alongside some cool trumpet sounds. Subtle percussions start to form up and the rhythm gathers pace. Deep groovy basses keep the low end rocking as the chords intensify as those trumpets continue to be ultra cool. Sensual vocals come through on the break and are joined by a super tight trumpet riff. Smooth just doesn't cut it with this one, ultra smooth maybe but simply fantastic nonetheless. 

Room 69 intros with a nice chunky kick and a crispy clean hi hat combi. A deep growling bassline takes over and we're instantly hooked by its raw appeal. The bassline is joined by a more polished and warmer bass on the break creating a cool contrast and adds to the texture of the sound. An excellent gritty vocal underpins the raw groove while pitching synths come through. A definite late night tune that will rock any joint.

Le Coq Sportif and Future Classic are back with their series of Australian covers of classic French artists.

The third instalment in the series is Melbourne/Sydney band Cadillac doing their take on Daft Punk's seminal early naughties house number "Too Long".

Daft Punk are one of dance music's most influential acts. Their 3 timeless albums - Homework, Discovery and Human After All - spawned classic tracks including "One More Time", "Da Funk", "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger", "Around the World" and "Something About Us" that are considered a huge contributor to the formation of French and filter house scenes and have gone on to shape where dance music is today.

Cadillac's cover of "Too Long" pulls the tempo down, brings out the tropical mallets, brings the same catchy bass line's and crooning vocals that you remember from the original.
