4 big ol’ chunks of heavy house music are the order of the day from New York producer Ralph Session’s hot new EP for Black Jukebox. Combining his skills as a musician and seasoned DJ along with the technical know-how from his work as an audio engineer, the result is a collection of beautifully crafted, hard-hitting house cutz.
‘That Raw’ features a breathy spoken-word vocal from DJ Amir—one half of the legendary duo Kon & Amir—that laces the soulful, deep production with a hypnotic atmosphere. Thick bass bubbles beneath soaring strings and meandering synth arpeggios to give the track a set-building, big-room feel. ‘Do It’ rocks jaunty snatches of piano and sax over its peppy, skippy beat, with a little New Jersey feel in its incessant, phat-bottomed grove. ‘If You Want’ takes us into a deeper direction with its hazy pad work and dubby touches, with a slinky, rubbery bass groove that throbs hard beneath it all. Turn it up loud and feel it envelop you with its wide-open atmospherics. ‘Raw Sax’ rounds off with a dusty, skipping drum track shuffling around dreamy filtering synths, dubbed-out stab patterns and of course a sultry sax line.

Pedro Capelossi makes a welcome return to Loot Recordings with three new originals that showcases his deep, hazy sound that’s immersed in melodic atmospheres and cosmic soundscapes.

The title track “Horimono” is a mesmerizing affair with an arrangement of warm chord stabs, swirling synths and spaced-out vibes. The breakdown brings us in deeper, creating mystery with a seductive female spoken vocal. Brazil’s Chiari delivers a remix that increases the energy for the peak time moments that intertwines smooth layers of deep house with the grit of deep techno aesthetics.

“Irezumi” is a deep groove of swaying synths combined with psychedelic overtones, accented by whirling synth hooks and a booming bass rhythm. Krissky delivers a dubby, tripped out interpretation that appears to stretch time with its slow groove and tweaked out effects and analog sounds. A real tension builder.

Closing the release is “Dark Purpose”, highlighted by a punchy bass line, crisp percussion on top of comforting strange effects and blissful chords. A real chunky groove that can set the tone for the night or welcome the morning sun.

This is the splendid deep follow up EP by our favorite Liverpool artist Petals In Sound. After her great label debut last summer where she already showed us her wonderful atmospheric electronic sound, she now continues on a journey through that same spaced- out house territory. “Dial Tone” and “Lush” are both laid back groovers that sooth every dancefloor and are perfect late, or better, early hours tunes to steer dancers gently towards sunrise and out of smoke filled clubs, homewards with warm musical memories of a danced and spaced out night.
“The Sea and Everything in It” is a personal fave here as it combines great percussive rhythms with her unique style, arpeggios and dark synths electronica, deep like a warm spring day. The outdoor raves will be a perfect setting for this one! Last we asked our other new label member Pete Bandit from Berlin to remix “Lush”. With his own debut “Wild Feelings” he already set the tone showcasing his expert percussive and driving house sound. Here again he turned the original into a loopy “New York House” style jam with cool funky drums that fit in perfectly with the other tracks and make this whole EP a tight and delightful package. Currently enjoying the Italian summer Peter LC usually resides in Berlin enjoying the city’s vibrancy. However, the artist’s music manages the balancing act of combining both the Mediterranean ease and partly the northern European melancholia, sometimes Peter fuses both in just one track, sometimes his EPs process into telling exactly this story, maybe his story, namely that of an artists, who's cut his own path. Thus far, Pietro’s - Peter LC’s real name - path has crossed with labels such as Small Great Things, Raw Soul, Discodelic Records and RVZ, a sub-label of Sakskøbing. With each release he’s establishing himself more as a respected artist within the scene contributing music, which not only scratches the surface but touches the heart of dancefloor it is played out. Surely, there will be more to Peter LC and his music in the future, but for the moment let’s hear the artist’s story about his way to electronic music-, respectively House Music-scene as well as future prospects on his artistic-being.
