Born under the disco punches in the Hollywood Hills, the Secret Society take their inspiration from the parties and afterhours of the LA underground scene…

Influenced as much by modern deep house as the by the styles that gave rise to it, the Secret Society blend rare samples with analogue synths, dusty grooves and ruff beats. Known to spend hours sifting through old records in search of the perfect groove, their sound retains a distinctly nostalgic aesthetic, which is perfectly showcased in their debut EP for 1trax. 

The ‘Our Society’ EP is 3 tracks of disco-tinged deep house built around infectious warm basslines and funk laced guitar fills. Whilst ‘The G’ and ‘WBLS’ explore a slightly more dubbed out tip, while the title track boasts serious dance floor appeal with its tracky approach. 

The Secret Society’s identity will remain anonymous but with their debut release already picking up support from a who’s who of the house music elite, their music most certainly won’t be going unnoticed.

Futuristic-funk starchild, Jimmy Edgar, returns with the third single to be taken from his recent album, Majenta, out earlier this year on Hotflush. This time Edgar shoves his free-spirited sexual appetite in your face, with a slice of stripped-down, upfront electro-funk complete with J.G. Ballard-inspired lyrics of car-crash sexual fetishism. 

Alongside the original album cut, two alternate takes are reworked by a pair of producers at the very top of their game: Jon Convex and John Talabot. Whilst Talabot creates an eerie and downright epic re-imagining through his combination of Amazonian electronics and volume manipulation, the Convex cut enhances the dance floor potential of the original with bubbling, arpeggiated 303 bass.

With regular warehouse parties in LA, a whole season of boat parties and club shows in Ibiza and a weekly radio show on key London underground station Rinse FM, we are delighted to welcome Doorly to Toolroom Records for his debut release, the almighty ‘Boom Boom Room EP 1’.
Having recently relocated to LA, Doorly is now giving full attention to his first love, house music, taking us back to those early days with the two tracks on his ‘Boom Boom Room EP 1’. Heading up the EP, ‘Wait Until The Morning’ keeps it deep and dark, creating a staunchly underground feel by layering effortlessly cool vocals over minimal and precise percussion, vinyl textures and an unforgettable groove. In support of this, ‘The Sleazy Drummer’ is all about the groove; with old school vocal licks and a nod to the urban feel of days gone by, this will take you directly to an underground club back in the day. 
These are tracks crafted for the dancefloor and there’ll be plenty of chances to hear them over the coming months, whether at one of Doorly’s warehouse parties or rooftop raves in LA, or at one of his many shows across the globe.

Soma welcome French producer Electric Rescue to the roster with his dynamic debut ‘Back Home’.
Title track ‘Back Home’ sets the tone for this EP perfectly. The main melody opens the track and with great ease, Electric Rescue brings in flowing drums which pick up the pace. Fashes of ride cymbals lead us to the break where the synth dulls momentarily before opening and flourishing back into the track. The tracks moves along perfectly, drums driving the melody all the time again breaking down with an epic pad line designed to have those hands in the air! This is a perfect dance floor number containing all the right element to have peak time dancers go wild!
‘No Garanty’ finishes off the EP if a slightly more dark fashion. Rolling sub bass fires straight off while a syncopated lead gives a haunting air while one mother of a kick drum bashes through the heart of the track. Repetition is the game here, but not enough for you to lose interest, Electric Rescue utilises interesting patterns, fills and create use of delay and reverb to keep this one a perfect peak time track.
Electric Rescue has definitely made an impact at Soma and looks certain to be making waves with his debut release.

With I’m a Cliché, we’ve been a big fan of the first In Fields EPs, and surprisingly they got in touch with us after listening to a mix Cosmo did on Tim Sweeney’s Beats in Space.

Ed Cox (from London) and Raoul Marks (from Melbourne, Australia) sent us lots of material an it was a bit frustrating to have to make a choice for this first EP on the label.

They happened to be not only good producers, but also great musicians (they play guitar, bass and synths) and they use it to create rich and personal productions, at the crossroad of new wave, dub, and dance music from the digital era.

This is the new I’m a Cliché release and it’s out May 13th
