Exploited label boss Shir Khan has always been an admirer of Mathias Modica aka Munk who is the creative mind behind Gomma & Toy Tonics records. Furthermore Mathias’ work and label inspired Shir Khan to start his own label. As they’ve known each other for 9 years it was kind of natural to exchange ideas and release a single from Munk.

For this project he teamed up with Lizzie Paige from New York and Mona Lazette from London who are now both living in Berlin where the three of them also met. Once they started working together they tried to find a new way of connecting today’s electronic dance music with elements from different genres such as No Wave, Soul, 80ies Pop and Indie Disco. The result: a perfect match!

Southern Moon is the first pre single of the upcoming Munk album. With its crisp house beat, funk baseline and beautiful singing of Lizzie Paige this track is a shiny little summersong that makes you think of the great production of Trevor Horn or Masters at Work with a new edge.
All instruments where played by Modica, recorded at Munk's Berlin studio but mixed in Los Angeles by Rob Rox (Ellie Goulding, Banks) – which gives the song this special crisp sound.

Southern Moon is the next step in the evolution of Mathias Modica's Munk sound. By practically starting the Indie Disco wave around 2003 with „Kick out the chairs“, his collaboration with James Murphy, he later produced well known club hits such as „La Musica” and „Down in L.A.”. During all of this he kept releasing also some more weird, different and new pop music: for example productions with Asia Argento, Nick McCarthy from Franz Ferdinand, Who Made Who, Mercury, Dimitri from Paris, Daniel Avery and other artists that he released on his label Gomma – which made him one of Germany's main players in the new music scene of the last 10 years. Probably that's why London's NME recently defined the Gomma label as „The German version of DFA“.
Southern Moon is the first single of Munk's upcoming new album (Sept 2014) and comes with remixes by HNNY (Local Talk) and Darius Syrossian (Hot Creations).

In 2013 Mathias already had three singles that had quite a buzz: Surf Smurf – the collaboration with Rebolledo (Pachanga Boys), The Yes!Yes! EP on Endless Flight from Japan and The Beat – which went up high in the Beatport Charts and has been played by everybody from Todd Terje to Eats Everything and Disclosure.

About the artists:
1. PSYCHODELICO
Psychodelico are a white duo from NY. Anthony & Martin met at University in the early 90’s. They immediately synched together and decided four years later to open a video rental store on the 5th Avenue.
The love for the 80’s and the rise of digital convinced them to hold tight to the VHS Library and start collecting all sorts of analogue machines knowing that one day for some reason it would have paid back.
For the last 3 years they have been discovering and enjoying their vinyls and watching with friends hundreds of old music video tapes. 
After getting inspired and writing some great music in the dusty basement that once used to be their store they finally decided to approach the dream label.
The story continues with Psycodelico’s first single “Sex On The Phone” getting signed to the mighty Exploited! A pure 80ies Cocktail: Human League and Depeche Mode Stylistico.

2. PIEMONT
Made up of long-time friends Frederic and Chris, the pair first decided to hook up and make music together back in 2007 and, since then have released on techno labels like Monika Kruse’s Terminal M, Area Remote, MBF and SKINT.
Piemont’s sound is best described as organic techno. Their music always comes stuffed with a sly robo-funk and is built in many rich layers. Their preference for ambient sounds, melodic lushness and abstract electronica makes every track different from the next - for evidence just listen to their recent 'Jack my Records' for Exploited, or earlier classics like Carbonat and Back Smoker.

3. JAMES CURD
After dropping "Red" and "I See Lights" on Exploited as Jimmy & Fred, the unstoppable Adelaide-based producer James Curd has teamed up with JDub (lead singer of the Greenskeepers Project) for a new collaborative track called “To Cool For School”. Anyone remember "Buffalo Girl" from 2008 featuring James Curd, Derrick Carter and JDub from 2008 on Greenskeepers Music? "To Cool For School" sounds like a proper update with illmatic verses and styles for 2014.

4. FREEFORM FIVE/TUFF CITY KIDS
The return of Anu Pillai’s Freeform Five has also coincided with a minor resurgence in electro clash – we’re not quite at 2007 levels yet but Five’s latest single (released earlier this year on Exploited), ‘Brandy Alexander‘ is pointing to something similar.
Pillai doesn’t really do simplicity, and ‘Brandy Alexander‘ sees the producer back to his most daring concocting a mixture of rolling acid lines, clash-y vocals and twisted basslines – and with an unreleased remix by Tuff City Kids 'Brandy Alexander' is back in safe hands.
Based just outside of Frankfurt Tuff City Kids is the alias for production duo Gerd Janson, boss of Running Back and long time DJ (Resident DJ in Panoramabar and Robert Johnson) and Arto Mwambe member Philip Lauer. Besides their far-reaching and esteemed solo careers, Tuff City Kids have provided remixes for high-profile artists such as Azari & III, Tensnake and Ali Love and released original EPs on Delsin and Osgut Ton sub-label Unterton. For Freeform Five's "Brandy Alexander" they delivered a stylish Italo-Disco-Update on Exploited which has been roadtested several times at Panoramabar Berlin and finally sees a release.

James Curd and Luke Million, what a pairing! After dropping an incredibly groovy tune “Yellow Magic” on Exploited as Luke & Jimmy, the unstoppable Adelaide-based producer James Curd has once again teamed up with fellow Aussie producer Luke Million (of The Swiss), for a new collaborative track called “Say The Words To You”. Featuring vocals from Nah Man!, aka Yeah Boy, the side project of Parachute Youth’s Johnny Castro, “Say The Words To You” is filled with Million’s signature synth lines and some serious French Touch vibes, and it’s every bit as delicious as you’d expect from this pair. Blast it above.

"Say The Words To You" pulls inspiration from the era when Chicago and Paris were walking hand in hand delivering the best house music in the world. It was like a friendly race to space with each city inspiring the other to out do the last release. Always surprising us with their A&R skills, Hot Creations are back with another outstanding release, this time from rising star Greg Pidcock, who is soon to release his debut album on the label. Blame Game is fresh and beautifully crafted with deep vocals and warm melodies, building effortlessly into sonic bliss. On remix duty, Minus favourite Hobo picks up the pace to deliver two on point reworks aimed steadily at the dance floor. A formally trained artist, Greg received his BFA in Intermedia & Cyberarts when he was 20. Introduced to Jamie Jones and Lee Foss in 2012, Pidcock was quickly signed to the label and has spent the last year working on his debut album. Studying in Montreal he soon became the Creative Director at Montreals legendary Cherry nightclub, DJing alongside legends. This led to the formation of Bad Pony Records with Tone Depth of Bedrock fame - a process, which firmly cemented his goals of creating music and art. Currently the resident DJ at the renowned Velvet Nightclub in Montreal and working with Turkish composer, Mercan Dede, as a sound engineer, Greg Pidcock is about to explode onto the international scene with his blend of passionate, sexy, heavy house. Member of the Minus family since 2007, Joel Boychuk aka Hobo very much holds his own identity. With an early Detroit influence he has explored his own form of techno expressionism: sometimes dark and abstract, others more sample heavy and groove based. With a lot of time spent on his recently released album Iron Triangle, Hobo now plans to focus on DJing after being an almost exclusively live performer for 6 years.
