The 79th release of Elevation features label boss Darran Nugent going in a fresh direction with a new song that could be easily described as Indie/alternative with a cool live feel and strong, emotive vocals.

Deep House enthusiasts need not despair because we have drafted in the remixing talents of both Vicmari (Closer To Truth) and Tree Threes (Esuoh/Hustler Trax) to transform the track for the dancefloor. Tree Threes turns in a wonderfully deep, sexy and chunky 3 am monster of a mix and Vicmari delivers a beautifully structured re imagining full of vibrant sonic colour and warmth.

Toy Tonics brings back the Kapote album. 10 dancefloor tracks originally released 2019 on the „What it is“ album. Now reworked, re-edited and with 2 new tracks.
House music, but with a heavy jazz-funk, brasil, lofi - influence. A mood that reminds early Moodymann, Kerri Chandler or 1990ies Paris stuff. Loft Disco and Indie House.
When this album came out originally 3 years ago, it caught the attention of many great DJs. DJ Harvey was playing „Jaas Func Haus“ a lot at Pike in Ibiza and Gerd Janson, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kenny Dope and Blessed Madonna were filmed playing other tracks from the album.
Kapote doesn’t release much music as he is mainly involved in the Toy Tonics label development, creative direction and is also in many productions of other artists that release on Toy Tonics. Originally a piano and art student, he later discovered DJing, nightlife, electronic music and by now is doing what he does with Toy Tonics with a couple of friends and like-minded producers.
Kapote’s real name is Mathias Modica and if you google this you will find out he has been doing music before Toy Tonics under the name of Munk. Doing another label called Gomma Records. Where he and some friends already created a little universe based on electronic music, street art, DIY culture, shirt design, underground exhibitions. Mathias aka Kapote aka Munk has produced and released records with artists like Peaches, James Muprhy and Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, The Rammellzee and WhoMadeWho. This is the past. The future will be new Kapote stuff currently in the making with Cody Currie and Sam Ruffillo. Meanwhile, check out WHAT IT IS – 2nd VERSION.

Toy Tonics comes up with a track by label head Kapote. Brasiliko is a sweet little brasil house tune. With a catchy, sunny bassline hook that gets stuck in your head and a beautiful beach life feeling. All played live with no samples by Kapote aka Mathias Modica himself, this tune fits well in a French house set but also in a jazzy playlist with a more of beat London vibe. Lots of groove, lots of Rhodes piano solos and a big string finale that gets the listened packed like in a romantic movie...

Weiss heads into the tail end of 2016 with a rampantly successful past year and a full-speed trajectory ahead. As the latest inductee into the Play It Down family, he started the label’s year with “Rollin / She Said” and a global premiere on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show. Quick on the jump to collab, Jesse Rose hopped on the next double-header with “Ask For More / Oh, Like This, Ok” which garnered support from the likes of Pete Tong, Steve Lawler, Davide Squillace, & Joris Voorn to name a few.


2016 has also spawned the start of a very successful string of tour stops around the globe on both the club and festival front and has seen him spin in front of some of the world’s biggest stages. In June we saw the birth of Weiss City, a night at Egg London with Weiss at the help, with its third installment at the start of the month selling out for its third consecutive time in a row. His song “You’re Sunshine” has seen major success in recent months, getting major play on Radio 1 and has been dubbed by many the standout track of the summer.

Furthermore, Weiss aims to continue on his hot streak with his latest upcoming release on Play It Down, “Groove Is On / Heaven” which will be available on Beatport/iTunes/Spotify and all other digital retailers on 30th of October. We’re incredibly happy to have him on the label and can’t wait to see what’s next.

For our third EP on the Mandrill we welcome back our more consistent artist on the label: C. Da Afro with four outstanding tropical cuts. To introduce the release 'Coconuts' arrives with a fresh marimba, a distinguished strings section and latin piano chords making it a perfect combination to start any type of set. Right next to it comes 'Highlight Groove' an amazing afro-vibe cut with a prominent bassline, a phenomenal saxophone solo and exotic female vocals. On the third position 'Tropical Boogie' brings a chilled vibe to the release with french house touch to it among vocoders, analog synthesizers and digital basslines. For our last but not least 'Zooming' ends this story with a romantic taste with a synthesized bassline, an 80's drum pattern and a nostalgic female vocal unwinding thing up.

That’s how T.U.R.F. describe the origin of their latest EP for Exploited, the funk-fuelled, finger-lickin’ ‘Whatcha Gonna Do’. And going back to the source for inspiration has proved a masterstroke, with the duo cooking up two super-groovy tracks that will be in heavy rotation for months to come.
‘Whatcha Gonna Do’ works its way around an Afrobeat flavoured guitar and bass groove, with chattering tribal percussion tumbling over a classic house beat. Vocal chants add another layer of swing, with a filtered breakdown taking us right back to that French touch era and an irresistible Santana-esque, guitar solo weaving in and out of the foreground thereafter. The groove is thick and relentless and will keep you bopping throughout. Close your eyes and you could be on the dancefloor at Djoon in Paris in the early 2000s...
The flip ‘Real Heads Know The Deal’ is a more urgent, insistent affair. Drawing on the same DNA as the title track, the pace is upped and the swing pushed further into shoulder-wiggling slinkiness. At its core: another infectious guitar loop. Sprinkled on top: a funked-up vocal cut-up. The bass is warm and curvy, and blasts of feel-good horns are woven in at just the right moments. Hypnotic disco house at its very finest.
