Quietly making it's way through California legislative process is a bill that will legalize street prostitution.  Few people are aware of how drastically this will change our communities and our lives.  Million Kids predicts that it will drastically increase the number of sex trafficking victims as pimps and organized crime will bring thousands of people to California to make money.  Certainly, they will claim the sex worker is independent but without law enforcement intervention, how can we know? 
 
This week Opal Singleton is joined by Nancy Aguirre who is a National Human Trafficking Expert with years of experience supporting law enforcement working with gang, narcotics and sex crime investigations. This week we have had the opportunity to work with some of the most dynamic individuals leading the charge to support victims of sex trafficking.  During the show we talk about the services they provide.  We also provide an update to what is happening in our communities as a result of the implementation of California SB 357. Literally vans of young girls are being brought in from out of state and loitering to solicit prostitution in front of Catholic schools and blocking the driveways for private residences.  

Operation Reclaim and Rebuild:  Riverside County Anti Human Trafficking Task Force (RCAHT) announced a successful operation working with the FBI where 31 individuals were arrested on a variety of charges including solicitation of prostitution, prostitution and pandering. Most important there were 31 arrests, and 7 potential victims of sex trafficking were rescued.  This was part of a Statewide program where there were 368 arrests and 131 potential sex trafficking victims were rescued. RCAHT is victim focused and the Task Force works closely with victim services providers to ensure they are provided with resources to escape and heal. 

San Bernardino County District Attorney Victim Advocates:  Million Kids had the opportunity to meet many of the Victim Advocates serving San Bernardino County and share about the crime of sextortion.  These are extraordinary individuals who work diligently to provide specialized services for victims of crime.  

Mama’s House: Desert area. Mama’s House held a fundraiser to expand their campus.  What an incredible event.  Dr. Ben Carson was the key note speaker and he mesmerized over 1000 people with inspirational stories of his life. It was heartwarming to see so many highly successful individuals willing to support a program that makes it possible for pregnant teens to deliver and keep their babies when they find themselves in a situation where they have little structure or financial support.  Congratulations Jan Lupia.  It was a fantastic experience.

The past two years has brought a plethora of technological advances that is enough to make our heads spin.  Only when you step back and examine all the types of technology advancements can you begin to understand the impact on our day to day lives and how to prepare our young people to live in a global online community.  
 
The FBI and Child Crime Prevention and Safety Center state that there are over 500,000 pedophiles online at any given time.  They also state that more than 50% of victims are ages 12-15 years old. Approximately 90%  of contacts with victims of online sexual exploitation where contacted through chat rooms and instant messaging apps.
 
This week, Opal Singleton, the host of "Exploited: Crimes and Technologies" explores the vast array of technology advancements that impact our day to day lives. These include, artificial intelligence, geo location software, digital currency, mass audience live streaming and the explosion of the number of new young users of inexpensive tablets.

In fact, the Department of Justice states that online financial crimes affecting older people are up more than 11% in 2024.  

There are many contribution factors.  Almost everyone, including Grandma and Grandpa have online devices where they can be reached by total strangers all hours of the day and night.  The year 2023 resulted in many third world countries receiving 5 G High Speed Internet which gives immediate access to literally billions of people around the world, especially for successful Americans with retirement accounts.  And most apps and websites now have money processing capability which facilitates an easy transfer of American cash to foreign countries.  

This week on “Exploited: Crimes and Technology” we will explore the world of online scams that exploit our older population.  We will look at romance scams, timeshare scams, sexual blackmail, phishing scams, and scams involving a grandchild in need.

If you or someone you know is a victim of an online scam, STOP all communication immediately.  Ask for help from a third party you trust. .   Never – ever give money to someone you met online, regardless of how much they might care for them or you believe their story. Understanding Human Trafficking  in the Inland Empire

It seems that we hear about human trafficking through the media almost every day.  But few people are truly aware of the reality of how this happens and even more so, they are surprised to find that a family member or friend of a friend are victims.  The crime of human trafficking is often defined by force, fraud, fear or coercion.  A young person may go online and meet someone they really fall for and then sneak out and meet up with them, only to find out that the real person is a pimp or gang member that has been grooming them for a life of forced commercial sex.  Victims of trafficking are groomed, coerced, seduced and then violated to the point that they often feel as if they have no way out.

What will Human Trafficking under a New Presidential Administration

Million Kids has been combating human trafficking here in the Inland Empire and across the nation for nearly 15 years.  We have seen many changes as pimps, predators, and pedophiles use technology and sophisticated grooming and recruiting tactics to access, groom, seduce and recruit our children.  However, much of this has changed over the past four years as our nation’s leadership has encouraged open borders.  The result has been the migration of literally millions of individuals from all over the world.  Many are fine individuals looking for a better life. Some are criminals and coyotes who prey on those fine individuals as well as holding their families back home hostage to blackmail/ransom payments.  Some are criminals and gang members who are part of organized crime.
No one knows for sure what the future will bring.  We do know that when a country or a state overlooks the rule of law, criminals will see that as a major opportunity to exploit innocent individuals.  The challenge will be separating the victims from the perpetrators and being able to support the needs of the victims. This makes the victims much more vulnerable to violence and exploitation.

Understanding the Impact of Sextortion on Prepubescent Children Part 1

Several times a week I am contacted by distressed parents of 8-9-10-11 year old girls and boys, who have been exploited through someone they met on social media. It is heartbreaking for all concerned. The parent (especially dads) are experiencing deep loss when they find out their innocent little girl has sent vile sexual photos of herself to a pedophile she met in a Roblox or Minecraft game or through Kik or Facebook. The child, whether boy or girl, is trapped and being threatened by the predator.

Take the case of John Peter Byrns, who drove from his home in Illinois because he lured an 11-year-old Florida girl to sneak out in the middle of night. By the time her family went in to wake her up for church the next morning, she was missing. They later found her in a motel with Byrns in Georgia. Her parents knew she was talking to a guy in Illinois on a video game but they did not recognize the danger she was in.

The psychological impact of sextortion on children who have not yet developed their sexual and moral identity is enormous. One of the challenges is that the child does not have the physical equipment or the intellectual capacity to understand why a pedophile wants their photos.

In many online video games SEX IS A WEAPON for which you receive points. No love, no respect, just points. When sex is used by predators to trap kids, they experience multiple levels of shame and depression. Today, predators define our kids sexuality BEFORE parents have "The Talk.”

Parents also process loss, blame, and shame. They must seek counseling. Parents must come together in this situation or children will experience more rejection and shame than they did with the pedophile. And parents will blame each other.

It will address how predators and organized criminal entities use the internet to exploit youth, conduct money laundering, recruit for criminal activity and conduct cyber-crime. We will provide classic scenarios about how apps, live streaming and video game chat rooms are utilized in crime. It will close with a challenge to young people to become self-responsible leaders that will create programs to teach future generations on how to use technology safely so they and future young people will not become victims of exploitation.

We are asking for matching funds to create this motivational leadership documentary that will be distributed free to every school in the United States and can be downloaded by parents and teachers. We have raised $40,000, but we need $65,000 more to make this a reality!

ANIMATED PORNOGRAPHY VIDEO GAME CHARACTERS: A TERRIFYING TREND Pt. 1

Recently Pornhub (the largest porn website in the world) released a report on their 2018 top searches and downloads. The results were startling and caught all of us off guard. It seems there is an entire new industry that has developed around our kids' video games where the characters are being made into animated pornography. Characters from "Fortnite" (the most popular video game in the world for young people) represented SIX of the most downloaded videos with a total of 39.4 MILLION searches and downloads.

Certainly anyone combating sex trafficking is not shy or blushes easy, but we researched these animated pornography videos and the results were mind numbing. Animated pornography means the sky is the limit. No physical restrictions. No moral component. No relationship factor. Even more important, when a person researches these animated videos, they are then offered multiple sexual advertisements after the fact (artificial intelligence) for extreme sexual videos EVEN WHEN THEY ARE SEARCHING FOR BENIGN SUBJECTS unrelated to previous searches.

This week we will talk about the impact of animated character video game pornography on our kids, as well as how it creates a grooming incubator for predators, especially when kids are sharing interactive sex scenes through the video game chat room. We will look at the impact of animation on the belief that animated sex is not real and is harmless. We will look at sex as a weapon used to get points, and when sex is used outside of the context of intimacy, commitment or a relationship. We will look at the impact of animated sex on a 12 to 13-year-old male who is developing their moral and sexual identity.

Tik Tok: The World's Most Downloaded App Part 1

Kids love it. Parents are oblivious. Sounds like a game so kids as young as 9-years-old are playing on it. The parental warning is that you need to be 16 to use it, and nobody seems to either understand or care. Follow Million Kids on Facebook and you will see it is fast becoming one of the most used apps by pedophiles and predators. SO WHAT IS IT?

Recently, Tik Tok surpassed Facebook for number of users globally. It is owned by Chinese firm, Bytedance, headquartered in Singapore. Tik Tok bought Musical.ly about six months ago and surged to become the favorite app of young kids around the world. Facebook is now fighting back with "Lasso" that has similar features but with the added ability to share your Lasso videos on Instagram and Facebook. What Apps Are Safe for Kids? The Answer: NONE OF THEM! Part 2

This week we will look at how various apps work, as well as the evolution of apps, chatrooms, teen dating sites and live streaming. We will also analyze apps such as Whisper, Tango, Chatroulette, Omegle, Line, and the new generation of live streaming apps such as Live.me and TikTok. We will discuss how these apps have changed childrens’ behavior. And, how it has changed how pedophiles, pimps and predators use them to access, groom, recruit and exploit kids.

▪	WHISPER: anonymous social media app that allows users to share secrets with others and can share users’ locations so they can meet.
▪	TANGO: Tango is a social networking app for phones and tablets that offers multiple ways to connect with friends and strangers via voice, video and messaging, group chats, games, phone calls, music, and news feeds. With its geo-location capabilities and high privacy risks, Tango carries a significant risk that young people will connect with strangers online, experience cyberbullying, or become victims of child grooming.
▪	CHATROULETTE: allows anyone with a webcam and Internet connection to instantly video chat with any other visitor anywhere in the world. The site requires no registration or age verification.
▪	OMEGLE: is a free online video chat website that allows users to "talk to strangers." Users do not have to register and the service will randomly pair users in a one-on-one chat session where they chat anonymously using the names “You” and “Stranger” or “Stranger 1” and “Stranger 2” when it is in Spy mode.
▪	LINE: is a freeware app for instant communications on electronic devices such as smartphones, tablet computers, and personal computers. Line users exchange texts, images, video and audio, and conduct free VoIP conversations and video conferences. Line includes an option to choose "Hidden Chat," which entirely deletes messages after a brief time, similar to Snapchat.
▪	LIVE.ME: users can stream live video of themselves to an anonymous audience of fellow users. Those users can post comments and interact with the people in the video. Not only is LiveMe a potential hunting ground for sexual predators, the location services can be used to pinpoint exact locations—within 10 feet.
▪	TIK TOK: Millions of teenagers seeking their 15 seconds of fame are flocking to TikTok, but many of their parents are only now learning about the express-yourself video app- often to their dismay. Critics say TikTok's surging popularity among young girls in particular exposes them to caustic comments and other potential abuse by their peers, while offering a choice hunting ground for sexual predators.

Law Enforcement at Work in the Inland Empire Pt. 1

This week we are going to talk about several recent local cases right here in the Inland Empire. We will discuss cases involving Mexican Mafia affiliated gang arrests for drug smuggling, sex buying arrests, and an alleged human trafficking and child pornography case involving a female offender.

Case 1: 35 tied to San Bernardino gang charged in drug-smuggling investigation

April 25, 2019: Nearly three dozen suspected members or associates of San Bernardino’s Westside Verdugo gang have been indicted in an alleged drug-distribution scheme, authorities announced.

Of the 35 indicted, 24 were arrested Monday, April 22, 2019, while another 10 were already in custody. One remained at large.

The arrests were made by more than 250 law enforcement personnel.

Operation Westside Verdugo Guillotine was intended to take down the street gang, U.S. Attorney Nick Hanna said.

“(Westside Verdugo members) are the foot soldiers of the Mexican Mafia in (San Bernardino) County,” said Paul Delacourt, an FBI assistant director in charge.

Operation Westside Verdugo Guillotine involved investigative work by the FBI, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the San Bernardino Police Department. Another seven agencies provided substantial help.

Case 2: Eleven men are arrested on charges of solicitation for prostitution in Ontario

Apr 26, 2019: The suspects, ranging in age from 21 to 65, were residents of San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, and Los Angeles counties.

The San Bernardino County Human Trafficking Task Force, in a combined effort with officers from the Ontario Police Department, conducted an in-call hotel "John" operation in the 2100 block of E. Convention Center Way.

The operation is part of an ongoing effort, through heavy presence and enforcement, to suppress human trafficking/prostitution throughout the valley communities of the county by targeting purchasers ("Johns").

Sex trafficking is not a victim-less crime!

Case 3: Woman arrested for juvenile human trafficking, child pornography production

May 1, 2019: Catherine Englebrick, a 40-year-old Twenty Nine Palms resident, was arrested and accused of producing child pornography and human trafficking of a female juvenile.

A lengthy investigation revealed that in August 2018, Englebrick allegedly took nude photographs and produced a pornographic video of the underage victim. She allegedly sold the photos and video via "social media applications."

Detectives also allege that Engelbrick attempted to persuade the victim into having sex with an adult male in exchange for a "cellular phone."

Note: It is not uncommon that a victim of human trafficking is groomed and recruited by another woman.

How Civic Groups and the Faith Based Community can combat
Sex Trafficking and Social Media Exploitation during the Pandemic

Most of us are aware that sex trafficking and social media exploitation of our teenagers is a very real thing.  Many faith-based leaders are telling me their resources are limited but still, they want to do what they can to protect and inform their families.  It appears that most teens and even young children will be spending a vast amount of time online with distance learning this fall. Even first graders are being prepared for online learning.  Parents, teachers, and pastors are concerned about how to keep their young kids safe from predators.

This show will focus on how churches, synagogues, and civic groups can create practical programs that will address issues related to sex trafficking and social media exploitation.  Sex trafficking can be a dangerous and violent crime. It is important to know how to recognize it and report it but not get involved.  We do not want grandma down at the motel taking on the cartel.  Additionally, most of our kids are seduced or groomed through online relationships.  It is important to know how to talk with your child, and help teens in your youth groups that may not be getting good direction from home.  Even more exciting is to learn how to encourage your teens to become leaders to use technology in a way that glorifies God and honors themselves and others.

BASED ON REAL CASES this show is all about how criminals use technology to exploit the innocent and how to keep kids safe from predators.

Human Trafficking and Child Pornography expert, Opal Singleton, has educated tens of thousands of first responders, government agencies, civic leaders, school administrators, medical personnel, faith-based organizations,  parents and grandparents about how predators operate and how to prevent young people from becoming victims of exploitation.
