October 2013 will see the reissue of 26-year old American composer Peter Broderick's 2008 debut album Float. Returning to his home in Oregon, where his musical journey began, Peter completes the circle with the release of Float 2013. Remastered by the gifted hands of Nils Frahm, Float 2013 will also include two additional bonus tracks with each album download and will be reissued on CD, vinyl, digital and even on a limited edition cassette via Erased Tapes. The album release will also be accompanied by Float 2013 Addendum, a 7” single featuring ‘Something Has Changed’ re-arranged as a duet for violin and viola, with the new title ‘Something Has Remained’.

Brought up in a musical household in Oregon, Peter quickly became a popular session musician for the likes of M. Ward in the Portland area. Later discovered by the Danish band Efterklang he joined their live band and spent the next six years based in Europe where he collaborated with many like-minded contemporaries. Through relentless touring, multiple album recordings and film scores Peter has established himself as a solo artist, known for his innate gift as a musical medium to picking up any instrument, turning his musings into poignant songs.

Having previously released ‘Ten Duets‘ on cassette tape, Peter is a big fan of this format and is excited to be taking part in Cassette Store Day on September 7th 2013. Float 2013 will be available in store in a hand numbered limited edition of purple cassettes in bespoke packaging. ’A dialogue was started with Robert, about the idea of one day giving Float a second chance. And a bit later I found myself in the studio of my dear friend Nils, remastering these songs which on one hand felt so far away, but on the other felt right at the core of my musical heart, the foundation of my aspirations as a musician. And what Nils did to the sound, how he worked his magic as he always does, filled me with the conviction that this project had not previously reached its potential. In so many ways I've found myself coming around the circle, back to the place I started, only perhaps the circle itself has moved. But the dream is the same. Fresh off the stage from Coachella 2014, Argentinian producer Pedro Canale aka Chancha Via Circuto fulfills his long-awaited return “Coplita” – the debut single and 7” from his new album after 2010’s Rio Arriba, which was hailed by the New York Times, Pitchfork, the Washington Post and named amongst the top ten albums of the year by NPR and XLR8R among many others. 

“Coplita” ventures onto a well worn path through the mystical outer reaches of South America for longtime Chancha fans with it’s traditional folkloric rhythms blending into otherworldly electronic sounds and the vocals of longtime collaborator Miriam Garcia gently haunting the song.

Chancha’s new album Amansara will be released by Nickodemus’s Wonderwheel Recordings on CD, Double Vinyl and Digital in Late September 2014.

Wasted moments. We had a lot of them. Even though I believe I’ve done the right thing at the time, when I look back I realize I actually made my life a lot more difficult. Not an uncommon tale. I rarely learn anything from the mistakes, in fact if I went back I’d probably do the same stuff all over again.

But I am trying. I’m trying to be better, and more honest. I was thinking about those wasted moments one night while I was working on my next record. I started writing this song, finished it in front of my drum kit the next day. I already had all my songs for the new record, this felt like something different, born out of the same ideas but for different reasons. 

I recorded it with tempo because life to me is tempo, it’s rarely slow. This song is the connect from where I was, to where I’m going to be very soon.

Stars are like fiery hot balls of gas, held together as one massive globule with the help of gravity. Like humans, they are born, have a finite life time during which they age, and finally die. The initial mass with which a particular star is born, decides how it evolves.  Take for example a star like the sun, whose mass is roughly 2 times 10 to the power 30 kg, that is, 2 followed by 30 zeros. It fuses hydrogen to helium for a few billion years.  During this period,  gravity tries pulling all the matter inwards while radiation, from burning hydrogen, exerts pressure outwards, that is in a direction opposite to that of gravity. The burning of Hydrogen keeps the tug-of-war between gravity and radiation going. As the amount of hydrogen starts decreasing, the star grows into a massive red giant. As the name suggests the star has a reddish colour and grows in size because of the thin layer of Hygrogen that surrounds a small helium core. In fact, when our sun becomes a red giant, it will grow so big in size that it will engulf all the inner planets of the Solar system, including the earth. After all the hydrogen fuel gets exhausted, gravity starts over-powering the outward radiation pressure, making the ball of gas collapse on itself. This is when things start getting exciting and stellar fates diverge.  For sun-sized stars, the core starts collapsing while the outer shell starts expanding and is eventually blown away leaving behind a white dwarf star, that is hot, less luminous and nearly the size of the earth. For stars, born with roughly twice the mass of our Sun, the cores collapse further. They undergo a massive expsion called a supernova and end up as neutron stars, that are roughly the size of a small city with a 10 km radius. A different kind of pressure, called the Fermi degeneracy pressure, exerted by fermions that are particles like electrons and neutrons, prevent White Dwarfs and Neutron stars from collapsing further. But what if there is a star that is really really massive? Such stars, with masses many times the mass of our sun, explode brilliantly and finally form a black hole. No kind of pressure can counter gravity in black holes. Even light, or more generally, electromagnetic radiation, cannot escape from these notorious objects. 
When you look up at the night sky and see the countless number of stars, remember each star has its own story!

In February 1999, three longtime friends from West Texas went to a pizza place in Austin, Texas, for a prearranged meeting with a young man from Illinois. The Illinoisan had just moved to Austin, and he had put up a flyer that caught the interest of the others. They ate pizza and discussed movies and arcana. They also decided to meet the next day with their various instruments (two guitars, bass, and drums). This happened, and over the coming months they picked a band name, then picked a better band name, then wrote and recorded an album. That album, called How Strange, Innocence, was largely out of tune, but the band members didn't really notice at the time. They optimistically printed 300 copies, and gave most of them away. It turned out they really liked playing together, so they kept doing so. A friend of theirs sent a recording of one of their live shows to a record label in Baltimore, and that label offered to put out albums for the band. The band agreed.
