We Were Promised Jetpacks - Ink Slowly Dries

Bedroom pop prodigy Andrew Collberg expands with a looser, live sound on this new 7inch single. Collberg wrote the songs in the midst of lengthy travels but looked to improvisational collaboration when it came time to bring them to life. 

Taken from Collberg’s forthcoming LP, “Dirty Wind” and “Back on the Shore” come from a pile of songs written while traveling Western America and Central Europe. 

These are songs that do not belong in the hands of one man, but in a room where they’re able to breathe among many. Engineer Jim Waters (Sonic Youth, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, etc.) helped to create a vastness that reflects the true nature of these songs. Relying on Collberg’s natural talent, almost nothing on the record is planned out; it’s just five people in a room, a man behind the glass and some incredible songs. 

Both sides are songs that explore the nature of travel, yearning and questions of identity. “Dirty Wind” is blues-based rock, a march of guitar riffs that set up Collberg’s catchy vocals. “Back on the Shore” is a slower, pensive showcase for Collberg’s melodic pop and masterful arrangements. 

Born in Sweden, Collberg picked up the drums as a young child in New Zealand, but it wasn’t until moving to Tucson that his musical horizons began expanding. He began making home recordings at 14 and made his solo stage premier at 16. 

Collberg has been recording and crafting pop songs in his bedrooms for over a decade now, with multiple releases to show for it. After making his international debut with last years On The Wreath (le Pop Musik), Collberg decided to step out of the bedroom, recruiting some of Tucson’s brightest musicians to realize his vision. 

“Dirty Wind” / “Back on the Shore” is Collberg’s first 7inch and debut on Fort Lowell Records.

Amateur Best is a new creation from London's Joe Flory (formerly Primary 1). Through soft, lilting pop songs Flory tells the story of James Best, a sometime London DJ, latent alcoholic and lifelong amateur. Best's hijinx are also chronicled in an accompanying comic book following our hero through the murder and mayhem that is pre-Olimpik London, as James' fate becomes inexorably entwined with that of the city he lives in.

Double Denim are hugely excited to announce the physical release of a 7" single on February 13th and also an accompanying comic book to complete the story. On the A-side on the single is 'Be Happy' a bittersweet song carried along by languid electronics and an anxious but soulful vocal that looks into the mirror and can't seem to find anything familiar. With an even darker complexion is 'The Wave' a song that makes up the B-side of the record.

EXRAY’S is a lo-fi electronic band from San Francisco, CA. They enjoyed early success when their song Hesitation was included in the soundtrack to David Fincher’s 2010 blockbuster, The Social Network. This led to numerous tours of the country with high profile national acts like Matthew Dear, LCD Sound System, and Toro y Moi. Between 2010 and 2012, Exray’s released three albums, and each received critical acclaim from Variety, Pitchfork, Spin, the Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Daily Kos, Bandcamp, and more. Rather than expanding on the promise of their early albums, Exray’s developed an obsession for astrophysics, extinction events and terraforming. They quit touring and spent two years outside of the public eye. This led to speculation by Stereogum in 2014 that “the band had disbanded.” Later that year, Wire reported sitings in Jaipur, India on a low budget film set. In the final months of 2015, the band released an EP called The Dome and then in 2016 played three live shows in support of Twelve, a full-length album, that was based on Vessel XII. Replacing rumors of a breakup, new speculation focused on Astrid Bly, Exray’s unlikely guru, patron and collaborator.
