Kite Person is a collaboration between songwriter Greg Tebbano (Firefighter Font, The Black Ships) and beatmaker/producer Michael Okon (Rawstrumentals). Atavism continues the work the two began on their debut EP Tonight We Run (2012 Sub-Bombin), combining chrome-colored beats, post-punk guitars and more soft synth destruction. Atavism is an evolutionary term—an ancestral trait which reappears after having been absent for many previous generations. Drawing from influences as varied as Burial and the Pet Shop Boys, Kite Person stirs a similar cocktail of past and future in order to navigate the harrowing ordeal we call "modernity." Written over a period of several years, Tebbano’s lyrics document the inhumane expectations of the digital age and a society on the verge of a conflagration. Expanding upon the sound palate of their debut, Atavism pulls in live drums, lo-fi programming and acoustic balladry to stand aside Kite Person’s trademark down-beat thumpers. Rescued from the hard drive of a deceased Mac G4, these tracks represent secular resurrection at its finest. Recommended if you like Of Montreal, Destroyer, Washed Out, Black Moth Super Rainbow.
