FLAX is a Weimar-based DJ, sound artist, and cultural manager with a diverse background in various music scenes and subcultures. She started her journey as a DJ with the foundation of the network Metaware Weimar in 2019 and has since worked in various roles, including concept artist, music teacher, event manager, booker, and sound artist. Her style is described as "genrefluid trips" that blend different genres and sounds.

FLAX is currently pursuing musicology and cultural management studies at the music university Weimar, where she researches the field of "music and well-being," the history of electronic music & sound art, and the intersection of "music & gender" in club culture. She is also committed to inspiring and empowering young FLINTA* people through workshops.

FLAX is working on the production of her debut album project and has been teaching at the Bauhaus University Weimar since 2022 to further her research.

"What always drives me is my love for music. It's not the world that's unfair, it's the people who don't know any other perspectives. I will tirelessly play demanding and progressive sound on the stages I stand on because that's what drives me - curiosity, love for sound, and a desire to experiment. New spaces, sound scapes, whatever and diverse perspectives are realities of life, realities(!) and I want to hear and see them for real. Hello! It's ribozomi here and you're listening to Amazing Trip Session and this is our 117-th edition. For this episode we're welcoming a friend of mine, DJ and artist who I met in Germany some years ago. He was born in France and finally we have him here for his special trip. His likes to combine a lot of styles, fan of the slow down tunes. This ladies and gentelmen is Stan Chopard. Enjoy the journey!

Where were you born and raised?

- I was born and raised in the parisian subburbs before moving to a middle city : Dijon where I spent most of my teenagers years.

Describe your music journey with few statements. How everything started and how you ended up to electronic music. Which factors shaped your music taste?

- My music journey started in Barcelona where I used to live then I got mezmerised by a few artists like four tets or rone which led me to dig into electronic music a little more. I started with a very special love for downtempo music ; I loved the energy it brought to a dancefloor . I played this music for a lot of years as a DJ but its been a while I wanna try something a bit different from what Im used to play . Something faster but keeping some special downtempo recipes.

What can we expect from your mix?

- In my mix you will find a lot of slowed down tracks even if I play at a faster BPM I love playing with the bpms to make a new track from already existing one, I try to keep an open eye to different genre of music. I cant stick to only one genre or after a few days I would get bored of this genre. I need to keep my ear fresh all the time so switching from a genre to another helps in the process.

FLAX is a German DJ, sound and concept artist, initially trained as a professional saxophonist. Her foray into DJing began with the founding of the network METAWARE Weimar in 2019. Alongside these diverse roles, FLAX developed as DJ a genre-fluid style, blending UK bass, experimental breaks, ambient and jazzy electro enriched with hip-hop samples.

During her musicology studies, she focused on the fields "music and well-being" and the history of electronic music, particularly in the context of "music & gender" in club culture. This academic journey inspired FLAX to explore fluid mixing and experimenting with ambient, sound art, and deep listening tracks under the same alias, reflecting a response to the societal pace.

Her progression into music production started with sampling orchestra pieces – analogue – and evolved this influence into a solo project – digital – with a collage-style approach, incorporating electro-acoustic sounds, field recordings, and other ideas. This evolution is strongly influenced by her DJ journey, creating a unique fusion of multiple genres. Currently, FLAX is working on her debut album project, processing and weaving together her diverse musical experiences.
