Making their label debut earlier this year on ‘Reflections 01’ with ‘Winter’s Song’, six piece British band Northling return to the Reflections family for their first solo release with new single ‘Damselfly’; the lead track from their upcoming EP ‘Tycho’, due September 2022.

Starting as an improvisational band in 2017, Northling quickly developed their distinctive sound, drawing on their wide range of musical influences, from electronica to nu-jazz; earning them recognition from the likes of BBC Radio 1, 6 Music and BBC Introducing.

Layering delicate vocals alongside intricate piano melodies and soaring dynamics, Northling show off their impressive live instrumentation and flair for emotive songwriting on new single ‘Damselfly’.

Fans of the label may recognise the lead track ‘Illusionist’ from recent flagship compilation ‘Anjunadeep 14’, curated and mixed by label heads James Grant and Jody Wisternoff, where its delicate production stood out, even among over 40 other brilliant tracks.

Paul Baule has previously released on Amsterdam-based Click Records, as well as local Berlin labels Mind Field and Rebellion der Träumer, and earned himself support from DJ’s including Gabriel & Dresden, Jonas Rathsman, Alfa Romero, Frost and Mees Salomé.

Earlier this year, Bristolian DJ Jody Wisternoff along with label co-founder and A&R James Grant, released their milestone tenth mixed compilation 'Anjunadeep 14', featuring the stunning original composition 'Second Chance'.

Since debuting the track during a special live performance of Anjunadeep 14 at Qarraba Bay in Malta, the 180 minute sunset performance has garnered over a staggering 872,000 views, with ‘Second Chance’ amassing over 200,000 streams alone.

`A soothing production of twinkling pianos, shimmering rain sounds and gentle synths that swoon alongside one another, the track sees Jody & James join Reflections for a full release. Jody shares how the song came together in his own words.

“It was whilst watching the end sequence of Disney's 'Soul' during the height of lockdown and the low of a depression that a beautiful piece of piano music jumped out and literally shook me to the core. I felt a tangible relief from the darkness, and was immediately inspired to interpret this soothing but melancholic melody into something me and James could put our stamp on.

After gaining permission from the original composer, Trent Reznor (9 Inch Nails), we got to work and turned out this piece which we feel very happy with. We hope you like it too.”

Returning to the label, classically trained pianist and electronic producer Alexandra Vysheslavova aka Omfeel, makes a four-track debut with her brand new EP ‘Happiness’, due 26 February on Reflections.

Taking a traditional route into music through a classical music edication, Omfeel studied jazz and composition throughout her formative years, going on to work professionally as a pianist for visiting tourists at the Palace of Labor, a teacher and accompanist in higher educational institutions.

However her slow-burning passions for the rich stylistic diversity of modern music soon became clear, spending days listening to an array of genres from pop, ambient and soul, she felt a craving to compose more diverse piano arrangements with electronic textures. 

Since first appearing on the label in early 2023 with a stunning piano composition ‘Dancing Ego’, Omfeel has amassed over 1.3 million streams to date and featured the track on James Grant & Jody Wisternoff’s prolific annual compilation ‘Anjunadeep 14’. 

Taking it’s title from a journey of personal liberation and inner strength, Omfeel’s latest offering is an inspiring, uplifting and introspective body of work. Composed with empowerment in mind “so that nothing can disturb the harmony within you”, her EP ‘Happiness’ encourages you to embrace the good in every day.

Deepest azure oceans crossover into "Cerulean Sky"; shades of blue combine, blending together into a stratosphere that envelops the planet for "We Are All Astronauts". The soft beats and static crackle of radio frequencies sit atop lilting percussive cadence before emotive melodies resonate in pulsating synchronicity with low-end bass. Energy rises in imperceptible increments, pausing for piano to swim in deep space reverb before launching forwards once more in relentless glory.

Sunrise and Sunset form a delicious juxtaposition as the vibrancy and excitement of a new dawn gives way to the outward breath of day's end and sweet vocals swirl ahead, echoing themes of love. The earth's troposphere providing orange glow from above, hints at storms to come.

Dutch master, Nick Hogendoorn, charts a new trajectory. Deep house beats take on added urgency, repetitive structures hit rhythmic points and a collage of effects and sounds provide jet stream turbulence. Building to a subtle crescendo, stratified layers of sound combine to a homogeneous whole through technique and craftsmanship and sotto voce vocals are pitched down in subtle nuance reflecting the shimmering origins of a "Cerulean Sky".

Vapour trails are burned away in blazing sun to reveal a deep "Cerulean Sky" in all its iridescent glory.

This track is again built in combination of acoustic recordings, electronic soundscapes, deep bass lines and dance beats. In a moderately fast tempo, 115 bpm.

Adjacent:

Cool and metallic synthesized waves bloom and fade with each drum beat, that 
sets the stage for an amazingly chilled composition. "Adjacent" is just what we 
need from Ametrine to realign ourselves to those things we want to reach most.

Downwind:

Much less intense on the high end than Adjacent, but "Downwind"'s percussion 
certainly strikes harmony within the soul. A beautifully chilled track that 
is perfect to wake up to the sun with.
