So, before it all happened… you felt you had to be perfect?

[Ian Blackman:]
Perfect? Yeah. That was the deal. You had to be flawless just to be… tolerated. One little slip, and you prove them right.

One tiny error, their whole theory perfected.
My white coworker could cruise and still feel fine,
But I had to break my body just to hold my own line.
Pushed myself harder, no room to be human,
No space for complaining, just keep on consuming

Loved the work I was doing, the whole damn team.

Private work channel, some dark right-wing news,
I made gallows humour, lit a very short fuse.
Shared a picture of a Nazi with his hand in the sky,
Called it a Reform salute, a quick, bitter reply.
Woke up next morning, my private joke made global,
On some culture war station, completely ignoble.
Some talking head on the TV screaming I should be fired,
For mocking a fascist… the irony felt so tired.

They came for me. Racist DMs, slurs… people said it was what you get with a “diversity hire.” I just kept checking my work email… waiting for someone… anyone… to have my back. But there was just… silence.

The Interview (Part One)

[Interviewer:]
So instead of finding the leaker, the person who betrayed your trust… they investigated you?

[Ian Blackman:]
Yeah. Me. I was the one who damaged their reputation, apparently. They punished me. They didn't just slap my wrist… they made me disappear.

[Verse 1]
And the company I trusted stayed deathly quiet,
They refused to support me, instead they fed the riot.
HR scheduled a meeting to interrogate me,
Instead of real safety, they brought me to my knees.
The judgement they gave me wasn’t a memo they wrote,
They banned me from Slack groups, cut me right at the throat.
Just the essential work channels, all the culture disappeared,
Like they gagged my whole presence, confirming all that I’d feared.

They cut the connection, they turned out the lights,
Locked me out of the chatter, the days and the nights.
Now I’m persona non grata, a name on a file,
They punished the victim, it’s always their style.

A few weeks went on, this new truth hit me hard,
Heard there was a team dinner, I wasn't on the card.
The invite was posted where I could never get through,
A friend asked why I missed it, I said, “I never knew.”
That small moment just crushed me, I’m not one to weep,
But I hid in the bathroom, the wound was too deep.
It wasn't about the free dinner or the corporate night,
But the proof I was banished, erased from their sight.

They needed a ghost, so I gave them a phantom,
Show up, write the code, throw a quiet little tantrum.
But after I’m logged off, the true haunting begins,
Drowning out all their voices, absolving my sins.
In the strobe and the smoke, there’s no need to be perfect,

They wanted me silent, they wanted me gone,
So I found a new life from the dusk to the dawn.
