A trusted part of Manchester’s prolific musical playground, Tom Leah has been brewing experimental new sounds for over a decade. Since adopting his Werkha alias in 2012, the DJ and producer has been mesmerising dance floors up and down the country, employing a live band to help fuse his analogue jazz-funk vibes with modern dance music sensibilities.

‘All Werk Is Play’, out April 29, marks Werkha’s first full-length solo project since his debut album ‘Colours Of A Red Brick Raft’ on Tru Thoughts in 2015. In the Mancunian’s own words, the new album “is dedicated to mixing things up, to walking down that street for once because your feet took you that way, to deciding not to take the bus today, to moments of improv, to breaking with convenience, to challenging structure, to play.”

With this in mind, his exclusive Dummy mix is every bit of the eclectic force ‘All Werk Is Play’ is, threading together sounds from across the globe into 60 minutes of dance bliss.

As co-founder of the MNML SSGS blog, Chris SSG was at the heart of dance music's most pressing discussions and cutting edge sounds from 2007 - 2012. Though originally from Melbourne, he has been based between Osaka and Tokyo for some time. It is in that city that he has hosted a number of events while also playing his own ambient, techno and experimental sets further afield around Japan as well as at European clubs like Nachtdigital, Sustain-Release and Berghain.  

He says of this week's mix, "Half-jokingly I describe my style as ‘big room ambient’. Well, for two years, I did not play in any rooms, big or small. Then, finally I did, again, and this was what happened. This is the recording of an extended extended ambient and deep space session at a chill out party in Tokyo. I tried to play in a way that really captures my approach to playing ambient, moving between different energies and making contrasts, while featuring many of my favourite artists. This was a special experience for me, and I am very grateful to be able to share it with you." And he does just that over the course of four absorbing and compelling hours. Myriad different worlds are explored from textured and tense to blissed out and beautiful, but the whole mix is held together with a narrative arc that is greater than the sum of its parts.

As we enjoy the summer season, we are delighted to welcome Paragon, the talented curator of the 315th Deep Breakfast mix.

Paragon means a person is regarded as a perfect example of a particular quality. Always open to exploring different sounds, as of lately, Paragon has been discovering more relaxing or different realms of electronic music or IDM. Nowadays you can find in his selections mostly from ambient, broken beats of techno to different types of drum n bass. He has been the curator of the podcast series Parallel Perception, where you can also experience his vision and taste in electronic music.

"This set is part of my Sunday morning routine. Me and a cup of coffee and records that I put in for the quiet mornings. I picked some of my favorite records that I keep coming back on a regular basis. It's not super polished but it's honest something that helps me to wake up and have a good day. Hope it keeps you good company, wherever and whenever you listen to it."

Adhémar is a multi-disciplinary artist, establishing his universe through music and visual works. Constantly in search of the luminous quality of sounds, in a world made of shadows and light, his music is closely linked to his plastic work.
This obsession with shadows leads him to think and create spaces, atmospheres that focus on the lightness and poetry of light. The idea of "narrative potential of music", allows us to confront the psychological and philosophical journey with a particular relationship on what is alive and what surrounds us (whether it is the material, immaterial world, the fact that everything is constantly becoming). With a particular rigour for transitions, whether in his own production or in his DJset, his universe is built little by little, with the passing of sound transformations and the light and poetic transportation of it all.
