ABOUT:
Meet Manchild, hailing from Oldham in Greater Manchester. After taking a hiatus from the scene, he returned with a bang in 2019, quickly making a name for himself in the progressive scene. He landed his first big break by supporting one of his all-time favorite DJs, Anthony Pappa in Manchester, and went on to win a nationwide DJ competition to play at London's Ministry of Sound alongside the likes of Shadow Child and Vanilla Ace.

Manchild has since gained a residency with the prestigious Manchester brand 'Up Close and Personal Mcr', where he has played alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, including Jody Wisternoff, Marsh, John 00 Fleming, and Richie Blacker. He has also played gigs with London brand 'Free From Sleep', sharing lineups with the likes of Grum, Diode Eins, Mr Sosa, Estiva, My Friend, Richie Blacker, Taches, Asch Pintura, and Redfreya.

Recently, Manchild played arguably his biggest night to date for the Scottish brand 'Music is the Answer' at Mains Castle in Dundee. Originally booked to play room 2, he stepped up on the night to play a double set in the main room instead, before handing the decks to none other than James Zabiela. After being invited back to the castle to play again, he will return on July 8th to play alongside Framewerk and Mr Sosa.

With a strong love of all things progressive, melodic with the occasional breaks thrown in for good measure, there is still a lot more to come from the Manchild.

Behold, a recreation of part of my set from Joshua Brooks in Manchester when I supported the mighty Cristoph on December 2nd 2023, along with Nick Coulson and Mark McMahon who both played before me.

I was overjoyed and grateful to be given the slot handing over to Cristoph, but even more overjoyed to see him enjoying my set and then ask me if I'd like to play B2B with him for the last 20 minutes before handing over to him. It just went beautifully and I will never forget it, or his kindness. 

Unfortunately, my Tascam recording device didn't record as it should have on the night and I'm so gutted about it. It would have included the crowd noise and atmosphere created by that amazing crowd, but this recreation is the next best thing.

*A couple of tracks are improvised towards the end as I don't know the names of the tracks Cristoph played during our B2B.

Hello Everyone, and Welcome to our final exclusive Progcast of 2023. Strap yourself in for our last trip around planet progressive for this year. We've taken a short trip from the South of England, to the hallowed North ... Manchester awaits you, and the home of a DJ who has achieved so much in such a short space of time. Please make some noise for the Manchild!!


Manchild, AKA Daz Smith is a Greater Manchester based DJ who refuses to be pigeon-holed, due to him playing what he wants. Comfortable with playing at any time on a line-up, whether that be warm-up, peak or closing time, all the Manchild cares about is that the crowd have the most untold time. 

After only getting back into DJing in 2019, and after a very long absence for family reasons, he fell back in love with the more Progressive sound all over again. Daz quickly became resident for Manchester brand ‘Up Close And Personal Mcr’, indulging in breaks, melodic techno, indie dance and more; Manchild's versatility allows him to flit seamlessly between all of the above. 

Since 2019 he has shared lineups and DJ space with James Zabiela, Cristoph, Anthony Pappa, Jody Wisternoff, Marsh, Cosmic Gate, Grum, John 00 Fleming, Richie Blacker, Mr Sosa, Estiva, My Friend, Fehrplay, Marcus James (Renaissance), Dave Pearce, Diode Eins, Tommy Farrow, John Kelly, Dave Beer and many more at venues such as London's Ministry of Sound, EGG, the Steel Yard and Manchester's Stage & Radio and Joshua Brooks' legendary basement. 

Already in early 2023 he has supported and handed the decks to technical wizard James Zabiela at Mains Castle in Dundee for 'Music is the Answer', and he's done exactly the same for the mighty Cristoph, and Cosmic Gate when supporting them on the UK leg of their 'MOSAIIK Chapter II' World Album tour at Joshua Brooks. Daz not only handed the decks over to Cristoph but also played B2B with him for a little while too. 

With more forthcoming gigs TBA, the Manchild is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
