Selecta - Focused 140 Dub

The latest Free Download comes from Fork and Knife who comes with a genre-binding single entitled ‘Real Monsters’.

It’s not hard to see why his sound is so original with 10 years of production under his belt. The producer based in North East London has carved out a sound that pays homage to the underground scenes that have shaped him as a person over the past decade. More recently spreading his wings into Grime and Garage he’s applied techniques from producing different genres over the years with the result being unique structures with injections of sharp sound design using square wave basses and a frantic selection of drums.

Having being named ‘One to Watch’ by The Guardian he’s gathered quite a bit of attention since, with support from Zinc, Murlo, Cable, Target, Spooky, Trends, Boylan and more across the likes of 1Xtra, Radar, Rinse, Reprezent, ModeFM and NTS. Recent releases on In:flux Audio and Raw Tactics have seen him achieve number 1 spots in both Juno’s Bass and Garage charts and a 9/10 review in DJMag respectively ready to prop him up for his debut release on 1Forty.

Starting out DJing from a very young age and jumping into production at the age of 16, despite never taking it seriously at the time it set him up for a future in music. Attending university to study music production in 2014 the music artistry started to flow. Since then he has released on Articulate Sound (Ali McKs Label) as well as Broken. The Suffolk based producer has gathered support from My Nu Leng, Skepsis, Distro, Marcus Nasty, Murder He Wrote, TC4 & loads more.

His track 'Contagion' taken from his debut EP ‘Feel Free’ was featured by Dummy Mag and reached #1 in the Juno Download Charts and also had a track featured in DJ Mag’s Top 10 by Sheffields ‘Where’s North?’ earlier this year. The 28 year old is now officially represented by Articulate Artists Agency setting him up nicely for his debut 1Forty Release with his Single ‘They Don’t Know’. A Funky flip on Wiley’s Colder. The original going way back to 2006 taken from ‘Eskiboy Da 2nd Phaze’ Mixtape. Premiering on BBC Radio 1 on Toddla T's Show on 08/11/18.

The next MC to step into a 1Forty Release feels like he has been around the grime scene for a while, yet amazingly is still only a teenager. SBK came to prominence on the now defunct Radar Radio, whilst also being brought through by Novelist on a number of occasions. Funnily enough the scene hasn’t welcomed a shining talent so young since the 2018 Mercury Prize nominee first broke through on to the scene with The Square 5 years ago.

The Stevenage native has already tore down the likes of 1Xtra, Rinse FM, Boiler Room, Kiss, Pyro and more than held his own amongst MCs twice his age at Grime Originals. The past 12 months has seen him light up a ton of sets across the UK biggest platforms, released works with the likes of Mez amongst a number of self releases, and of course featuring on a key moment in the Grime calendar - Lord Of The Mics 8. Clashing T Roadz and then of course all the promotion that came with it, such as coverage on each participant by Sir Spyro, the compilation release alongside the likes of Grime royalty Roll Deep and Wiley, and the launch party with the likes of Skepta showing love.

1Forty being 1Forty.. we paired the standout MC of the next generation of Grime artists, with one of the labels most versatile and original producers in Fork And Knife, and the outcome is a Funky/Grime hybrid Single releasing 19th November.

SBK x Fork And Knife - Bars [Free DL]

We thought it had been far too long since we released a stand alone UK Funky release.. 15 months to be precise. What better way to pick up where we left off than bringing a funky reboot by Lucent of one of last years biggest tracks ‘My Family’ from the BBC Sound of 2021’s Pa Salieu featuring Backroad Gee.

For some reason in the ever thriving UK scene we don’t seem to come across too many producers from Merseyside but one thats been a consistent staple across the Bass & UK Funky scene in the last few years is Lucent. Coming up to nearly a decade in the game he is regularly affiliated with the likes of Hot Cakes and Durkle Disco as well as the infamous but now redundant Trouble & Bass (USA) along with Tumble Audio and Roska Kicks And Snares. Releases across these labels have seen him work with AC Slater, Dread MC and more recently SB:TV’s critically acclaimed Buggsy. There’s been work with other 1Forty artists also with the likes of Fish and Shantie.

Being the stand out UK Funky producer that he is, it’s no suprise that regular support comes from the likes of Marcus Nasty, DJ Pioneer, Roska and even Tensnake which led to shows across the north at the likes of Hangar 34 (Liverpool), Night Kitchen (Sheffield) to further down the country at The Club (formerly The Irish Centre, Nottingham), the infamous Motion (Bristol) and Lightbox (London). Obviously those times are further away from us than we’d like at the moment allowing Lucent to focus on his output with ‘Family’ being his first release of 2021 making his debut on the 1Forty imprint.
