Starting out in the ’90s in the Midwest, Duvante and the ele_mental crew took frequent trips to Detroit and surrounding cities searching for a certain kind of groove; they naturally developed a network of like-minded individuals. After time in New York, he now resides back in Columbus, Ohio, where he reps with his party Midwest Fresh. A musical polymath, Duvante is a musician, recording artist, producer, label owner, DJ, vocalist, composer and remixer, and his music has been released on Planet E, Metamorphic, Mosaic, Palette, Environ and his own label, Residual Recordings. Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
This mix was recorded in our studio in Melbourne. Our idea was to strengthen the connection we have formed with the Japanese scene in the past few years by choosing music exclusively from Japanese and Australian artists. We also included a few unreleased tracks from Butter Sessions that feature both Australian and Japanese artists. It kind of captures how we might DJ in a longer set but condensed to just over an hour. Jumping up from more ambient sounds to house and then techno and then winding it down again.

Q1. 今回のミックスはどこでどのように収録しましたか？今回のミックスを作りあげる上でのアイデアがあれば教えてください
レコーディングは僕たちのメルボルンのスタジオで行ったよ。このミックスを通して、この数年間に日本のシーンと築いたつながりや体験を強めたいと考えていて、そのために日本とオーストラリアのアーティストの音楽だけを選んだんだ。Butter Sessionsからまだリリースされていないトラックの中から、この二国のアーティストが作ったものもいくつか入ってる。僕らがロングセットでやることを1時間ちょっとに圧縮したようなミックスになってるよ。アンビエントからハウスに、ハウスからテクノに盛り上がってまた戻っていくような、そんな感じだよ。

When she's not working behind the counter at Phonica, Lucie divides her time between producing, DJing and performing as Avsluta, free improvisation and creating conceptual sound work. She runs Introspective Electronics, which is a monthly show on Netil Radio and a series of podcasts and chill-out gatherings at The Lion & Lamb in East London. 

Lucie’s second half of 2020 is packed with some exciting releases. First up, she has an electro-acoustic mini-album coming out with David Toop on Cafe OTO’s digital label Takuroku, followed by a collaborative experimental double LP with Christian Duka as Vãdin on Utter, and lastly, a tripped-out, progressive and trancey 12” shared with Miro SundayMusiq for E2-E8 Records.
