Exclusive Several Definitions & LaMeduza 'Respire (Skatman Reconstruction)'

Newly founded Swiss label Récits de Mars is ready to launch with the label's co-founder Several Definitions and his EP 'Perception/ Respire'. Aside from featuring two original tracks the labels's first EP is bristled with remixes from Clint Stewart, ENØS and Berlin based DJ, producer and Scatcity label-head Skatman. The latter had a tremendous 2018 establishing his music and the label's music in the scene and gaining support from various scene heavy-weights like Dixon. Now the Berliner firstly leaves his hailing port in order to contribute a remix to Several Definitions' label-launching EP. Therefore Aziz, Skatman's real name, takes on the track 'Respire' and adds the trancey, dreamy and hypnotic vibe he's known for best. Still Skatman manages to not exaggerate or deconstruct the original track's note but surely reconstructs the original elements and gives them the momentum to unfold a different kind of force on the dance floor. 

Several Definitions 'Perception/ Respire' will be released January 25th, 2019 on Récits de Mars.

The Spanish house and techno scene has arguably never been stronger than it is now. From Andres Campo to John Talabot and Javier Carballo, a raft of internationally-acclaimed artists have emerged from the country over the past few years. On a label front, it’s hard to ignore the work of LNDKHN. Founded 2 years ago now, the label has sprung out of nowhere to become one of Beatport’s most popular such labels. Helmed by Ignacio Benitez AKA Landikhan, their modus operandi revolves around top class electronica, the likes of which appeals to a wide range of DJs.

To celebrate 2 years of music, the label has put together an impressive V/A, consisting of work from an array of artists affiliated with the label for some time. Up first is Uji’s remix of Landikhan & Nina Indigo’s ‘Santa Medicina’, a killer opener which showcases the label’s liking for deeper pastures. The Balearic stylings of Baiuca’s remix of Kermesse’s ‘Dub Kantine’ is another welcome addition. Baiuca is an electronic artist who combines electronica and traditional music from Galicia: where electronica meets Galician music! Unsurprisingly, this track immediately transports the listener to the heart of the Balearics.

Elsewhere, Kyrill & Redford’s Late Night mix of Holed Coin’s ‘Famous Stranger’ is a stirring, dramatic, hypnotic cut with off-kilter samples that’s definitely made with true tech-house heads in mind, before Alvaro Suarez turns in a cracking remix of Landikhan & Caravaca’s ‘Traversata’. A synth-heavy interpretation that’s full of classy Latin vibes, it’s a smart remix that’s in keeping with the label’s Spanish heritage, and is a track that closes this record with a familiar poise.

There’s a particular euphoria within the sound of things gracefully falling into place - and
when nature, intuition and senses coalesce and translate into coincidental layers of organic
and synthetic musical structures - good songs are made. It may have taken Bavarian artist
Dan Grassler eight years of producing ethereal tracks with ambient disposition and jaunty
tendencies to divest and recloak as his Naeiiv moniker, but after retracing his musical drive
and reimagining his artistic vision over the past two years, Grassler unravels his narrative
this spring through a three-track EP on the up and coming, Berlin-based Sol Eterno. And
though the project came about just because it sounds and feels right, well, it sounds and
feels right. The young label led by Braunbeck and Hazel, has brought a handful of new
talented acts into the light (pardon the pun) and SOL007 keeps that momentum going.

In ‘A Trip to Morainia, He-man’s friend Teela points out that with an open mind, good ideas may come from unexpected places.

Naeiiv’s own journey to Morainia was an anxious but necessary risk. By letting himself be naive
again, and surrendering the upperhand of proficiency, the DJ/producer maps out his own
direction and cuts a unique signature sound along the way. Naeiiv crossed the bridge out of
Eternia by way of ‘A Trip to Morainia’ - a melodramatic tapestry of graceful sound structures
aroused by curiosity and tightened by inconsistencies and the acceptance and embrace of
the unknown. Elegant snare, astute fusion of organic and synth sounds pummel the
determined and inquisitive EP forward and increasingly relevant to human motion - likely on
the dancefloor!

AEON continue their phenomenal start to the year with an EP from label founder Alex Niggemann. Due for release this April, Niggemann invites the inimitable Lauer to provide a remix.

Love, Music, People proves how Niggemann is “always trying to push [himself] and the label forward stylistically”. The lead track demonstrates the “more Italo and house influenced sounds” that the AEON boss has reignited his passion for recently with its bounty of synths, prominent drums and robotic vocal stab. As well as performing and producing under his Tuff City Kids alias alongside Gerd Janson, Lauer has released music on Running Back, Futureboogie Recordings, Live At Robert Johnson and Permanent Vacation. Niggemann explains that “adding a mix from the very talented Lauer was an obvious choice”. On his take, he stamps his unmistakable sound on it with light, uplifting synths and adding a deep groove to the bass. On closing track Rise Of The Machines the Italo influence shines through once again with its driving bassline, weighty drums, bubbling synths, mechanical elements and a hint of cowbell.

Close your eyes, start to dance and time can be forgotten. Back to the roots – back to good old house music tunes, simple but not easy produced. The DOMPE style does not need to be described in more details. Again, and again full of different facets. After Qubica's first strike with their 'Idoru EP', which was released on Engrave Ltd in November 2018, the duo, consisting of Italian artists Enrico and Giovanni, readies its second EP, 'Stratos'. The four tracker musically takes up what the duo started last year, synth-oriented approaches with a penchant for melodical dance floor takes. Without praising 'Laud', the third cut on the EP too much, it's probably the most complexly arranged track on 'Stratos' with multilayered echoing and varying synth-chords fading in and out before a guitar-seeming lead-melody accompanied by funky soundscapes occur and evoke a Mediterranean overall vibe that, to sum it up, make the track a pleasant sound experience on and off the dance floor.
