In the midst of the increasingly popular house music hurricane comes a fresh two track EP from one of the movement’s most promising talents, Richy Ahmed. Taking cues from hip-hop, techno, funk and disco, ‘The Drums’ EP arrives on the 2nd of December via Hot Creations.

Just stretching his limbs in terms of his discography, in less than two years the London-based producer has gathered some series attention. From 2011’s slinky, deep house mover 'Suck It' (Hot Creations) to his 80's chicago manipulation remix of Infinity Ink's 'Infinity', there’s always an enviable glisten about his work. His wizardry behind the decks lead to him being named resident DJ at DC10's Paradise this summer with the season coming to an end in late September.

'The Drums' got its maiden plays during Richy's Boiler Room Set and the takeovers of Paradise Ibiza. The EP steps out of the blocks with definite verve. Title track, 'The Drums', a hip-house barnstormer of a track it massages a buttery-smooth rolling bassline into a four-to-the-floor backdrop with contagious results. Legend, Kevin Knapp, jumps on vocal duty dropping in and out with praise to 'the drums'. On the flip side, '101 Jam' is a rolling analogue slice of deep house brilliance. Here, Richy pitches skittering hi-hats and hyperactive synth movements atop a robust bassline foundation. It proves homage to the brand of house celebrated right from the genre’s genesis.

The new dirtybird compilation is loaded with 11 great tunes I have been collecting for over 6 months. Most notably, the Shiba San "OKAY" record has absolutely been destroying every dance floor known to man. We have lots of big birds like Justin Martin, Catz ‘N Dogz & Justin Jay on this, plus a ton of great newcomers and friends making appearances.

The dirtybird BBQ was founded as a small get together in Golden Gate Park thirteen years ago. We've had the same core line-ups and even the same chef, Grillson, since the beginning.  But three years ago, the free party in the park got too big and our permit was pulled.  The city of San Francisco could no longer handle the amount of people showing up to the event.  

Ever since then we have been trying to think of way to bring back the vibe of the BBQ park party. This year we finally put together a team that is able to take the BBQ party all across North America and Europe. We will be starting in Miami and ending in San Francisco so make sure to come grill and chill with us sometime this year. This compilation is a celebration of the O.G. dirtybird BBQ vibe.   I hope you enjoy the music.

1. Hey ihr Beiden ... hier könnte jetzt eure Biografie oder auch ein cool formulierter Pressetext von euch stehen, steht aber nicht ;) Wie würdet ihr einen dieser beiden Punkte in nur einem zusammenhängenden Satz formulieren? 

Eigentlich sind wir ziemlich verschieden – genau deshalb passen wir auch gut zusammen. 

2. Wann hattet ihr eigentlich euer erstes Mal? Ähm besser gesagt in welcher Situation habt ihr das erste Mal bewusst an einem Mischpult gestanden?

Bewusst dürfte das vor ca. 5 Jahren in meinem alten Keller gewesen sein. Unser erstes Mal hatten wir dann Ende 2013 in der Magdalena bei den Jungen Wilden – für die wir seit neuestem das Techno-Booking machen. 

3. Wo hat für euch Musik ihre Grenzen? 

Standartantwort: Musik hat keine Grenzen! Eine wortlose Sprache, die Dinge bewegen kann und die Menschen verbindet. 
4. Wie würdet ihr eure Musik charakterisieren? 

Grooviger Techhouse oder deeper, treibender Techno – Wir haben beides. 

5. Was denkt ihr, wie findet die Musikindustrie Talente? 

Talente gibt es sicher viele. Man muss herausstechen und jede Chance nutzen um dann zur rechten Zeit am rechten Ort sein.

6. Welche Rolle spielt Performance-Musik heute? Bzw. welche Rolle spielt sie für euch? 

Performance Musik wird immer wichtiger. Die Performance sollte in unserem Kontext jedoch die Musik unterstützen und nicht andersherum. 

7. Was sind eure 3 häufigsten Gedanken beim spielen bzw. wenn ihr gerade auflegt? 

„Ich könnte jetzt noch 10h so weitermachen“ ; „Wer kann mir den nächsten Drink bringen“ ; „Die Platte passt aber gerade wieder so gut rein.“ 

8. Thema DJs und Ihre gewissen Markenzeichen ... welches ist euer Markenzeichen?

Auch hier ist das wohl unsere Gegensätzlichkeit – der eine beim spielen eher ruhig und konzentriert, der andere die ganze Zeit in Bewegung.

Hannah Wants drops a bumpy club banger on Toolroom entitled 'Call Me' that includes none other than the mighty Kevin Knapp on vocal duties. Hannah's meteoric rise to fame has been very well documented in recent years and she truly is one of the brightest shining stars on the scene. Her newly launched label 'Etiquette' continues to go from strength to strength and her gig diary is chocker-block which is testament to her hard work ethic and unrivalled skills behind the decks. As well as releasing on her own imprint, Hannah has also graced the digital record shelves of Sola and Brock Wild already in 2019 and there looks to be plenty more where that came from in the clip.

Hannah lays down an incredible groove on 'Call Me' which rumbles along from the off with tight, crisp percussion and a wobbly bass line that you can't help but move to. Kevin is right at home with this sort of track and does his thing over the top, adding some real character and hooks to the record. Club & radio will be loving this in equal measures and we at Toolroom are super proud to be hosting this latest outing from Hannah Wants & Kevin Knapp!

Berlin-based half-German half-Puerto-Rican music producer Fab Massimo has always been a musician at heart. With over a decade of experience in music production, he settled into his own unique interpretation of Tech House called Rolling Tech House that constitutes a fiercely energetic escape from the commercial funk that is currently swarming the scene.

Since his debut release in 2019, he managed to create a hype around his steadily growing reputation. In 2021 his single “MY MAN” sky-rocketed on the Beatport charts, hitting the overall all genres #11 and got over 500k hits on Spotify, receiving showers of praise. His follow-up single “Smile for Me” cemented the success with over a million streams on Spotify. Fab's 2023 kick-off release "This Track" did just as well with over million streams on Spotify to date.

In addition to his passion for music, Fab Massimo is actively involved in social media to raise awareness about mental health, promote a contemporary view of masculinity, and advocate for authenticity in the music scene.
