....and as with everything Toi Toi related, we like to expand our horizons and explore deeper all solid musical influences and here is one of mine, the strongest: techno & Detroit. You all know of my dear love and obsession for Techno. A child of Jeff Mills, Rob Hood, Surgeon and later on the minimal techno front with Richie Hawtin, Daniel Bell, the dub side with Maurizio as well as UK influences, and eventually landing on to Perlon via that.

With that said it comes as no surprise that I fell in love with the productions of Luke. Everything this guy made I would love, be it on releases on his own imprint DeepLabs or on Carl Craig's Planet E or say in his collaborations with the likes of Omar S. 

Leading the new generation of Detroit producers and djs, along with artists such as Kyle Hall he has helped shape and maintain the city's status as an epicentre of true, soulful techno. His analog 90’s minimal approach infused with dub Detroit sounds makes him such a gem, the sophisticated side of the golden 90s, classy and elegant -  this adoration for him and his music led us to host him in our series, it is with great honour we do so.

It’s not often you have something to do with a living legend. A symbol, a name that evokes sounds, feelings, and pleasant moments. All this, and even more, it’s what Mathew Jonson represents. The Berlin-based eclectic artist really is one of a kind. With a recognizable classic background, his music offers a rare fusion of populist intensities and nuanced musicality, always managing to keep the dancefloor busy while making the listener’s mind free to dive into all the facets that electronic music allows to explore. He’s responsible for some of the most iconic masterpieces of the last two decades, including “Marionette”, “Typerope”, and “Pannacotta”, tracks that have transcended the mere club use, later becoming anthems for thousands of ravers all over the world. A relentless work in the studio has led him to develop his iconic live set that sometimes also features his wife Isis on the vocals, adding a special intimate touch to an already incredible effort.

Cosmin TRG, recorded live from Room Two in January 2016.

As the Romanian DJ closed out the room while Ricardo Villalobos was warming up in Room One, it was one of those nights where time had become transient. His set was strikingly strong and held such a firm vibe in the room we asked him to give us an impromptu extended performance – ending long after the room was due to close. With this night still firmly etched in our memories even a year later, we got in touch with Cosmin to unlock his set for everyone to hear. 

Speaking to us via email, Cosmin told us: 

“Room Two in fabric is one of my favourite places to play. The energy and the sound are always at peak levels, and the team is the loveliest around. That night I was on closing duties, and as I thought things were going to wind down, the place just filled up again and I was asked to keep playing. I loved every second of it as none of it was planned, and just locked into the crowd and kept going with the vibe. Hope this recording gives you a glimpse into that special morning.”

Cosmin TRG returns to Room Two to headline a bill of leftfield techno in Room Two this Friday for our first fabric Presents, joined by Oliver Ho showcasing his Broken English Club project and Samuel Kerridge’s industrialised live set.

Long overdue, but finally it’s going to happen. Listen to our newest podcast made by one of the most charming people we know: LUX. 
Hard for us to think about Leipzig and everything we love about the city‘s electronical scene and not to mention her. As former part of the IO Collective, dancing the pain away together in the woods and meadows countless days and nights, taking first babysteps as nervous DJs together, noticing her eating plastic deco apples on the Conne Island dancefloor, experiencing sunrise romanticism in Olganitz or by just watching all the photos she took over the years as Leipzigs scene and friendship-chronist over and over again.
The perfectly mixed and thoughtful selected podcast she contributed has everything we love about her and her music. This time a bit more „darker“ as usual (at least some of us would say), eclectic and elusive in a good way and non-stop with this special Lux-feeling in it what makes her one of the best DJs this city originated. Emotional, warm, meandering and truly danceable.  
Now living in Berlin and traveling around the world  she will always have a place in our hearts and parties even if we sadly can´t hang around as much as we used to.
