As a prelude to the upcoming Soul:ution Room Two takeover on Friday 16th May, label boss Marcus Intalex and one of Manchester’s most reliable renegade emcees, DRS, have bumped consciousness and put together this, their ‘Mid Mic Crisis’ mix. Regular sparring partners in clubs the world over, DRS’ trademark measured Mancuian flow rides perfectly atop on Intalex’s soulful selection with his baritone delivery sitting sweetly and filling out the dynamic range of the rolling selections which reportedly feature, in some form, material from DRS’ forthcoming second album, Mid Mic Crisis.

Basically it’s a glorious and specifically tailored 62 minute mixtape showcase of DRS’ potency as a host, an emcee and a vocalist. But it comes mixed by Intalex which more than hints at the level of quality it contains... two of Manchester's finest in sterling form.

DJ Marky is one of few electronic artists who pretty much sums up the word 'legend' in its entirety. Bearing a style and a degree of energy that transcends dancefloors around the globe, Marky has breathed a new life into the drum & bass scene since he first emerged back in the late 90s. With a knack for releasing chart hits alongside underground club cuts Marky’s held down a long standing residency here (under his Marky & Friends and Innerground banners) and when you see him live, it’s obvious that behind the beaming smile the masterful DJ means business. Earlier this month, the drum & bass legend that is DJ Marky announced details of his debut solo album, My Heroes. Comprised of 17 tracks, the album, which is set to be released on his Innerground label on 15th June, will feature an array of his notorious d&b funk, Brazilian flair and his trademark interlaced groovy percussion. 

It's a bit of an understatement to say that a full length transmission from Marky has been a long time coming - especially when you consider the fact that he’s been transcending the world’s dancefloors for over 25 years now. So it seemed only right that the selector and those affiliated with him would mark this wondrous occasion with an eagerly awaited launch party right here in Room One on Friday 12th June. In the run up to release he's not only been kind enough to give his faithful fans an insight into the making of the album by releasing an exclusive documentary, drip feeding teaser episodes each week but he's also given us the opportunity to enjoy another brand new and exclusive mix that he's put together "with love" to help stoke the coals of anticipation...

Fusion 015 ft. Doc Scott X Outlook Festival Launch AUS/NZ Promo Mix

The last set of the week in our „first timers“ series comes from Bailey. It actually isn’t the set he played back in 2004 at the first official SUNANDBASS edition (although it had been recorded by Drum&Bass Arena for World of Drum&Bass - they might even have it in their archives). It’s Bailey’s interpretation of the SUNANDBASS classics, and it’s beautiful. 

Bailey is one of four artists that have played at every SUNANDBASS edition - the others are crew members ArpXP, Soulsurfer and Delicat. That’s what makes him an „all timer“ for us. He usually stays for the whole week plus some additional days before and after the festival. His B2B with A Sides (also known as Baysides) at La Posta in the town center starts and closes the week. It’s the first time in 17 summers we didn’t meet, at least we have this contribution from him. He is such a versatile DJ, always ready to go (hey B, we need a DJ and presenter over here…), and he can play across a wide ranges of styles suited to the situation. We’re lucky to have him as part of the core family!
