Here is a set I had a lot of fun putting together. Amapiano music has taken over the mainstream music space with a bang and it deserves this spot. With catchy percussion and rhythmic arrangement as well as hypnotising bass lines, it's hard not to move when the tunes come on. In an ode to this genre and to Afro house, the team at We are United have curated a new show dubbed 'Amapiano to Afrohouse' on BBC 1 xtra and BBC sounds app.

This is my set for the show. It's a mashup of the latest tunes from fire artists such as Kamo Mphela, Focalistic, as well as some old favourites from ThakzinDJ and kuduro bangers 'Pedicure' by Nadio Dance and much more.

Say it with us and roll your tongue: Roska. The much-respected producer and DJ has leisurely backstroked through currents in the UK by always doing things his own way.

"From my early days, my productions didn't just cater for one genre of music and still the same now," Roska tells THUMP.

Sometimes, in order to for an artist to pursue their musical vision, they'll need more than one outlet for their creativity. With each of those projects might come a different identity, a style and a sound that people can associate a name with. Rui Pité is one artist who's a prime example of a talent who's spread his music making capacities out across a number of different outlets. From his work with the award-winning Portuguese power house Buraka Som Sistema to his solo output as DJ Riot, Rui has been working tirelessly for almost ten years now. Both are representative of his heritage but while Buraka exudes more of that carnival, kudoro flavour, his work as DJ Riot fully delves into the octane territories of UK bass music.

We were fully excited to have Rui grace our haunt back in June when Buraka performed their stellar live show in Room One and we're just as eager for his upcoming debut in Room Two as DJ Riot so we fired over a few of our probing questions so we could offcially introduce him to you ahead of the event. Kampire x Worldwide Thing

Solid Steel (26th January) In Hour 1 this week it's a special mix celebrating 10 Years of Black Acre by Akira Kiteshi. Not only has music from the label featured heavily on Solid Steel over the years, we've had guest mixes from a number of their artists including Blue Daisy, Dark Sky, DJ Khalab,  Prayer and Clap!Clap! who won Mix of the Year in 2014. Label boss Ian Merchant had this to say;
'For our Ten Year retrospective I knew there was only one man who could steer the genres into a cohesive mix; the 'possibly' deceased beat-tape splicer Akira Kiteshi. I tracked him to his remote jungle hideout where he was forcibly shaved, washed and returned to the nearest studio. The result is the definitive clash of new & old flavours. I hope it adds some clarity as to what we are about as a label and shows some traceable bloodlines from 2007-now. Akira Kiteshi was released back into the wild after recording.'
