Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @motiv_a for its fifty eighth episode of Amplify Series.

Magdalena K., known by her moniker motiv-a, is an NYC-based DJ and producer. Since 2009, she has been working in visual art, sound, and live performance, appearing in clubs such as Bossa Nova Civic Club, Trans-Pecos, and Elsewhere, as well as Berlin's Ohm, Säule, and Tresor. She has also been a part of the sonic alchemy of event series such as VSSL in Los Angeles, Lost Souls Enterprises, and Synthicide in NY.

Inspired by esoteric human ritualistic practices and transgressive musick, her live hardware electronics and DJ sets summon forth a collection of weird electronics from transcendent darkwave, hypnotic techno and new beat, electronic body music rhythms, experimental noise and punk, to dystopian industrial and dark ambient.

Hello folks, after a short break on Soundcloud and some fulminant Blank Wave parties with Perel, Shubostar and Lauer, we're back again with a highly anticipated double feature: Welcome Andi, the New York City-based DJ and producer, who is also founder of the dark synth and industrial party and label, Synthicide. She contributed this marvellous exclusive mix for our Blank Wave series and is also playing her debut in Frankfurt on our event on Saturday, June 16 2023, at ono2 accompanied by Shia LaBiff. 

Andi now holds her ninth-year residency at Brooklyn’s notorious venue Bossa Nova Civic Club. Her aesthetic combines her devotion to underground 1980s industrial, EBM, new beat, and sleazy synth whose dark beats create an exciting soundscape that is unarguably danceable. She has DJed all over the world and is known in niche music circuits for her ability to mix together older tracks with new ones to create a diverse and unique set. Additionally, Andi is part of the ItaloMatic crew, a resident at The Lot Radio, and a resident DJ at the dark 80s new wave night, Music For the Masses.

Her own productions aim to challenge the expectations within the confines of the masculine EBM genre, often focusing on the ideas of revenge and strength through a woman’s perspective. Andi released her first EP, Corpse to Corpus, on aufnahme + wiedergabe in 2020, the Torque Force split EP with Randolph & Mortimer on Mecanica Records in 2021 and recently the EP Compelling Evidence on a+w. Now available for pre-order via Mannequin Records is her Parafernales EP feat. Machino.

Kimi Otsuka has a particular view on club music. Under her Faux Naïf alias she digs for records outside of the electronic spectrum, often championing the lesser known sounds of tropical goth, post punk and EBM. Her broad tastes in these genres mostly stems from the 80s, taking as much influence from British groups like The Cure and Cocteau Twins as she does any electronic producer.

Though still fairly niche within London, Otsuka supports these sounds on her 199radio show and through her own parties, with her most recent event headlined by body music artists SARIN and Parris Smith. On 24th March she makes her debut at the club alongside Sunil Sharpe and Ugandan Methods in Room Two, so she delivered a hard-hitting EBM mix to give an idea of what to expect on the night.

Celldöd, aka Anders Karlsson, has been releasing dirty electronic music since the late '80s, both small-run cassette tapes inspired by the DIY ethos of his post-punk background, and pristine vinyl editions.
