Overview
Jeff Mills’ “The Bells” is one of the most iconic tracks in techno history, often called the genre’s anthem. Known for its hypnotic bell melody, driving kick, and euphoric build, it became a staple in DJ sets worldwide. The track was first played live by Mills in 1995 (e.g., at Liquid Room in Tokyo), but it wasn’t officially released until 1997 as part of the Kat Moda EP on his Purpose Maker label. This EP is the original record pressing you’re asking about—no standalone “The Bells” single exists from that era. It has since been repressed multiple times due to massive demand (over 500,000 copies sold across versions).

Jeroen has been dj'ing since around '98 and picked up music production soon after. Since 2002 Jeroen teamed up with Bas Mooy and started the label Audio Assault as a platform for their own work and that of artists whose work they admire. About a year later sublabel Arms was born. In 2014 his own brand new imprint Radial Records sees the light of day with the release of Crux, the second full length Radial album.

Always driven to dive deeper Jeroen started a 4-year studies of Sonology at the Conservatory in The Hague, which he finished in 2006. This study deals with electronic music composition, computer programming, analog synthesis and electronic instrument design among other things. This is probably what kickstarted his interest to use self designed instruments in his music. The constant quest for new technological approaches is an imported factor that helped shape his sound. His current tendency toward analog hardware based methods also resulted in his involvement in the design and development of the Synton Fenix modular synthesizer.

Over the years the music of Jeroen Liebregts has found it's way to many places using different aliases (Radial, Museum, Finder, Sinecure). There have been releases of original tracks and remixes on labels such as Token, Perc Trax, Mote-Evolver, Numb, Drumcode, Planet Rhythm, Dole-Gate and most recently Mord and MDR.

For our 65th Podcast, we have a special gust coming all the way from Detroit Techno City!  Deeply rooted in the Detroit music scene, Ernie Guerra aka ERNO embodies the varied styles of music the city is known to produce. Dabbling in nothing and involved with everything, ERNO has been DJing and producing for over 15 years. His sets can be best described as disco and classic house having a love affair with techno, showcasing his love of over 4 decades of dance music. The backbone is funk but is adapted to modern dance music to create a continuous experience, psychedelic even. ERNO is a forefront member of Tour Detroit, the legendary summer party series that traveled to random venues each month. Also a record collector, he co-hosts a weekly 100% vinyl, crate digging night called Slow Jams, which is 12 years and running. We got to know him thru this Slow Jams mixes that he has been uploading to soundcloud, we are huge fan of his work and musical curation. It is an honor to guest him in our podcast series.
