Evidently a rather switched on guy from Bristol, Culprate’s been touring the world off the back of his dubstep infused music for some time now. Reportedly inspired by Caspa & Rusko’s FABRICLIVE mix, after crowd sourcing the money to make his debut album, Deliverance, Culprate’s also proved himself adept at making styles of music that isn’t really all that intended for dancefloors. He’s worked hard to open up his scope and his remit and that’s what makes him a rather interesting prospect. So ahead of his appearance in Room One this Friday (3rd April) we asked him to make us a mixtape that could perhaps reflect just a little piece of where his music tastes are at right now…

Technimatic & SP:MC Live @ Drum&BassArena 19 Years 24/05/15

With a combined history that expands over decades, Calyx & TeeBee’s discography is a journey which explores not only their own output, but the genre’s history. Having remixed commercial heavyweights such as Example, as well as underground tastemaker Tchami whilst blending genres and paying homage to their extensive craft, their experience is rivalled by none.

And yet again they continue their assault and return onto the scene with one of the most sought after tracks since its first play last year. Featuring the dancefloor genre talents of Doctor, who’s recently smashed his way onto the daytime radio airwaves, ‘Where We Go’ is a collaboration set to end the summer in spectacular style. 

An impressively innovative sonic piece of artwork, ‘Where We Go’ signifies another step towards the hugely anticipated ‘1X1’ LP. Crafting Doctor’s party-style vocals on top of an LFO-lead bassline and pounding drum patterns the first drop plummets you down a chasm so intricately constructed there’s no mistaking the duo’s signature production standard. One of the most epitomical moments from this year’s EDC, especially for representing drum & bass, there’s no mistaking the collective sigh of relief that it’s finally about to be unleashed.

Showcasing their impressive versatility, the flipside is just as impressive but a shade darker. ‘Ghost Writer’ utilises an imposing sample which sets up a break before smashing it down with pounding subs between a distorted bassline and elevated percussion. An early morning anthem which takes you in the murkiest corner of every club across the globe, it bares its teeth whilst propelling itself forward in a way which only Calyx & TeeBee can command.

Ahead of what will be a supreme cast of selectors heading down to Room Two for the FABRICLIVE leg of our 16th Birthday celebratory weekend, we’ve linked with one of the night’s pivotal participators, the ever prolific Logistics and asked him if he could lend us a hand fuelling the hype by putting together a brand new promo mix. The 70th SUNANDBASS Podcast comes from DJ, producer, and Spearhead label head BCee.

Having released over 100 tracks and remixes over 4 albums, and countless other releases since his debut in 2002, it’s fair to say that BCee has made a huge contribution to the Drum & Bass scene. 

Alongside this epic body of work, his label Spearhead continues to grow from strength to strength, having bought artists such as SPY, Technimatic, Hybrid Minds and LSB, amongst countless others to the fore. 

BCee brings something a bit special to this month’s SUNANDBASS Podcast, with a mix of only his music – whether his originals, remixes of his tracks or tracks that he has remixed. He had this to say about it: ‘I wanted to do something different so I’ve given you 90 minutes of tracks that I've produced / remixed / had remixed etc.  It's something that I've never done in 17 years of releasing music!’
