Fresh from his Interference EP, released earlier in the month on Tresor Records, and ahead of his return to the club in March as supporting act for Jeff Mills, we sat down with the zealous Glaswegian Vince Watson to discuss his fierce musicality, affinities with Tresor and diverse array of forthcoming projects.

Fossil Archive (aka Rob Kirkaldy) is a London-based Techno producer, DJ and Remixer. Considered to be one of the most exciting new U.K. Techno artists in recent years, he combines influences from Detroit and Amsterdam to create his own sound unique to the U.K.

As a DJ, he brings a special energy to the dance floor that is the product of many years of dedication to the craft. Never one to let an audience get bored, his sets explore many angles of techno, which has seen him play at some of the most well-respected clubs around the world, including FABRIC in London and both TRESOR and BERGHAIN in Berlin. 

His DJ skills have also made him a popular choice for podcasters, having been called upon to deliver mixes for esteemed shows like the CLR Podcast, Slam Radio, and Electric Deluxe.

With an already impressive discography, Fossil Archive has built his production credits with EPs on the likes of Rekids, Fachwerk, ARTS, Solar Phenomena, and Obscura, as well as a host of remixes for artists like Jamie Anderson, Roberto Clementi, DJ Rolando, and Shinedoe. His own tracks have been remixed by artists such as Steve Rachmad (Sterac), Mike Dehnert, Trevino, and Peverelist.

At the beginning of 2015, Fossil Archive launched its own Fossil Archive label. Predominantly a vinyl label (though releases are also available digitally), the ethos of the imprint is that it must not compromise on the sound.

Alexander Kowalski

Born in Greifswald, Germany, the first decisive direction for Alexander Kowalski was the move to Berlin with his family in the 1980s. He spent his formative years as teenager in the city where the fall of the wall and resulting chaotic and creative sense of freedom initiated a worldwide reputation that is today legendary.

Alexander was drawn to the buoyant Berlin techno scene that would spawn so many outstanding producers and DJs of his generation. Soon he was regularly buying the newest techno and house records from Detroit and Chicago at the Berlin record store Hard Wax, which opened in 1989 and become a focal point in the scene. Motivated by a coincidence, Alexander began a musical self-discovery although he was raised without learning to play a musical instrument or reading musical notes. He found a tracker software for the Amiga 500 on a floppy disk that also contained an editable demo file with primitive remixes of Depeche Mode songs. After a few playful attempts with the tracker, Alexander realized that he had found the potential to express himself creatively and refine his own musical language. Together with a friend he began to construct a home studio where he soon produced his first demos.

Il a passé ses années de formation à l'adolescence dans la ville où la chute du mur et le sentiment de liberté chaotique et créatif qui en a résulté ont initié une réputation mondiale aujourd'hui légendaire.

Alexander a été attiré par la scène techno berlinoise dynamique qui allait engendrer tant de producteurs et de DJ exceptionnels de sa génération. Bientôt, il acheta régulièrement les derniers disques techno et house de Detroit et de Chicago au magasin de disques berlinois Hard Wax, qui ouvrit en 1989 et devint un point central de la scène. Motivé par une coïncidence, Alexander a commencé une auto-découverte musicale bien qu'il ait été élevé sans apprendre à jouer d'un instrument de musique ou à lire des notes de musique. Il a trouvé un logiciel de suivi pour l'Amiga 500 sur une disquette qui contenait également un fichier de démonstration modifiable avec des remix primitifs de chansons de Depeche Mode.

Carrying well over seventeen years of love for techno and performing experience with him, Invite is one of Holland’s few true household names. A modest perfectionist at heart, he translates his passion and drive into outspoken and highly versatile DJ-sets. Whether it’s opening deep and warm,closing rough and edgy, a small crowd or large setting Invite treats every gig with the same amount of diligence and respect. When given carte blanche and an extended timeslot, something he much prefers, Invite is able to move a crowd like few others can.

His career has seen him perform at numerous events including  Awakenings, Time Warp, festivals such as Awakefest, Free Your Mind and venues like Trouw, Paradiso and Doornroosje, on multiple occasions alongside the likes of Surgeon, Dave Clarke, Ben Sims and Jeff Mills. Invite’s reach doesn’t stop at the border however; he has played in Germany, South-Korea, Russia, Croatia, Slovenia, Scotland, Czech Republic, Austria, Estonia, England, France and Belgium and is looking forward to a lot more traveling.

Early 2011 has also marked the launch of his own podcast series, dubbed Invite’s Choice. Aiming to provide international techno artists with a sixty-minute platform to think 100% out of the box and record a set without any musical limitations, it’s quickly become one of the best weekly podcasts out there.

Roberto - HATE Podcast 073

We’re getting pretty excited for this Saturday, with a host of Farringdon favourites and regulars set to join us across both rooms of the dance. One of these artists is Room Two regular Roberto, founder of the London-based techno imprint Fossil Archive. This week he put together a high-charged techno mix for us ahead of his return to the space, before filling us in on his release plans for the coming few months.

Roberto (real name: Rob Kirkaldy) is a London based Techno producer, DJ and Remixer. Considered to be one of the most exciting new UK Techno artists in recent years, he combines influences from Detroit to create his own sound unique to the UK.

Roman Lindau has been a main stay of the Berlin techno scene for many years, based in the home of European techno; he has become a regular on the circuit with his solo performances, and as part of the Fachwerk and Second State stable, performing at many of the label showcases across Europe. Roman’s DJ sets move seamlessly between the hard edged techno sound to raw house sounds, these are the sets that he has become synonymous for, and which have taken him around Europe and further a field over the past decade.

Here they are together at Tresor in June, closing the infamous Berlin club
