Silver, Splice and Prophecy make up Manchester’s finest, North Base. After cuts on Viper Recordings, Hospital Records, Shogun Audio, New State Music, and more, they return to hometown imprint Nemesis Recordings for the release of the Waiting EP, six booming and blasting tunes which are sure to rock their way through 2016 and beyond.
After a succession of remixes for Ms Dynamite, Laidback Luke, SL2 and others, North Base have been supported by the likes of Skrilliex, Sub Focus, MistaJam and Matrix & Futurebound to name a few. Diverse and high quality throughout, the Waiting EP is set to stun.
Down System leads things off, warming things off with an ominous, creeping intro and tougher than leather electronic kicks. Fans old and new will appreciate the sound of this one, as it makes the perfect start to this dynamic EP. Next is Now We’re Talkin, which continues the vibe, with some nice keyboard melodies flowing over the top of the drums. Taking cues from influences like Daft Punk and Andy C, this one firmly has the North Base Stamp all over it.
How Do I Know is the third track, which take a more contemplative and soulful path, with mournful female vocals flowing over a rolling break. Something for all the liquid soldiers out there, this one is really something special. Strings and chords move in and out of the mix, resulting in a track of perfect balance and emotion. Get locked into Blurred Vision, which draws in elements of the old skool rave sound to give the EP yet another direction. Building up nicely to a smooth main section, this one shows off the boys’ dedication to and knowledge of the music.
Ear Pressure turns things towards the dark side once again, with some seriously heavy bass and vibrating effects. Convulsing, heavyweight basslines run up and down this one, instructing you to move your body and get involved. Closer Inflatable Skies sums things up perfectly, with floating electronics and street-ready beats blended to create something quite beautiful.

To open the release Nu Venture Records welcome back Polish Drum & Bass producer Rafau Etamski. Push For Love is a vocal Liquid Drum & Bass track featuring; emotive strings and harmonic piano chords, expertly composed alongside addictive sentimental male vocals all combined with a deep mellow bass line and flowing drums to finish off this melodic masterpiece.

[B] SND - Foresight:
The second track sees the return of SND, another Artist well known to Nu Venture Records, having just released his Minimal EP Forbidden. Presenting his latest production Foresight he continues in his trademark prominent bass style. Foresight is a emotional Liquid Drum & Bass track consisting of soft piano notes, atmospheric strings and uplifting synth work. United together with soft and soothing female vocals and a deep and warm bass line to complete this monumental release.

Living in the UK, you quickly learn that you can't trust the weather to indicate the arrival of summer. For DnB heads, though, there's a far more reliable signal to gear up for festival and holiday season. And now it's here. Yes, Technique's Summer 2017 LP has dropped, and it's done so with Richter-troubling force.

For a start off, it's a monumental fifty-one tracks deep (with two continuous mixes from Muffler thrown in for good measure) featuring contributions from all corners of the drum 'n' bass scene. For example, Viper bosses Matrix & Futurebound pass through, with the insane 8-bit video game riffs of “Scatterbrain”. Brookes Brothers deliver the stripped-back R&B-flavoured “Good to Me”. Invaderz underpin jazz keys with rolling beats in “Gruisin”. And, who would have predicted the appearance of two cuts from the mighty Aquasky?

Plus, of course, the regular Technique roster are out in force. New signings T-Phonic & Deadman give us an instant-classic junglist workout, complete with thundering breaks and savage Reese bass. Drum & bass pioneer and Hospital Record’s crown jewel Danny Byrd is back! He’s set 2018 ablaze with monolith anthems ‘Devil’s Drop’, ‘Salute’ ft MC GQ and ‘Hold Up The Crown’ ft Ky Lenz, now he proudly presents his first album in five years, ‘Atomic Funk’.

A 15-track funk-fuelled compendium of rolling dancefloor-fillers that tributes to the jungle foundation moulding his early discography. Collaborations with the likes of I-Kay, Maduk, Ownglow, Times x Two and MC GQ, fuse with powerful doses of Danny’s hip-hop and R&B infused 174BPM productions. ‘Atomic Funk’ is undoubtedly Mr Byrd’s finest work to date and includes one of the biggest future D+B anthems ‘Holy Star’ that’s brought to life with vocal delights from MC Foxy.

‘Just A Step Away’ (ft. Ownglow) has become a silver bullet for the Byrd, taking a spotlight in his DJ sets as his finishing move. With its gorgeous vocals, volatile rave synths and humming sub-bass, it’s not hard to see why. However, that’s far from the only weapon in this legend’s locker. ‘Roll The Drums’ is a certified sub shaker bringing a fierce bassline and thundering percussion, plus there’s raw jungle madness with ‘In The Meantime’ (ft. Hannah Symons).

With fifteen incredible tracks from Hospital Records’ longest standing signing, ‘Atomic Funk’ is Danny Byrd at his best. Crafted for the dancefloor and feel-good from start to finish, a must-have for any true Hospital fan.
