Friends come first, so to speak. We hold the words of those we hold dearly as gospel, and this EP mirrors that feeling.
After his last release "One" on Room With A View (w/ Detroit Swindle remix) and several contributions to labels like MCDE, Endless Flight or together as Creative Swing Alliance on Wolf Music, Tsuba & City Fly - FACES Records & MCDE labels head honcho Pablo Valentino decide to release what he describes as his first full EP on his own imprint FACES.

"Friends Say So" is a nicely stripped down filter-jam; you don't need much when all the elements are good like this: a haunting female vocal sample, gritty lo-fi beats, a disco loop. Reminiscent of early Shake or the very first Sneak records, this beauty will definatly set the floor on fire.
 
"What Does It Take" sounds like a straight up Shelter anthem from '92 that just got unearthed. Heavy on the 909 and Juno keys, its the kind of late night jam that leaves everybody with a smile on their face. 

On the B-side, "Nuff Thangs" opens up things nicely; lush keys on top of a disco sample set the mood for things to come with "Can't You See", a female diva singing her ass off over dirty-as-hell MPC beats and rhodes stabs. You cant go wrong with this package!

Kicking off the EP is the salaciously titled ‘Late Night Remedy’. Crowd noises interspersed with drum breaks and funky bass it definitely has a live feel – further emphasised with a female intermittently hollering from the crowd ‘See what you think about this girl’ juxtaposing with a typically de riguer soul vox exclaiming ‘Come on girl’. Complete with a cheeky motown sample from The Undisputed Truth and the track wouldn’t sound out of place on an old KDJ 12” – a funk-fuelled nocturnal jam that needs to be rinsed on the dancefloor…

Since his initial releases in the late-nineties on fellow kindred spirit Moodymann’s KDJ imprint, producer du jour Andres has been an influential figure in the Detroit house scene. His unique blending of genres including soul, jazz, funk and disco with the house sounds synonymous with Detroit gained him a cult following in underground circles. It wasn’t until his eponymously-titled LP’s were released on Moodymann’s Mahogani imprint that more heads took notice – with the launch of his ‘La Vida’ label last year cementing his position as a house heavyweight with ‘Second Time Around’ and ‘New For U’ a permanent fixture in many a discernible DJ’s set. On to the remix and Andres keeps the dusty vox and typically drenches the track with his brand of motor city soul. Coming complete with warm bass and swooping strings, his interpretation as ever has a timeless aesthetic and creates an organic laissez-faire vibe that’s perfect to soak up and kick back to – a pure summer joint…

It seems like we've been waiting an eternity for this mysterious 10" label to kick off. Having some kind of links to the Firecracker crew and Cottam, the label will use its anonymity to release off-centre and leftfield joints from some big heads in the deep house world. "People Of Earth" excitedly gets things underway and is a lush, soulful, deep house number done in that exquisitely dreamy, New York style with big chords, flanging pads and delicate female vocals. Beautiful. "Trouble In Space" on the B-side completely flips the script and is a gritty, lo-fi beatdown number heavy on the Theo Parrish and Detroit influences (leaving me to wonder just who is behind this particular record). The analogue synth work in the track is nothing short of spectacular with rhythmic drones colliding with metallic pulses and tearing pads. Elements of Fly-lo, Kyle Hall, Urban Tribe, Darkstar and almost undeniably Theo Parrish drum groove send my speculation levels through the roof. Unveil yourself oh magnificent producer! Limited and big therefore ya better move quick!

Future In Sound kicked off its own network "Listen & Discover" bringing music from ONLY underground/upcoming artists and labels from all around the place.

In addition to that, FISR will be on Vinyl! FISR 011 is one hell of a package. Following some Detroit, Electronica, Tech, more Electronica and some Minimal Techno (hailing from Germany of course), we land right back into the house of House, with some French summer loving vibes by the talented Florian Muller Project. 

Controlling and developing the atmosphere with ease while creating an engaging and positive feeling through his music may be a way to describe Florian Muller' sounds. Working the bassline, brought along by a rhythmic flowing with superb fluidity, Viens A Moi Et Brule Mon Ame (Come To Me and Burn My Soul) is a masterpiece. Constantly progressing, this track showcases the intense feeling of Love.
