LUST Series #43 Ben Reymann

For this first podcast of the series i recorded liberation through rythm.

The approach was to keep it very minimalistic and keep the emphasis on the continuing groove. 

The opening is a bit slower and lower in intensity with more elements that bring you back to the origins of rythms. These tribal sounds go back to the very roots of where music began. 

Later in the set the momentum starts building and more hypnotic elements are added. The rythm keeps flowing as the foundation of this set.

For this new podcast i tried to create the ambience of the start of the night. At the beginning of a night the tempo and intensity is lower.

I opened the set a little slower with some ambient and moved that in to some breakbeat and low intensity tracks. The momentum keeps building as the music keeps playing.

Lower bpm’s don’t have to feel slow. If you implement the right drive and intensity it doesn’t feel slow. When playing lower bpm’s there is more room for interesting layers without overcrowding the mix.

Set the Mood with DJ Flauwe Krul!

For this mix, I've invited DJ Flauwe Krul to create an openingsset in her unique style. Her favorite moments in nightlife have been those unexpected encounters when she stumbled upon a DJ she wasn't initially there for and was pleasantly surprised by their music. These experiences have deeply influenced her approach to crafting an opening set. For DJ Flauwe Krul, the opening set is a moment to introduce yourself to the audience, setting the tone for the night while showcasing your artistic vision. It's also, in her opinion, the perfect time for experimentation and pushing boundaries.

This adventurous spirit is fully reflected in her set: she swiftly switches between genres without losing the listener's attention. On the contrary, her dynamic transitions keep the listener engaged and eager for what's next. Starting with soothing ambient sounds, she gradually builds the energy, transitioning from breakbeat to house, and from dub techno to trance. Each genre switch is seamless, surprising, and taking the audience on an exhilarating musical journey.

DJ Flauwe Krul’s style is a fascinating fusion of minimalism and maximalism. She often delves into the depths of electro, leaning towards the darker, more mysterious side of the subgenre. On the flip side, she also enjoys the brighter, more playful, and energetic sounds of ghetto house. This stark contrast between styles is a hallmark of her sets, and it's what makes her performances so unique and engaging. The interplay between the dark and light elements in her music is, for me, very exciting to listen to.
