Growing up in the bustling port city of Busan and running his own record shop there from the late ‘70s, Kim Byoung Duk had a front-row seat to th​e finest in foreign record imports and a taste for the psychedelic that naturally evolved into spiritual, ambient and avant-garde sounds. His growing interest in Tao philosophy and the meditative music that accompanied it provided a fertile environment for his audio imagination. Unhampered by limited access to musical gear, he made use of a wide assortment of self-sourced pots of various sizes and curvature, cymbals, wooden sculpted flutes and percussion tools—each chosen for its unique harmonic vibration—to create an entirely new and unique body of work. 
 
Experiment No. X retraces the oeuvre of Kim Byoung Duk, assembling tracks from Experiment No. 2, Pot Concerto and New Trilogy, illustrating a meditative journey from the freeness of the Tao sound, in the borders of ambient music and the avant-garde, to later groove-oriented jams which introduce rhythmic elements to the palate.
 
This fully licensed release is the first collection of Kim Byoung Duk's music, remastered from the original tapes and including for the first time on vinyl songs from the very scarce CD New Morning. Includes four-page booklet with photographs and an interview from Kim's personal archives.

A lost ambient cosmic gem from Liquid Liquid founding member Dennis Young is getting a long-overdue vinyl reissue! 

Young, the percussionist and marimba player in the seminal New York art-wave group, recorded a series of cassette-only releases in the '80s after Liquid Liquid disbanded. A couple of these were picked up at the time for Korean release, which is where Daehan Electronics, a South Korea-based label dedicated to tracing the history of electronic music in the land of the morning calm, comes in.

Quest was one of these albums, part of a biorithmically-aligned New Age serie, each album meant to be heard on specific days of the week. DE has worked with Young to restore and remaster the original masters for this new release, bringing out the full warmth of the analog synthesizers used to create it. It is the first in a series of projected collaborations with Young, which will delve deeply into both the scarce cassette issues and other, unreleased material newly discovered on forgotten tapes. 

Liner notes outline the history of the record and include Young's own look back at the making of Quest.

WRWTFWW Records is deliriously happy to announce the reissue of the 1981 self-titled album from cult Japanese duo Colored Music, available on vinyl (housed in a Stoughton tip-on sleeve) and digipack CD, with liner notes by digger, curator, connoisseur, writer and legend Chee Shimizu. 

An incredible mix of cosmic new wave, unconventional disco, avant-garde synth pop, and hybrid electronic funk, Colored Music is enchantingly unique, a sort of experimental and magnetizing take on David Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy with a psychedelic Haruomi Hosono touch. From the groovy post-punk glam title track to the proto-house dance floor killer "Heartbeat", Ichiko Hashimoto and Atsuo Fujimoto hit all the right (and sometimes not-exactly-right-but-truly-genius) notes to create the odd and beautiful, an unparalleled audio escape to the best elsewhere you can think of. 

Also playing on the album are celebrated musicians Mansaku Kimura, Shuichi “Ponta” Murakami (Pacific, KI-Motion by MKWAJU ensemble, collaborations with Jun Fukamachi, Yasuaki Shimizu, Haruomi Hosono…) Kiyohiko Semba, Tamio "Doyo" Kawabata, and Tatsuhiko Hizawa.

London based artist Doppelate is next up on X-Kalay and debuts on the label with a four tracker of Detroit house inspired club tracks. Having initially caught our attention with his records for our friends over at Lets Go Swimming we’re super excited to provide the platform for his next release. 

From the languid sleaze of the sawtooth bassline on “I Can’t Get You Out of my Head” to the pin point congas and rainforest vocal shots on “Johnny Longneck”; the A side is a functional and groovy affair, stripped back to the essentials in typical Doppelate fashion.

The B side takes a slightly more playful approach - Pila Pala Kisses utilizing looped pianos and some tongue in cheek percussion work before turning out a beautifully mesmerizing melody. “Club Canyon” closes things out in more understated tones; crisp hats skip over the lazy staccato bass whilst the dreamy pads induce an all too welcome state of haze… Play this one in the sun!

For those in London – we’ll be holding a release party at The Alibi in Dalston on the 10th August, hope to see some of you there.

We are "CYK TOKYO",house music collective, playing B2B all together, making party with overseas artists, of course from Tokyo!

Everyone each has their own favorite artists, naturally we had come to go to club, so it was meant to be that we've met.

How would you describe the electronic music scene in your city?
Tokyo has many legendary DJs, but young generations guys liven up local scene, make the music and organize some party like us!

Who and/or what inspires you?

Mainly we are influenced by artists who play together in our party.
We book some DJs from around the world, so it follows that we are inspired from all over the world!

Ladies and gentlemen, I have discovered an old hard drive with some of my old mixes, and I found them all in FLAC! Among these is an entire "liftmuziek" collection of volumes, which was the very first podcast I ran more than a decade ago (way before Headphone Commute was even born). These will be released, one at a time, on here, so watch this space for some amazing classic electronic music circa 2006! But before the unveiling, I figured I'd publish yet another beautiful selection that I dug out from the archive. This mix was made to celebrate two Native State albums from Rena Jones and Shen, which I put together to promote an event at an art gallery in Chicago. I hope you enjoy!

https://soundcloud.com/theghost are Josh Tweek and James Creed, the DJ duo behind Berlin’s first mobile record shop.  Combining over 15 years of experience in varied corners of dance music - most significantly, the vinyl corner, their history of feverishly sourcing obscure tunes has blossomed into a full-time job.

The vintage Mercedes bus-turned-shop takes them just a short distance around Berlin, feeding the voracious appetites of the city’s most discerning taste-makers and DJs. The musical journey contained therein is a much longer road, exploring three decades of house, techno and various other strains of underground electronic music. The end-product is a couple of ultra-refined record bags, traversing genres and styles with a zesty and unique approach - demonstrated seamlessly throughout this offering for our mix series.

You'll catch the duo at the final outing at the fort for Dimensions 2019.

The recording of my set last weekend at Rafelrandje, a rave organised by De Fik! Thanks for having me guys, what a great day it was! I played a 2 hour sundown set from 16:00 till 18:00 with which I turned the day into the night. Hope you like it!
