An upbeat, lively rockabilly type piece featuring a melody played by a somewhat clean twangy Fender Telecaster. The song begins with 4 bars of double-time drums, with a fill on the 4th bar and a bass guitar sliding on a high note down to the tonic at the first beat of bar 5. The Telecaster also does a 2 note pickup on the 4th beat leading into bar 5. The tune starts with 2 rounds of the chorus, instead of the verse as most songs do. A Fender Stratocaster plays rhythm chords strumming throughout the choruses. A distorted Gibson Les Paul enters the 2nd time through the chorus, playing a similar lead melody an octave higher than the Telecaster. The keyboards also enter here, with a Hammond organ sound laying a bed, with little flourishes at the end of the guitars' melody figures. After the 2nd chorus, the song enters verse 1 in a mellower mood, with the drums no longer in double time. The guitar and organ play soft arpeggiated patterns while the keyboards play the lead melody, with a bright brass section sound utilizing both studio horns and Mellotron horn sections. The organ also plays this same figure, creating a layered texture. Half way through the verse, a bright piano takes over the melody role from the horns, and the Twangy Telecaster returns in the final 2 bars to lead the tune back into the faster chorus. The chorus is played two times through once again, only this time leading into a "middle eight" or "bridge" section featuring heavily distorted Fender guitars panned left and right, playing an aggressive, jagged metal type riff. Half-way through this the Hammond organ sound plays a high melody, with a Leslie rotating speaker effect, giving it a screaming sound. The 4th time through the organ drops out and the lead is taken over by a heavy sounding Les Paul guitar playing a whirling serious of fast-picked and hammered 16th and 32nd note ascending patterns, climaxing into the highest note which then dives down like a missile via the whammy bar. The song returns to 2 more choruses with similar instrumentation as before. It then plays the chorus in a new key one time through, and then another key for the next go-round. This time features the brass section adding little blasts here and there for emphasis. Finally working it's way back to the original key, the chorus is repeated one final time, with the lead melody shifting up an octave and finishing with a cadenza-like ornamented version of the melody, before doing a ritardando down to 4 final descending chords landing on the tonic.

An interesting feature of the song is the chordal pattern consisting 6 chords going from D to A, C to G, then unexpectedly, Bb to F, ending on C. It then does the exact same pattern, only beginning with C to G, Bb to F, Ab to Eb to Bb. Then it repeats for the 2nd chorus. Another treat for the listener is during the final section it plays the whole pattern beginning with Bb to F, Ab to Eb, Gb to Ab, then the pattern begins again starting on Ab to Eb, Gb to Db, E to B to Gb. Continuing the cycle, it goes Gb to Db, E to B, D to A to E, then E to B, D to A, C to G to D. At this point it has returned to the original first chord, D, where it plays the chorus one final time in it's original key. The listener is now aware that the entire chord progression has worked its way logically through a cycle of 4 key changes before landing naturally back to the beginning, essentially creating a circular chord progression.
