At the helm of his beloved label, Marsman preaches the ‘Pinkman sound’ to congregations of devoted followers. Holding court for over ten years now, he released more than 100 records and hosted countless club nights all over the world.

With over 15 years behind the decks, and the breathless release schedule he orchestrates for Pinkman and its subsidiary labels - Mindri, Broken Dreams & Charlois - Marsman has become a central figure in a close-knit scene of rough-around-the-edges DIY dance music.
Marsman’s DJing can ride through uplifting synths and thunderous drum patterns that are equally suited to dark, sweat-drenched basements and cavernous industrial warehouses. But dig beneath the dirt and there’s brightness to be found, with a glossy Italo sheen never far from Marsman’s selections.

Keeping clubrooms locked into groove for hours on end by meticulously building atmospheres of unease, he can pierce the tension whenever he feels the time is right with moments of hands-in-the-air euphoria. Combining euphoric disco and wave with darker, harder sounds is a trademark move from one of Rotterdam’s finest exports.

And he’s done it at all the best spots the Netherlands has to offer, with appearances at Dekmantel, Garage Noord, Pip, Drift Festival and Intergalactic FM. Further afield, he played at renowned international clubs like Panorama Bar, Tresor, Khidi and FOLD.

Beyond all this, he’s a founding member of cherished radio station Operator, and previously ran the sorely missed Pinkman record store in the heart of Rotterdam’s creative Schieblock, giving Marsman a well-deserved cult hero status for independent music in the harbour city and far, far beyond.

Mlehst is an English composer and noise musician, who creates bizarre soundscapes which are both surreal and powerfully emotive. Mlehst was started in 1991 and continues to the present working between genres. Mixing electronics, field recordings and acoustic sound heavily influenced by the original Musique concrete artists and modern classical composers. Currently, Mlehst is working in the realm of deconstructing house and dance music to form his unusual compositions.
Main influences: Christian Zanesi, Bernard Parmeginani, Luc Ferrari, Pierre Henry, Hafler trio, Nurse with Wound, Roger Doyle, John Wall and more.

 On this episode of F.B.I. Pathology Report we explore the case of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain. 

 A volatile relationship that led to a miscarriage after he punched her in the stomach during an argument and then the infamous event of the 10th of April, 1955.
On a "fateful' Easter Sunday,  Ruth Ellis, then known as a nightclub hostess, fatally shot David Blakely outside Magdala pub in Hampstead, north London.

 Enormous evidence against Ellis was held, though the public and press campaigned for granting an amnesty to her, due to her good reputation as a mother. 
Despite the massive efforts, she eventually got sentenced to death by hanging.
On July 13, the hangman Albert Pierrepoint and his assistant entered her cell and took her to the adjacent execution room where she was hanged. Remains of executed women at Holloway were exhumed for reburial elsewhere. Particularly, her remains were reburied in the churchyard of St. Mary's Church in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, 4.8 kilometers from where Blakely was buried.

 The evocative intense of attention Ruth's case caused on press and public, (as) a widespread controversy at the time, reached to the point to be discussed by the Cabinet. 
She was the last woman ever to be executed in Britain. An infamous event which from one's perspective, ironically as well as allegorically, so to say, could bear a resemblance to the apocryphal myth of Judith and Holofernes.

A DJ originally from Zaporizhzhia, whose musical career began on the Kyiv scene. Co-organizer of the Hybrid Moment party series, which explores the dark side of electronic music, and curator of the Inner Voyage show on 20ft, aimed at creating a platform for artists and DJs to experiment with various downtempo genres.

Inspired by post-punk, trip-hop, and ambient music, with a background as a nu-disco and synth-pop artist, Béllis deeply explores the melodies of dark disco and EBM, the dark side of indie dance, complemented by acid and electro motifs.

Her selection is a symbiosis of powerful synth parts, ethnic motifs, and elusive vocal elements. According to the DJ, this combination creates a sense of immersion, making the experience for her and the people on the dance floor more intimate and profound.Valera crafts eccentric dance experiences with a distinct tone. This mix is a collection of organic sounds, guitar, violin, cello and especially voice. I’ve included a few demos I’ve been working on with just guitar and voice with my friend Ilyas Ahmed which will be released on Geographic North in October. Here you will also hear some music from Ulla and Perila who just released an album on my label Paralaxe Editions. They used the floor as a studio to create some beautiful ambient jazz. An architect of textured, neo-ambient soundscapes, Dania explores both sound and identity, focusing specifically on how the latter has fractured in a post-colonial world. Born in Baghdad, raised in Tasmania and now based in Barcelona, she moves between cultures and continents, her amorphous creative vision directly tied to her transient existence. 

The founder of experimental platform Paralaxe Editions, Dania divides her time between Spain and the remote corners of Australia, where she works as an emergency doctor. Her musical practice, however, is preoccupied with harmonics and tonality, weaving together manipulated vocal fragments, processed field recordings and meditative atmospheres.

I am informally referring to this mixtape as Colla Voce, or 'with the voice' in Italian. This is a nod to the instruction often seen in European classical vocal music, where an instrumentalist is instructed to simply follow the voice. It is also a nod to my most recent album, COLLA VOCE, which has a track that can be heard on this mixtape (OXYGEN). To narrow my admiration for this instrument down to an hour is an insurmountable task, but nonetheless, here are some of my favorite pieces of music using the voice in one way or another. All of these artists are active, and I  encourage you to explore their powerful bodies of work.

Nick Dunston is an acoustic and electroacoustic composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist. Called an “indispensable player on the New York avant-garde” (New York Times), his performances have spanned a variety of venues and festivals across North America and Europe. His work explores notions of ancestral memory, materiality, embodiment, decolonization, and Afro-surrealism. As a collaborator he has worked with artists such as Marc Ribot, Ches Smith, Vijay Iyer, Mary Halvorson, Tyshawn Sorey, Moor Mother, JACK Quartet, Son Lux, Ingrid Laubrock, Wet Ink Ensemble, Craig Taborn, Dave Douglas, Allison Miller, Wendy Eisenberg, Lotte Anker, Darius Jones, Mette Rasmussen, Elliott Sharp, Sofia Jernberg, Jim Black, Achim Kaufmann, Lucrecia Dalt, Joy Guidry, Imani Uzuri, Anna Webber, and Amirtha Kidambi. In addition to seven albums released under his name, as a composer Dunston has been commissioned by artists and organizations such as Wet Ink Ensemble, Bang on a Can, JACK Quartet, A L’ARME! Festival, Ex-Aequo, Bass Players for Black Composers, Tenth Intervention, Johnny Gandelsman, T R O M P O, Gaudeamus Festival, PULSE String Quartet, and Ekmeles. In 2019 he was awarded the Van Lier Fellowship by Roulette, which supported the creation of the trans-media song cycle La Operación, the double bass quintet piece The Floor is Lava!, and his debut studio album, Atlantic Extraction, which was referred to as “the debut of 2019” (JazzTimes Magazine). In 2020 in collaboration with Dogbotic Labs, he co-created “Ear Re-training”, a music composition course focusing on media-bending experimental techniques and concepts.

Hannya Danielle Torres, aka Negraconda
From Guadalajara, Jalisco, here to transform your mind. DJ and producer under the NACA WORLDWIDE label, of which she is also the founder. Her sound is born from the club and Latin vibes, but this artist knows no boundaries. In her sets, you can hear everything from wild, jungle-inspired tech house to house jazz, hard Latin club, gabber techno, rkt, reggaeton, cumbia, salsa, and more. Always maintaining her unique essence, her mixes transcend limits, with musical references that range from protest to orchestra.

As a multidisciplinary artist, Negraconda also specializes in performance and essential arts. She is a pioneer of the ballroom and drag queen community in Guadalajara, Jalisco. A trans woman, brown-skinned, from the barrio, activist and “hartivist” for the rights of trans people and LGBTIQA+ dissidents, she is also a sensitizer and educator on trans/LGBTIQA+ experiences.

NegraConda is a key figure in the LGBTIQA+ scene and a crucial part of the history of struggle and resistance in Guadalajara. Recognized by the city as a cultural and artistic reference, she is an icon of the country’s underground and dissident scene. Through her work, she has also been a creator of safe spaces for the development and expression of diverse identities.
