Ambient  & Experimental winter/spring 2024

During this Summer's sonic-seance at our Lisbon home, Planeta Manas, we revisited the history of seances, and with both a critical and curious eye, researched the technologies and beliefs behind these sessions attempting to communicate with the spirits. We sat and laid down together, guided by the live guitar drones of local musician, BLEID, who conjured ghastly shadows into our presence - including a police raid who invaded the space during her live set - and yet, her precise sonic guidance appeased the spirits and maintained everyone tight through a soporific night journey.

Combining traditional instrumentation and drone synths, BLEID creates endless waves, slowly growing and decreasing in a timeless continuum, overlaying sounds to breaking point, collapsing into themselves just to arrive at a familiar yet new destination every time.

We recommend good speakers that allow the reverberation to be felt in your body, or headphones accompanied with some tea. Allow yourself to drift away with these textured, haunted but soothing vibrations.

"For this inaugural edition of Temple, another new adventure alongside Josephine, I approached the set in a natural way, with only a few secure tracks and others chosen from many I've selected over months but haven't played for one reason or another. Given the volume of music circulating nowadays, my premise is mostly not to repeat them, a manifestly failed attempt to give visibility to so many creative and talented agents.

Horizontal listening events are my favorites. If we add that they are among familiar and new faces, it is in these moments where we can unleash our imagination without complexes and in a comfortable environment. If, in addition, it is playing at home, as is the case at Espacio Perpendicular, the result is perfect.

In each performance, she skillfully mix a harmonious fusion of tribal rhythms, dub, ambient, down-tempo, mid-tempo and electronica. In her musical exploration, Melina is not merely a performer; she becomes a storyteller, guiding listeners through a sonic journey that resonates with emotions, symbols, and Groove. The immersive nature of her sets invites the audience to transcend the ordinary, embracing a transformative experience that engaging in an immersive experience that leaves a lasting impact beyond the performance. Wouldn't be right as we approach the 30 mark to not have a bit of braindance from our 2nd birthday party with the mighty Rephlex Records and who better for that to be than the ever prolific Aleksi Perälä. I had the pleasure of getting blind drunk on Koskenkorva with Aleksi the night before in my flat in Hackney where he was staying, the guy is such a funny and quality dude but the hangover was savage ngl.

Despite the 'will he, won't he?' online speculation of whether afx was playing or not (the line-up remained secret until the day) this was another wicked party with 7 live sets in the main room along with a DJ Rephlex Records DJ set. A logistical nightmare to execute but well worth it! Hopefully more of these sets will appear in the future within this archive.

Presented here is Antenes set recorded live on Sunday February 9th, 2020 in Brooklyn NY.

She is a New York-based DJ, producer and electronics artist that operates a laboratory of self-made sequencers and synthesizers using vintage telephone equipment. Known for her inventive soundscapes and eclectic vinyl DJ sets. She dives into acid-laced techno, shimmering electro, shadowy atmospheres and beyond, with a particular ear for odd percussions and syncopations. Her releases on LIES, The Bunker New York and Silent Season showcase her talented and unique approach to music making.
