Pat Grossi is Active Child. Blessed with a celestial falsetto and plenty of talent, the LA-based musician recently released his Rapor EP on Vagrant Records. A stunning selection featuring Mikky Ekko and Ellie Goulding, giving it a listen is highly recommended. Falling hard and fast for his voice, we asked Grossi for a Slumber Session and boy did we get one. Press play and float away. Something magic this way comes.

"I took Melatonin recently for the first time. I had just traveled to the other side of the world from London to Sydney and my body was having trouble figuring out when exactly it should shut down. I was unaware at the time that melatonin dramatically increases REM sleep time and dream activity in most people. And that the drug acts on the same areas of the brain as many hallucinogenic drugs. So, my dreams that night were some of the most vivid I have ever experienced. Most of the night I was careening through the Grand Canyon on an elevated bullet train, or some sort of equivalent. I walked from car to car on the train, each room changing in style and detail, from futuristic modern to decrepit subway. Outside the walls of the canyon morphed in color and shape and danced in the light from above. At moments they were covered with primitive drawings of buffalo and deer and at other times the bold lines and colors of street graffiti. Never once did I see another person. The floor below was made of glass and the emerald green of the water was so intense I can remember reaching out to touch it at one point. Eventually the train morphed into something completely different and my dream changed dramatically and suddenly as they always do, but I cant remember where I went next."

It’s only 40 minutes long but captures the poolside vibe perfectly and has some of our favorite jams that might never make it on another mix on it. Terry Francis first played the club on our launch night in 1999, and he’s been back to play hundreds of times since then.

As one of our two residents, for the last 17 years alongside Craig Richards he’s been at the very core of our Saturday night programming. Alongside our longstanding in-house team, it’s Terry and Craig who’ve helped shape our musical philosophy since the beginning. 

This is part of what made the Saturday night of last month’s reopening weekend so special. Following on from Stephane Ghenacia’s on point warm-up set with Room One already popping, Terry Francis stepped up to deliver what we can confidently say was one of the most compelling sets we’ve witnessed, ever. As we’re still looking back on this session fondly several weeks on, today we feel proud to unlock it from the archives for everyone to hear.

Barcelona 2001.The police had left us to it on the beach for Sant Joan (festival of fire). Soundsystems lined the shore, but we'd managed to smuggle down a function 1 and were having the best of it. My cousin Digs (DiY) dropped into play. The house groove rolled on. At dawn we moved inside to a warehouse nearby. And from the there it was back to Dave's place. Not sure who Dave was, but he had a nice roof terrace. So I dug around in the record box trying to find dubs, edits or B sides to suit the rising sun. A few weeks later, someone gave me a tape of it. Apparently Dave had got himself organised with the C60s. So here it is. A rambling soundtrack to a hazy morning.

On April 29th Andy released 'Times and Places'. Over the last 15 years he has been writing this album on the road on tour with GA. From Airport Lounges / Hotel Rooms / Planes / Trains and an array of tour buses. The last two years saw Andy edit all these ideas into one beautiful album. Released through the legendary Apollo Records and R&S Records, on digital and limited edition hardback CD book. There will also be a cheeky vinyl announcement on the way but more of that to come. This is Groove Armada history.
