11 samples created from looping short sections taken from a pre-existing piece entitled 'Narrative' [ https://soundcloud.com/xiiixxi/narrative ]. The volume of each continuously sounding loop is auto-faded in and out using a pair of linked oscillators in addition to being shaped to bring each to the front once at least once throughout the duration of the piece.

The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Please note: While this project is the start of a three-part sequence that will unfold over the course of three consecutive weeks, you can participate in any or all three of those parts. 

Step 1: This week’s Junto project is the first in a sequence intended to encourage and reward collaboration. You will be recording something with the understanding that it will remain unfinished for the time being. Your part will be done, but more will happen. Read on.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music using any instrumentation of your choice. Conceive the piece as something that leaves room for something else — other instruments, other people — to join in. (Keep in mind that your piece resulting from this week’s project will be panned to the left in the second and third weeks of this sequence.)

Step 3: Record a short piece of music, roughly two to three minutes in length, as described in Step 2. 

Step 4: This is important: be sure to make your track downloadable because it may be used by someone else in the next Disquiet Junto project, and the one after that.

I wanted to create something simple and circular that could stand alone for this first part of the @disquiet trio project. Using the Silver Age piano preset on Logic Pro with no effects, I repeat the note sequence D, G, D, A, F# eight times, sometimes letting the D and A overlap. There is no bpm to this and the only alterations I made when listening to this several times after recording this sequence, was to reduce the velocity on many of the notes to evoke an almost 'not really playing' quality to the piece.

Looking forward to hearing if anyone takes this further.

You can't quite see it in the photo out the window, but there's a carpet of plum slate in my back garden ... Great sonic fodder for a little rhythmic experiment like this! It's a bit ASMR-y if you're into that sort of thing too ... Also, I guess because it's just rhythm, you might feel it's ripe for additional parts. It's downloadable (85 BPM) if that remix prospect takes your fancy 🤗❤️

Today things are obviously different, though I still thoroughly enjoy art, design, cinema and music in all its forms.
