Found deep in my mp3 crates, the first solo mix I ever did! This was a mix I did with mostly leftover records from the first mix I did with DJ Basic, Never Forgive Action 5. I happened to do this on Black Friday of 2008, so I entitled it the Thanksgiving Leftovers.

Ever since then, I've done some kind of mix and released it on Black Friday, so its become a little tradition of mine. It also cool to be able to see how much I progress from year to year, and of course, who wouldn't want some free music?

To jump start the series we have Dirt McGirt himself, Ol’ Dirty Bastard; who, by the way, will be portrayed by Michael Kenneth Williams, aka Omar from ‘The Wire’, in an upcoming biopic. We’ve combined ODB’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” with the deep funk grooves of  “Alligator Man”; courtesy of Japanese heavy funk outfit, Mocha Mountain Kilimanjaro. Custom made for those of you always on the lookout for rare grooves in the vein of the JBs.

What tribute to the golden era of hip hop would be complete without some straight up battle rhymes? To that end we’re shining this week’s spotlight on Roxanne Shante who was involved in two of the most memorable battles of all time: the Roxanne Wars and The Bridge Wars (Juice Crew vs. Boogie Down Productions). “Big Mama” is a non-stop barrage of dope punchlines aimed at rival female MCs - classic! We fused Shante’s irascible battle rhymes with the raw, heavy funk grooves of UK multi-instrumentalist and producer Adam Gibbons (aka Lack Of Afro). This joint will have your head nodding and fingers snapping. Enjoy!

Big ups to my brother Buddy Vladimir Decastro for teachin the kid the ropes.. I learned a lot about DJing just by working on this mix... We worked on this for like 4 straight days from 9pm to like 5am... Had to go to class and work the next day, then right back to recording... Damn the good ol days lol... But yo...
