Lekan Babalola is one of the most extraordinary percussionists in jazz and world music today.  He started his career playing in the Yoruba Christian Church owned by his father, Olayiwola Babalola. As his skills as a master percussionist grew, he was invited to join Gasperlawal in 1980. His career then continued with performances alongside the likes of Fela Kuti, Ernest Ranglin, Roy Ayers, Tony Allen, Branford Marsalis, Pinse Saul, Queen Salawa, Abeni, Axelle Red, Kllb Band, Bola Are, Jean Toussaint and Tessa Souter.
Songs Of Icon is a unique recording that draws its musical influences and inspiration from Santeria, an Afro-Cuban version of IFA. The album, released as a double CD, features remixes of most of the original songs by top names from the broken beat and leftfield scenes, opening up the originals to both world music and dance music fans. Remixers on this album include Bob Sinclair, Mark de Clive Lowe, Afronaut, Misa Negra, IG Culture and Le Pico.

Disc 1, titled 'Big Room', includes two exclusive new remixes by Holy Ghost! ('Blue Moon') and System Divine ('The Low Hum'), plus remixes by artists such as Paul van Dyk, Kleerup, Basto!, Arno Cost, and Sasha. 

Disc 2, named 'Small Room', features Yeasayer, Photek, Ben Hoo, and a new remix of the single "The Poison Tree" by longtime friend and collaborator David Lynch and the new 30 minute ambient track by Moby.

‘Waters Rising’ is a collaboration with vocalist Lola Empire and was originally written around a piano sketch that was sent back and forth between the two artists until it became the fully realised song you hear now.  

"I really hadn't expected love to be a theme in the album, but I was chatting with Lola and she told me how she'd fallen in love. I sent her the initial sketch for this and told her i didn't think love was an appropriate subject for it. but she came out with this. 
'love is dark' she said."

Next up on Eglo Records, we're pleased to announce the forthcoming LP release by Steve Spacek, 'Natural Sci-Fi' hits stores December 7th.

Natural Sci-Fi originally began production in 2005, shortly after the release of the now classic ‘Spaceshift’ album (which included the J-Dilla collaboration ‘Dollar’), but was never completed. Over the last few years Steve has added some tweaks and changes - including a new song and guests vocalists Oddisee and Natalie Slade - eventually finalising the project and readying it for its release in 2018. The album continues the post Spaceshift vibration of Steve’s signature production style and effortless vocal delivery. Swinging spaciously from past to present, packed with soul, sounding as fresh and relevant today as it did when it began back in 2005.

Since the albums inception Steve has released projects with Mark Pritchard as one half of Africa Hitech on Warp, an instrumental LP as Black Pocket for his brother D-Bridge’s Exit Records and a concept LP as Beat Spacek for Ninja Tune. Following a string of EP releases for Eglo over the last two years we are thrilled to finally be able to bring to you a full length release from one of the UK’s most unique and talented artists.
