Cannonball

Often when pursuing a love interest, there can be times of hot and cold behaviour or ‘love games’. Hide and Seek outlines the struggle of trying to understand why a new love interest can be interested one minute and not interested the next. It's metaphorically likened to the playground game ‘hide and seek’. The second verse has a French Christian prayer to the patron saint of lost things Saint Antoine, which asks to help find the love that has been lost.

‘The Bends’ is a song about lead singer George's Uncle, Nigel, who took his life after a long battle with stage 4 throat cancer. 

George Says: “I was struck when talking with him 2 weeks before his death as he was in a state of euphoria and had such clarity on his life after a difficult road, he seemed very peaceful. It really drove home to me that suicide is a decision made in a moment that cannot be taken back. I had empathy for his state of mind and although I wish he hadn't made the decision he did, I could understand it.”

Family Fiction is George McCanna, Dave Harding, Alex Cockburn and Jack Greenwood.

The band, based in Brighton, was formed in 2014 where they quickly became part of the Brighton music family ‘Folklore’. Described as a folk inspired ’transatlantic-indie’. Having gained early support from BBC introducing and Radio X , the band have enjoyed 4 self-released singles and a 5 track E.P available on all digital platforms and plan to release their debut album later this year.

With lyrics deeply rooted in an unconvinced upbringing, personal demons and holy fables can be extracted throughout.
